Traditional recipe Greek salad (horiatiki)ICTLab.Edu.Gr
This document provides a recipe for a traditional Greek salad called "Horiátiki salata". The salad includes tomatoes, cucumber, green bell pepper, red onion, Greek olives, and feta cheese. The vegetables are cut into bite-sized pieces and tossed with Greek olive oil, red wine vinegar, and dried oregano. The feta cheese is placed on top and also dressed with olive oil and oregano. The salad can accompany a main meal or be enjoyed as the main dish itself. It is best prepared and served immediately to avoid sogginess.
The document discusses the benefits of exercise for both physical and mental health. Regular exercise can improve cardiovascular health, reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety, enhance mood, and boost brain function. Staying physically active helps fight diseases and conditions, increases energy levels, and promotes better quality of life.
An egg, duck, rooster, needle, crab, horse, and ox find an empty house in the woods to spend the night. When the 12 wolves who own the house return, the bravest wolf decides to investigate the strange smells inside. However, each time he tries to search an area, one of the animals hiding there surprises and frightens him - the egg in the ashes, crab in the tub, needle in the towel, and finally the horse and ox. Terrified, the wolf flees and warns the other wolves not to enter, claiming the house is filled with dangerous devils.
Sirni Zagovezni, also known as Shrove Sunday, was a beloved winter holiday that marked the beginning of Lent. It always fell seven weeks before Easter. People would gather juniper branches and have big bonfires where they would play, dance, sing songs, and have fun until late into the night. My grandfather fondly remembers this custom from his childhood as one of his most valuable memories. It was an important tradition where the community could socialize and the children could play before the fasting period of Lent began.

Giufà is a character from Italian folklore who is usually seen as the village fool but often provides moral messages through his actions and words. Stories about Giufà have been orally passed down through centuries and feature him doing outrageous things whose purpose is to judge the reactions of others in the village rather than Giufà's behavior itself. This character is thought to have originated from stories about Nasrudin Hedjia, a Turkish folk character, that were absorbed into Sicilian culture during Islamic rule and transformed to represent cultural norms before spreading throughout southern Italy. The document discusses two short stories illustrated by pupils: Giufà and the hen, and Giufà takes away the door.
The legend of Barcelos Cock tells the story of a man from Galicia, Spain who was wrongly accused of a crime in Barcelos, Portugal. Despite protesting his innocence, he was condemned to be hanged. Before his execution, he asked to see the judge and pointed to a roast cock, saying it would crow if he was innocent. Though met with laughter, the cock stood up and crowed when the man was hanged. The judge then released the man, who later returned and built a monument in Barcelos.
