In a May 9, 2024 paper, Juri Opitz from the University of Zurich, along with Shira Wein and Nathan Schneider form Georgetown University, discussed the importance of linguistic expertise in natural language processing (NLP) in an era dominated by large language models (LLMs).
The authors explained that while machine translation (MT) previously relied heavily on linguists, the landscape has shifted. “Linguistics is no longer front and center in the way we build NLP systems,” they said. With the emergence of LLMs, which can generate fluent text without the need for specialized modules to handle grammar or semantic coherence, the need for linguistic expertise in NLP is being questioned.

Breach of Covid protocol will only hasten the

The high court issued

It further said the memory of the second wave
of COVID-19 is still fresh with so many people
having suffered personal loss
“Such breach will only hasten the third wave,

Akhilesh comment on GDP gets a nudge from BJP
First India Bureau
Lucknow : Broadsiding
Samajwadi Party Presi-
dent Akhilesh Yadav for
what he dubbed as ‘na-
ive’ comments on the
GDP of Uttar Pradesh,
the spokesman of state
government and senior
UP Minister Siddharth
Nath Singh said that his
‘false’ narrative was fig-
ment of his imagina-
tion away from the ac-
tual figures. “ The State
GrossDomesticProduct
(SGDP) of Uttar
Pradesh stood at Rs
1288700 crore when Yogi
Adityanath took over
the reins of UP which
grew rapidly to Rs
1705593 crore in 2020-
2021 which accounts for
8.7 percent of the coun-
tries GDP and second
only to Maharashtra, an
achievement consider-
ing that the Yogi-led
government had inher-
ited from SP govern-
ment what was a tale of
depravity,’’ he said in a
repartee on Friday.
He said not only this,
the per capita income in
UP also rose significant-
ly in the last over four
years despite the handi-
cap of the pandemic
which impacted econo-
mies globally. Singh
said that the economy
of the state rocketed to
new heights under CM
Yogi as the investment
in the state since 2017
had been a testimony of
the fact that proactive
measures of the state
government brought in
rich dividends.
“The UP Investor
Summit in 2018 had
MoUs of about 4.68

which about 2 lakh
crore worth MoUs
have already come on
the grounds,’’ said the
UP MSME minister
while adding “ I m sur-

neutralising the Del-
hi Police’s attempt to
delay the release of
Pinjada Tod activists
Natasha Narwal and Devangana
Kalita and Jamia student Asif
Iqbal Tanha, the three jubilant
detainees walked free out of
Tihar after a year’s incarcera-
tion. The High Court’s directive
to the trial court to decide the
detainees’ issue promptly and
“expeditiously” prevented the
police attempt to keep them in
custody on the pretext of verify-
ing their addresses and Aadhar
cards. Fortunately for the activ-
ists, the Supreme Court refused
to entertain the Delhi Police re-
quest to cancel their bail. That
ensured the activists’ freedom
was not short-lived.
The focus will now be on the
stringent UAPA and what con-
stitutes a terrorist act, which
has been used to crush even
democratic dissent against the
government. The Supreme
Court has said that the present
case won’t be treated as a prec-
edent after it was informed that
many accused were applying for
bail after this order.
W
udyard Kipling,
the first English-
language writer
to win a Nobel in
literature and
Enid Blyton, the famous chil-
dren’s writer, have been cen-
sured as being racists and
xenophobic by a charity, the
English Heritage. The chari-
ty which manages historical
places also criticised Bly-
ton’s work for lacking liter-
ary merit. This is not the first
time that the two celebrated
writers have been flagged for
the imperialist, xenophobic
and racist content in their
writings. In 2018 Manchester
University students defaced
a mural featuring Kipling’s
controversial poem The
White Man’s Burden which
portrays the British as “a
civilizing force”. It has been
branded as imperialist. In
the case of Enid Blyton, liter-
ary critics and teachers
found her work controversial
from the 1950s onwards. The
BBC refused to broadcast her
work from 1930-50 and some
libraries even banned her
books. Among her works The
Little Black Doll is particu-
larly cited as being racist. In
the case of Blyton she has
been dubbed sexist and xeno-
phobic. But both belonged to
a different era. Blyton wrote
over 700 books, and 4,500
short stories. Blyton’s books
have sold 600 million copies,
more than JK Rowling of
Harry Potter fame.
But for millions of millen-
nials who grew up reading
Rudyard Kipling’s unforget-
table Jungle Book and Kid-
nappedEnidBlyton’sFamous
Five and Secret Seven series
theEnglishHeritagecharity’s
action against their favourite
writers is a blow which they
will find hard to reconcile
with. Kipling may not be that
popular in this part of the
world any more but who can

