Urban design operates at an intermediate scale between architecture and urban planning. It focuses on the spaces between buildings and how they are used and experienced by people. 3. Good urban design creates places that are socially and economically successful by carefully designing urban environments and spaces to reduce crime and support better access to public services.

Each Student is asked to search for two open spaces inside your city.
- One example represents a successful open space regarding the good
urban design consideration.
- The second one represents a bad open space regarding the neglect of
urban design consideration.
You need to perform a simple analysis for the two open spaces identifying the
reasons why one space is more successful than the other one
• You need to use pictures to clarify your analysis.
• Only two power point slides are required.
• A sample of students’ work will be presented next class.
• The submission on a link on blackboard
