the rise and fall of unrelated High
Cultures. These Cultures are in reality
super life-forms, that is, they are organic
in nature, and like all organisms must
pass through the phases of birth-life-
death. Though separate entities in
themselves, all High Cultures experience
parallel development, and events and
phases in any one find their
corresponding events and phases in the
others. It is possible from the vantage
point of the twentieth century to glean
from the past the meaning of cyclic
history, and thus to predict the decline
and fall of the West.