tive Bagheera, the adorable

tral character Mowgli?
CENSURING BLYTON,
KIPLING YET AGAIN
Kipling may not be that

can escape the charm of

the adorable Baloo and
Jungle Book’s central
character Mowgli?
R
he government of the crick-
et-turned politician, Imran
Khan, known as a ‘hybrid’
administration of the civil-
military authorities, is pre-
paring to ‘strangulate’ media
freedom further in Pakistan,
where army’s intelligence
outfit, Intra-Services Intelli-
gence (ISI) either kills the
scribes or beats them if they
do not adhere to its diktat.
Khan is not only perturbed
thattheoppositionpartiesare
getting adequate coverage,
but this time the army gener-
als and ISI are worried of the
exposure of their rampant
corruption, siphoning off ill-
gotten money and indulging
in extra-marital affairs.
It has all begun with the
exposure of the ISI chief Gen-
eral Faiz Hameed. His wife
had opened fire at him, when
he was found with a call girl.
Hameed had to escape naked
and later, he was treated at a
hospital; under a false narra-
tive that he was being at-
tacked some enemy agent.
The truth, however, was re-
cently revealed by none other,
but Hamid Mir, a well-known
journalist and anchor.
Hamid Mir was reacting to
the recent assault on a senior
journalist, Asad Toor, who
was assaulted at his resi-
dence in Islamabad, who had
identified themselves as ISI
agents. Instead of arresting
them, though the security
camera footage of the assail-
ants was available, it was
stated that the journalist
was beaten up by the bothers
or relatives of his wife. Dis-
traught by this ‘deliberate
inaction’, Hamid Mir stated
that if the “repression” and
murder of journalists con-
tinue, “We would not hesi-
tate to reveal the generals
private life”. He further chal-
lenged that the ‘corrupt in
the army’ that if they have
weapons, we would be forced
to “expose their misdeeds,
their extra-marital affairs or
details of the new ‘general
ranis’. He even called the for-
mer dictator, General Mush-
rraf, who had escaped from
Pakistan like a ‘rat’. He fur-
ther asked that the army and
the government should also
explain that ‘who is funding
him for his lavish lifestyle in
Dubai.
The army is already in a
defensive gear following the
allegations of the former
three-time Prime Minister,
Newaz Sharif, that army is
responsible for the most of
the ills in the country. Its of-
ficers had rigged the 2018
polls, and the people of the
country have been suffering
due to the mismanagement
of the Khan government.
Amidst these develop-
ments, Hamid Mir’s remind-
er of Yahia Khan’s lavish
lifestyle and about his pretty
mistress ‘general rani’ has
alarmed the army establish-
ment. They are apprehensive
that if the disclosure about
th contemporary generals is
allowed, the armed forces
would lose their influence on
the people. It appears to be
the reason that the Khan gov-
ernment is going to impose
stiff regulations on media.
Meanwhile, the ISI proxies in
media are demanding his ar-
rest as well as prosecution
under the sedition law.
Interestingly, none has
asked for a thorough enquiry
into the killings and harass-
ments of journalists. There
is a long list of journalists,
who were physically assault-
ed and even killed by the ISI.
The prominent journalists
include Saleem Shahzad,
whose body was found “en-
tangled” in the Upper Jhe-
lum canal, but none ahs so
far been arrested. Many
journalists such as Raza
Rumi barely escaped an at-
tack, and Ayesha Siddiqa,
Taha Siddiqui and Gul
Bukhari, now mostly live
outside Pakisitan. In April
2014, Hamid Mir too had es-
caped death, when some un-
known gunmen fired at him
in Karachi. The culprits
were never found.
The media curbs are being
clamped down following the
disclosures about Yahia
Khan’s private life, and the
threat that journalists might
expose even the present day
generals and their nefarious
activities. Khan’s intimacy
with Akleem Akhtar, a pretty
woman lovingly called ‘gen-
eral rani’, who was consid-
ered most powerful woman
during his tenure, is already
well-known. Similarly, the
sex-pursuits of his predeces-
sor, Ayub Khan, the first mil-
itary dictator, are well-
known. The Indian author,
Khushwant Singh called him,
‘a flamboyant dictator’, who
frequently travelled to Lon-
don in quest of pleasures. He
was often the guest at the
Clivedon Estate, a favourite
destination of top politicians,
diplomats and pretty models.
The girls, who frequented the
swimming pool, were allowed
to swim, but they had to be in
the nude. It pleased the
guests, who were rich and
powerful. Among them,
Christine Keeler, one of the
most beautiful sexy models
of London, was a favourite of
Ayub. She was not averse to
sex with anybody. It lured
Ayub to frequently visit Lon-
don. It is stated that she too
was impressed by the tall and
heavily built officer. Many
recall a picture of Ayub in the
bathing pool carrying bikini-
clad Christine Keeler on his
shoulders.
With the mushrooming of
social media sites, the gov-
ernment finds that the ISI
goons might not be able to
subjugate media. Therefore,
it is focusing on the new dra-
conian ordinance to curb me-
dia activities even on the so-
cial media sites such as YOU-
TUBE, FACEBOOK or Twit-
ter. The new regulations en-
visage that even to setup a
news video channel a scribe
has to cough up a huge fee for
obtaining a license, and if he
dared to violate the guide-
lines, he might face jail-term
and huge fines or both.
The ISI was meant for col-
lective sensitive information
in the foreign countries, but it
is now being increasingly
used in domestic politics.
During the tenure of Ayub,
who had deployed ISI against
Fatima Jinnah, the sister of
Muhammed Ali Jinnah, be-
cause she had challenged
Ayub in the poll, which was
an attempt to legitimatize his
military dictatorship. Fatima
is fondly remembered as
Madre-Millat, but ISI had de-
clared her an Indian agent,
anti-Islam and a traitor, and
was allowed to die in isolation
that too without any care.

