2011 HONOREE
WOLF BLITZER
Wolf Blitzer is CNN’s lead political anchor and the
anchor of The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer. He has
been with the network for more than 20 years.
During the 2008 presidential election, Blitzer spearhead-
ed CNN’s Peabody Award-winning coverage of the
presidential primary debates and campaigns. He also
anchored coverage surrounding all of the major political
events, including conventions, Election Night and the
inauguration of President Barack Obama.
In his career, Blitzer has reported on a wide range of
major breaking stories around the world that have shaped the international political
landscape. In December 2010, as tensions mounted between North and South Korea,
Blitzer was the only network journalist to travel to North Korea with then-New
Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson’s delegation.
Blitzer began his career in 1972 with Reuters in Tel Aviv. Shortly thereafter, he
became a Washington correspondent for The Jerusalem Post. After more than 15
years reporting from the nation's capital, Blitzer joined CNN in 1990 as the net-
work’s military-affairs correspondent at the Pentagon. He later served as CNN’s
senior White House correspondent, covering President Bill Clinton.
Among the numerous honors he has received, Blitzer received Emmy Awards for his
1996 coverage of the Oklahoma City bombing and coverage of Election Day 2006.
He was also awarded a George Foster Peabody award for Hurricane Katrina coverage;
an Alfred I. duPont Award for coverage of the tsunami disaster in Southeast Asia;
and an Edward R. Murrow Award for coverage of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
Blitzer is the author of two books, Between Washington and Jerusalem: A Reporter's
Notebook and Territory of Lies. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in history from the
State University of New York at Buffalo, a master of arts degree in international
relations from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International
Studies in Washington, D.C.

T his award honors news professionals in local or network news who work in
an off-air , management capacity. Through largely behind-the-scenes work,

SUSANA SCHULER
Susana Schuler is Vice President of News for Raycom
Media. She is responsible for oversight of the product,
people, ratings, research, content and community
involvement of its news operations. Schuler joined
Raycom Media in February 2006 to oversee its growing
group of news outlets.
In 2007, Schuler created the Raycom News Leadership
Program, an intensive, year-long project aimed at
retaining and retraining mid-level managers to prepare
them for higher management jobs. Forty-eight mid-
level managers from the company’s 31 news-producing
stations have participated in the program since 2007. From the first class of 12, six have
become Raycom Media news directors. In light of the success, the company has added
similar programs for producers and department heads aimed at training future executive
producers and general managers.
While in college, Schuler started as an associate producer for KXAS-TV in Fort Worth
and then became a reporter/photographer in Beaumont, TX. Next came jobs as
reporter, anchor, producer, assignment manager and eventually news director in
Wichita Falls, TX. She went on to Harrisburg, PA, as an assistant news director, health
reporter and anchor, then to Terre Haute, IN, as a news director. Before joining
Raycom Media, she was a Corporate Vice President of News for Nexstar Broadcasting.
She is a former RTNDA board member and serves on the Broadcast Advisory Board of
the Associated Press. She has been on advisory boards for the University of North
Texas, Ball State University and Eastern Illinois University. Schuler also volunteers for
the American Cancer Society, Race for the Cure and the American Red Cross. In
2002, Broadcasting & Cable named Schuler one of the “Next Wave of Women in
Communications” to watch. She is a graduate of Texas Christian University where she
studied Broadcast Journalism and Business.

20. ANNIVERSARY
TRIBUTE TO
9•11 JOURNALISTS
As we approach the tenth anniversary of the terrorist
attacks of September 11, 2001, the Radio Television
Digital News Foundation pauses to honor the journal-
ists who covered the attacks and their aftermath,
honoring their courage to serve the people’s right to
know, despite great personal risk. Through the
actions of those journalists, the people of America
were able to follow the events as they happened and
stay informed so that they could remain safe, find out
about the wellbeing of loved ones, and follow the
government’s reaction to the crisis. These journalists
were there to provide the information essential to keep
Americans connected to the crisis.
