2. MANUFACTURE & COSTING
inDUSTer manufacturing
AIM
The aim of inDUSTer is to allow consumers with little or no DIY skills to easily drill a hole into a wall,
which can be seen as a daunting task if you have no previous experience. The mirror on the back
plate reflects the drill bit in the drill; all the user has to do is line up the real and reflected bits to
make the drill perpendicular. inDUSTer also includes a dust collector beneth the drill hole, meaning
that furniture and fixtures do not have to be moved or cleaned to complete the DIY work. The back
of the product features a rubber grip pad to provide friction between the product and the wall.
MATERIALS AND MANUFACTURE
ABS will be used for the main body of inDUSTer, chosen for its ease of moulding, strength, impact
resistance and low weight. The logos on the front are screen printed on to a body that complements
the company’s logo, making it more visually striking that the customer will see it in shop.
The extruded mirror is made of a reflective acrylic, to avoid the expense, fragility and cost of using
glass. The rubber pad is made from natural rubber sheeting, manufactured using the calendaring
and die cutting processes