New Delhi: An IT system is being developed by the
Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to
assist schools in the preparation of Class 12 results,
after this year’s board exams were cancelled due to
the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. While a ‘Policy for
Tabulation of Marks for Class-XII Board Examina-
tions 2021’ has already been issued, the new system
aims to ease calculation work, reduce time and ad-
dress other hassles. “This system will also pre-pop-
ulate marks of Class X of the students passed from
CBSE. Efforts will also be made to take other Boards’
class X results data,” an official statement said.
Srinagar: PM Narendra Modi has likely called an
all-party meeting on Jammu and Kashmir next
week, sources say amid re-
ports that the Centre may dis-
cuss restoration of statehood
and other important issues
concerning the union territory.
This is the PM’s first major
outreach to end the political
impasse over the scrapping of
Article 370 in 2019. “We have
been intimated about a meet-
ing next week. We are waiting for a formal invita-
tion,” a senior JK leader said.
New Delhi: Kanta Prasad, 81, the owner of Baba
ka Dhaba, a nondescript roadside eatery in south
Delhi’s Malviya Nagar, was
admitted to the Safdarjung Hos-
pital on Thursday after he con-
sumed alcohol and anti-anxiety
pills. According to the police, it
is unclear if Prasad accidentally
overdosed or whether he tried
to take his life. Prasad’s family
said the octogenarian was in
“depression” and “under pressure” because of some
people and the recent turmoil in his life.
New Delhi: The Congress attacked the govern-
ment over reports of an increase in Swiss bank
deposits by Indians by 286 percent in 2020 —
the highest in the last 13 years — and asked
the government how much black money has
been brought back and from which country in
the last 7 years? The Congress demanded that
the Modi government should share the names
of individuals who have moved the money to
Swiss banks in the last one year.
New Delhi: Centre has notified appointment of
6 judicial officers as judges of MP High Court
and one judicial officer as a Gauhati HC addi-
tional judge. Judicial Officers, Anil Verma, Arun
Sharma, Satyendra Singh, Sunita Yadav, Deepak
Agarwal and Rajendra Kumar (Verma) have
been appointed as Judges of MP HC, with effect
from the day on which they assume charge. Ju-
dicial Officer Robin Phukan has been appointed
an additional Judge of Gauhati HC for 2 yrs.
New Delhi: The Election Commission (EC) has
brought out an atlas on the 2019 Lok Sabha
polls which carries all the data and statistical
figures of the massive electoral exercise. The
atlas, which has 42 thematic maps and 90
tables depicting various facets of the election,
was released on June 15 by Chief Election
Commissioner Sushil Chandra and EC Rajiv
Kumar and Anup Chandra.

