BUILDINGCONSTRUCTION1ARC1523 PROJECT1:DOCUMENTATIONANDANALYSIS PREPAREDBY:FAWWAZSUKIMAN(0311561) 18 Typesofbeams: Therearetwotypesofbeamsandtheyareprecastbeam andpre-stressedbeam. Asforprecastbeams,itcontainsnormalconcretewiththickeningagentsadded. Workerswillpourtheconcreteintoabeam andthenallowittocure.Thenthey removethebeam from themoldandshipittodistributioncentersandconstruction sites.Thispre-castingmethodallowsmanufacturestocreateconcretebeamsforavariety ofprojects,butitismostusefulwhentheprojectrequiresmanybeamsofthesameshapeandsize.ofprojects,butitismostusefulwhentheprojectrequiresmanybeamsofthesameshapeandsize. Otherthanprecastbeams,thereispre-stressedbeam.Theyaremadeoutofconcretetoobutithasbeenaddedwithoneimportantingredient. Manufacturestakeanetofstrongsteelwiresandstringthem alongthemoldwheretheworkerwillpourtheconcrete.Workerswilluseamachinery tostretchthesteelwiresuntiltheyareunderstressed,thenpourtheconcreteinthemold.Thetightenedsteelwiresaddextrastrengthandstabilitytothe concrete,andtheyrunparallelwiththebeam,providinggreaterverticalsupport. 5.1BEAMSANDCOLUMNS
