 Part 2a: Lesson Planning

       Week 4 presentation

                             1
Intro

                            Introduction:

  • Year 9 Mathematics
  • Trigonometry
 The “Pythagoras and trigonometry” part of the “Measurement and
Geometry” component of the Year 9 Australian Curriculum for Mathematics

  • Using trigonometry to find angles in
    right angled triangles and applying
trigonometry to solve abstract and real
world problems. Integrating ICT via the
    use of mathematics software and
    Wikis. 2
Specific objectives
Lesson 1:

At the conclusion of this lesson each student will be able to:
1.Calculate acute angles in right angle triangles from known side
lengths using trigonometric ratios
2.Appreciate the use of mathematical software as a learning and
problem solving tool
3.Understand a set of software related concepts, including:
 What are system requirements for a software program
 The advantages of web-based vs DVD installed software
 Why does software need a password and a user ID?

                                                                    3
Specific objectives
Lesson 2:

At the conclusion of this lesson each student will be able to:

1.Apply trigonometry to solve a range of right angle triangle
problems in mathematical and real-world situations
2.Set up a wiki and add content to the wiki

                                                                 4
Specific objectives
Lesson 3:

At the conclusion of this lesson each student will be able to:

1.Demonstrate their understanding of Year 9 trigonometry by
taking a web-based online assessment of the trigonometry work
done so far this year
2.Discern appropriate content for a project based wiki related to
real world uses of mathematics

                                                                    5
Specific objectives
Lesson 3:

At the conclusion of this lesson each student will be able to:

1.Demonstrate their understanding of Year 9 trigonometry by
taking a web-based online assessment of the trigonometry work
done so far this year
2.Discern appropriate content for a project based wiki related to
real world uses of mathematics

                                                                    5