.
Describing the new
Parliament building as
a “necessity”, he said
though the construc-
tion is running 16 days
behind schedule, it will
be completed by Octo-
ber 2022.
“We were (initially)
27 days ahead of sched-
ule. But after the out-
break of the COVID-19
pandemic (second
wave), the construction
is now 16 days behind
schedule,” Birla said.
To questions on con-
struction of a new par-
liament house at a press
conference here, the
Lok Sabha speaker said
the existing building
cannot be expanded and
does not cater to the
needs of changing
times.
“The existing build-
ing is a historical one.
Many historic deci-
sions were taken in this
building. But it cannot
be expanded further
and therefore a new
building is a necessity,”
he said.
About MPs from op-
position parties oppos-
ing the project, Birla
said it was both the Lok

which had requested
the new building. —PTI

WHO: Delta variant to

Gwalior: Union Agri-

dra Singh Tomar on
Friday said the govern-
ment was ready to talk
to the agitating farmers
“even if they come at
midnight”, but not
about their demand to
repeal the three new
laws which are the bone
of contention.
Thousands of farm-
ers are camping on Del-
hi’s borders since last
November, seeking
withdrawal of the new
agriculture laws.
The government is
always ready to talk to
any farmers’ union, I
will welcome them even
if they come at mid-
night,” the Union minis-
ter told reporters here.
The government is
ready for talks anytime
but not on the repeal of

gress,” he said, adding
that it can not restore
the article’s provisions.
Geneva: World Health

Chief Scientist Soumya
Swaminathan on Fri-
day said that the Delta
variant is “well on its
way” to becoming the
dominant variant glob-
ally because of its sig-
nificantly increased
transmissibility
.
Speaking at the me-

said “We need more
data, again from well
designed studies on the
efficacy of the different
vaccines that are in use
in different countries
against the different
variants. So what this
means is that there has
to be in place, a study
that uses a good de-
sign.” WHO Chief Sci-
entist also expressed
disappointment at the
failure of German com-
pany CureVac’s vac-
cine candidate in a trial
to meet the WHO’s ef-
ficacy standard, par-
ticularly as highly

