relevant for a role

Why the fuss about resume
3. 3
• The only AIM of this document is to learn and internalize how to write resume content
– Understand how each element on your resume needs to be crafted
– Learn to write in crisp detail bringing out the richness of your experience and your key
expertise/skills
• Do not compare the format that is used to explain these examples or semantics like
the name of the section
– All format and structure (section heading [Is it internship, SIP, CIP | PoR versus Leadership|
PoR being part of ECA], way company-designation- timelines are denoted and other such
things) related information is based on the resume format that has been shared or enforced
using a system
– Do not refer to this document for matters in the above bullet

Some ground rules
• Uniform format for entire batch – Resume is not proof of your creativity, stick to the format given
• One page strictly for the final resume – master CV should be longer. You can have 2/3 versions of
your CV taken out from master CV.
– UNDERSTAND that versions need different content – hence master CV can be longer than 1 page
• Only one level of bullet – do not use sub bullets. Keep bullets as per format (no fancy bullets)
• Strictly NO pronouns - in resume like I, me, my, mine, our, us, we, you, he, she, they, them, their, etc.
• Drop all articles – a, an, the can be left out in resume writing. Helps shorten sentences
• Use action/power verbs to start all bullet points – Conducted, Designed, Organized, Created,
Recommended, Proposed, Concluded, etc. Avoid repeats. Refer to power verbs pdf shared
• Use symbols – ‘>’ ‘<‘ ‘~’ ’&’ ‘$’ ‘₹’ to keep sentences tight and short
• Keep the writing tight & lean – remove all unwanted information and words to convey maximum
information in the least number of words. However, concise doesn’t mean unclear
• Focus on content – Use the format approved by your college
Bear these in mind – READ EACH POINT CAREFULLY THRICE

Profile Highlights – ONLY if your format allows this section
3 short phrases
Your outstanding
achievements
No behaviors
• 3 short phrases (3-4 words per phrase) to bring out your USP. Limit total length to 1 line max
• NO BEHAVIORAL TRAITS: Don’t say hardworking, creative, friendly, team player etc
• Achievements can be of any nature (extra curriculars are also fine)
• Do not write in great detail or in long sentences
• The idea is to tell 3 top things about you which is ATTRACTIVE TO THE JOB YOU ARE APPLYING FOR
AND WILL SET YOU APART FROM THE OTHER APPLICANTS

points in work experience description
• DO NOT write project wise
• Don’t write JD points – this is a CV not a JD. You must write what you actually in your job. Be specific
• Awards should be followed by specific achievement that led to the award. Stand alone awards don’t make sense

frameworks, data etc.
• Last few bullets should be Result
– What are the outcomes, findings, recommendations, projections, results and potential uses of the project
– Worst case include learnings from the project
Recruiter wants to know more about your activities and achievements and not the academic description of the
project. Long sentences about project title, name, description should be avoided