the maintenance, edu-

children who lost par-

Keeping in view the
need of the children,
he CM Yogi Adityanath
on Friday announced a
monthly pension of Rs
4,000 under the Mukhy-
amantri Bal Seva Yo-
jana. “The state gov-
ernment will give Rs
4,000 per month to chil-
dren who lost their par-
ents, till they turn 18
under Mukhyamantri
Bal Seva Yojana,” the
CM said. Giving the
statistics of such chil-
dren in Gorakhpur, he
said, “There are six
children in Gorakhpur
who lost one of their
parents due to COV-
ID-19 and others to
some illness earlier. At
least 174 children have
lost bread-earner of
the family.” The state
government has also
arranged for the educa-
tion of such children
under various
schemes.
For those children
who are above 18
years of age, and are
presently enrolled
for higher education
in technical courses,
the state government
will be providing
them a tablet along
with free education,
the CM informed. He
directed officers of
Child Development
and Nutrition De-
partment to provide
benefits of State gov-
ernment schemes to
such children and ex-
pressed condolences
to all the orphaned
children on behalf of
State Government
and assured that they
would not be allowed
to face any kind of
trouble.
The Chief Minister
reached the Asian
Shelter Home on Jail
Road and met orphan
children between 1
year and 10 years age
group and gave them
fruits and clothes.
On the occasion, chil-
dren also recited
Gayatri Mantra be-
fore him. The Chief
Minister said that in
the fight against Co-
rona, under the guid-
ance of Prime Minis-
ter Narendra Modi,
relief works like
‘Pradhan Mantri
Garib Kalyan Ann

conducted in the
country. Free food
grains were being
provided every
month to about 15
crore people in the
state under the ‘Prad-

na’, he said.
Activists’ bail...

es to the activists and
stressed that the High
Court order could not,
in the meantime, be
used as precedent for
other cases.
Narwal, Kalita and
Tanha walked out of
Delhi’s Tihar Jail last
night, two days after
the High Court high-
lighted the distinction
between the “right to
protest” and terrorist
activity, and granted
bail.
Their release had been
opposed by Delhi Po-
lice, which said the
High Court, in permit-
ting bail, had “con-
ducted a mini-trial...
(and) recorded per-
verse findings which
are contrary to the re-
cord”.
At Friday’s hearing
Delhi Police asked the
Supreme Court to “stay
the (High Court) order
because (it) virtually
records the acquittal
of the accused” and
others would seek bail
using this as prece-
dent.
“53 died and many
were police officers...
700 were injured. The
court says riots were
controlled so UAPA is
not applicable... How
can the intensity of the
offence be diluted?”
Delhi Police asked.
“(Delhi) High Court
watered down UAPA
(and) it had been
turned upside down,”
Delhi Police claimed.
The top court ac-
knowledged that dis-
cussing all laws in a
bail hearing was
“something very sur-
prising”, and said:
“We agree. There are
many questions that
arise. The issue is im-
portant and can have
pan-India ramifica-
tions. We would like
to issue notice and
hear the other side.”
However, the court
also noted that bail
had, in fact, been
granted.
“They (the activists)
will not be affected,
but we will stay the ef-
fect of the High Court
order,” it said.

EXPOSE OPPN FOR CONSPIRING
AGAINST VAX: NADDA TO BJP
‘Opposition derailing steps taken by Centre to defeat Covid-19’
New Delhi: BJP chief
JP Nadda on Friday ad-
dressed party’s Mem-
bers of Parliament and
party workers and
urged them to expose
the opposition’s plan to
derail attempts to con-
tain COVID-19 in the
country
.
While lauding the
work done under the
leadership of PM Modi
to fight the pandemic,
Nadda lashed out at the
opposition for derailing
steps taken by the Cen-
tre to defeat COVID-19.
“A big conspiracy was
hatched against vacci-
nation drive and war
over pandemic. The op-
position played politics.
Why lockdown? Why no
lockdown? Now the is-
sue of calf serum in
vaccine and suspicion
on the vaccine,” he said.
He also targeted opposi-
tion leaders for trying to
derail the vaccination
process. “On vaccina-
tion, Mamata Banerjee
Arvind Kejriwal said
they want to buy vac-
cines themselves. PM
Modi decentralised it.
However, it was central-
ised again after the fail-
ure of states. People
need to be told that we
were serving people
whereas opposition was
derailing the process,”
said Nadda. Giving vac-
cines is the Centre’s
task whereas to waste
vaccines was the state’s
task. They dumped the
vaccine, he alleged.
“Manish Tewari and
Shashi Tharoor pro-
moted hesitancy and
said we aren’t rats and
guinea pigs. Society
was made to fear the
vaccination process,”
stated Nadda.

AIIMS-WHO study suggests positive
seroprevalence; similar in kids adults
New Delhi: AIIMS
Delhi Director Dr Ran-
deep Guleria on Friday
said that the outcome of
the joint survey by the
World Health Organiza-
tion-AIIMS, which
found out that COV-
ID-19 seroprevalence
was 55.7 per cent and
63.5 per cent in the age
group below 18 and
above respectively, is
“positive”. However, he
has pointed out the
need for a larger nation-
wide sample size for
comprehensive results.
“The outcome of the
survey is positive. It is
very reassuring that if
it is happening here, it
will also happen in oth-
er parts of the country
,”
Dr Guleria said. The
study has underlined
that there was no statis-
tically significant differ-
ence in prevalence be-
tween adult children.
Dr Guleria said,
“This study also looked
at sero surveillance
among children who
did not know that they
have been infected. In
less than 18 years of age
group, it was found that
more than 50 per cent of
children and, in some
areas, more than 80 per
cent of children from
both urban and rural
areas had antibodies,
This means they were
already infected and de-
veloped antibodies.”

Rahul Gandhi flays Modi

New Delhi: Amid ris-
ing fuel prices in the

er Rahul Gandhi on Fri-
day took a dig at PM
Narendra Modi-led
Central government’s
‘Sabka Sath, Sabka Vi-
kas’ slogan stating that
the condition of ‘Vikas’
is such that if there is
no increase in fuel price

comes a bigger news.
“Such is the condi-
tion of Modi govern-
ment’s vikas (develop-
ment) that if the price
of petrol and diesel
does not increase any
day, then it becomes a
bigger news!” said the
Congress MP in a tweet.
Prices of petrol and
diesel in the national

at Rs 96.93 per litre and
Rs 87.69 per litre respec-
tively. Petrol and diesel

BJP ‘shivers’ off Bengal
defeat in Tripura!
Aditi Nagar
New Delhi: After tast-
ing defeat at the hands
of a ‘firebrand’ Mamata
Banerjee, it seems that
the BJP has started hav-
ing nightmares about
Trinamool Congress in
distant Tripura as well!
Bengal is abuzz that
25 MLAs of the BJP are
in touch with Didi. The
‘belief’ stems from the
fact that when recently
Subhendu Adhikari, as
the leader of the legisla-
tive group, called on the
Governor, he was ac-
companied by merely 50
MLAs while the re-
maining 25 chose to
stay away. It was right
after this that the word
spread about the re-
maining 25 men joining
the BJP.
Since the Governor
also left for New Delhi,
right after this meet,
people have now started
joining the dots.
Meanwhile, a similar
‘threat’ is being feared
by BJP in Tripura.
When Mukul Roy was
in the TMC, he had got
six Congress MLAs join
TMC and when he
jumped into BJP
, the six
men followed him and
are now MLAs from
BJP. Among these is a
firebrand leader Su-
deep Roy Burman who
is reportedly close to
Mukul Roy. Burman is
now leading the MLAs
who are disgruntled
with Tripura CM Bi-
plab Deb and he had
even rushed to New
Delhi in support of
these nine MLAs.
It is now believed that
Mukul Roy is once
again in touch with
Burman and this could
lead to a ‘turn around’
in the state.
The sixty member
Tripura Assembly has
36 MLAs of BJP and al-
though the BJP has
nothing to worry about
right now, it will cer-
tainly have to be careful
since the tables could
turn any moment.
It is because of this
that the BJP’s General
secretary (Organisa-
tion) BL Santosh and
Organisation secretary
for North-eastern states
Ajay Jamwal reached
Tripura on Wednesday
.
It is said that they
have reached to assess
the party’s situation on
ground, however, the
murmur is that their
real mission is to assess
chances of rebellion.
‘Turncoat Roy’ a part of Didi’s ‘Mission Bengal’?
First India Bureau
Kolkata: It seems that
TMC turncoat Mukul
Roy, is yet again going
to be termed as ‘turn-
coat’ but this time of
the BJP’s.
Three years back he
had snubbd TMC and
joined BJP after resign-
ing from the Rajya Sab-
ha. While the BJP did
not send him to RS, he
was fielded, along with
his son, in Bengal As-
sembly election and
where the father tasted
victory but the son did
not.
Now that both father-
son duo have returned
to TMC, word is rife
that Mamata will once
again send Mukul to
Upper House.
There are two seats
vacant in the Upper
House from West Ben-
gal and it is believed
that Roy will be given
one seat. Then there is
another garpevine,
which claims that once
Mukul Roy resigns as
MLA, his son will be
fielded from the con-
stituency to contest and
after winning the same,
he will be inducted in
Mamata government as
Minister of State.
It is due to these
‘claims’ by people of
West Bengal that local
BJP leaders are term-
ing Mukul’s entry into
BJP under an overall
agenda of Mamata
from where he was pro-
viding help to Didi.
Furthermore, it is also
being said that Roy
saved himself from
many legal worries by
entering BJP, and once
the worries are over,
he has now returned to
Didi.

AKHILESH’S
KRISHNA BHAKTI
IN SP’S CAMPAIGN
VIDEO
Known as devout of Lord
Krishna the SP chief
Akhilesh Yadav has introduced
the Lord in his election
campaign video which is
likely to be released soon. The
video begins with “ Murlidhari
Krishna badal kar vesh aarahe
hain…..Akhilesh Aarahe hain….
Akhilesh Aarahe hai. ( Flute
carrying Krishna is coming in
a different garb… Akhilesh is
coming… Akhilesh is coming).
Thus goes the line saying Yadav
would remove the prevailing
darkness in the state. The SP
is busy in preparation for the
2022 assembly election and the
video is part of the campaign
which would blare from atop
of his “Rath”. The video, while
dwelling on the achievements
of previous SP government
(2012-2017) is curiously silent
on the performance of the Yogi
government. It only says that
Yadav is committed to remove
the present darkness in the
state. Akhilesh, whose devotion
for Lord Krishna is well known,
had installed a 55 feet high
copper idol of the deity in
his village Safai last year.
The campaign song has been
composed by Rajkumar Bhati
and singer Muni Raman has
given his voice. The video has
been uploaded on the official
website of the Samajwadi Party,
which is aimed at enthusing the
party cadre.

MAN WORKED

Deception of the highest
kind has come to the fore
in the police department after
it was found that the brother
of an inspector’s wife was
reporting to duty instead of
his brother-in-law for the last
5 years. The case caught the
top-officials off-guard as they
are bewildered as to how a
person while impersonating his
brother-in-law was able to work
for such a long time. Sunil alias
Sunny was reporting to work in
place of constable Anil Kumar
who was posted on vehicle
number 0281 of PRV in city of
Thakurdwara. The accused has
been reporting to duty on 112
PRV for almost five years. The
police department has now
started an investigation on
the case and has arrested the
brother-in-law of Sunil while a
manhunt has been laughed to
nab Sunil who is absconding.
ASP Anil Kumar Yadav said
that investigation is on and
cases under serious sections
will be filed against the
accused. An unofficial report
has indicated that Sunil who
is a resident on Muzaffarnagar
joined the police department
in place of his brother-in-
law who after getting a job
in education department did
resign from his job in the
police department before
joining his new job. The
information about the case
is yet to be released by the
police as investigation are in
the beginning stage. What is
surprising is how a person
was able to impersonate
another person for such a
long time and how no was
able to catch the fraud.

on the horizon for
the project.
The Bhoomi Pu-
jan for the temple
was conducted on
August 5, 2020 by
the Prime Minis-
ter Narendra
Modi and it has
taken more
than 5 months
to finalize the
design of the
f o u n d a t i o n
due to the
t i m e - c o n -
s u m i n g
p r o -
cess of landfilling.
This is the reason
that it could be said
that the actual con-
struction of the
temple began
on January
15th of this
year. Even after
all the delays,
the Shri
Ram Jan-
m a b -
hoomi
Teerth Kshetra Trust
claims that the con-
struction of the tem-
ple will be completed
within the stipulated
time.
The construction
process for the Ram
temple began by dig-
ging up land up to
hundred feet long,
three hundred wide
and 50 meters deep to
lay the foundation of
the temple which
took 2 months to be
completed. Once the
land was dug up, fill-
ing of the foundation
began and the inten-
sity of the work in-
creased along
with pro-
gress in
c o n -
struction. A total of
44 layers of founda-
tion will laid which
will consist of a very
strong mixture pre-
pared from stone bal-
last, stone powder
and stone coal ash.
Currently, only eight
layers of foundation
have been prepared
as the filling up of
foundation was slow
in the earlier stages
and the work has
picked up speed only
after 2 shifts have
been created for the
filling up of the foun-
dation. This has
shortened the times-
pan for the laying of
foundation to a week
from 12 to 15 days.
The construction process for the Ram temple began by digging up of land to hundred feet long, three hundred
feet wide and 50 meters deep to lay the foundation of the structure. This took two months to be completed
ALLEGATIONS OF SCAM
IN THE PURCHASE OF
LAND FOR THE TEMPLE
The recent accusation against the Shri Ram Janma-
bhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust for allegedly buying
land at a price more than the market price seemed
to de-rail the construction pace but has not been the
case as the trust could be seen making extra efforts
to complete the construction of the temple on time.
Champat Rai, general secretary of the Teerth Kshetra
Trust said that while the filling of the foundation be
completed by October, the construction of the temple
will be completed on time.
WORK ON MANY FRONTS FOR
TIMELY CONSTRUCTION
Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust had
announced the completion of temple construc-
tion in 39 months at the time of Bhoomi Pujan and
currently 10 months and 12 days have elapsed. With
only 28 months 18 days remaining for the construc-
tion of the temple, the Tirth Kshetra Trust is planning
to take the bull by the horns and has come up with
plans to implement work on several fronts simultane-
ously. The work of filling up of the foundation will
commence soon after the digging up and the retaining
walls to be built in Parkota and western end will also
commence at the same time.
INSTITUTIONS
PLANNING TO
MAKE PRESENCE
IN AYODHYA
The Yogi govern-
ment through
detailed schemes
for Ayodhya
has planned to
transform it into
a global tourism
hub. These devel-
opment schemes
have caught the
eye of the world’s
renowned organi-
zations, entrepre-
neurs and elite as
the state govern-
ment has received
request from many
for building vari-
ous facilities like a
grand resort, golf
course, spir-
itual cum wellness
center, etc.. A
total of 34 reputed
institutions of
the country and
abroad have come
forward with their
plans to make
Ayodhya a grand
tourist spot along
with being a reli-
gious centre.
THE TEMPLE
WITH SIX PEAKS
WILL HAVE
366 PILLARS
The proposed
temple at Ayodhya
will be three floors
high with a floor
height of 20 feet.
A whopping 366
pillars will be built
out of which 160
pillars will be on
the ground floor,
32 on the first
floor and 74 on the
second floor. The
temple will have
five sub-shikharas
in addition to the
161 feet high main
shikharas.

Lucknow: The domi-
nance of IPS officers of
Uttar Pradesh cadre
seems to be decreasing
gradually in the Cen-
tral government as
there was a time when
IPS officers of UP cadre
used to dominate the
Central government,
but for the last one and
a half year, more than
one a half dozen IPS
officers who were work-
ing in the Central gov-
ernment on deputation
came back while more
than a dozen officers
were still waiting for
NOC. The main reason
behind this is that the
assembly elections are
to be held in UP in 2022
and the state govern-
ment does not want to
leave its hardworking,
honest and good image
officers, while the offi-
cers whom the state
government wants to
send to Central govern-
ment do not meet crite-
ria of Center. There is
always a process of offi-
cers coming back to
their original cadre
from Central deputa-
tion, but due to Corona,
about 16 IPS officers
have returned to the UP
cadre. Apart from this,
2 IPS officers Rajiv Rai
Bhatnagar and SP Ma-
heshwari have retired
while serving the Cen-
tral government while
Javed Akhtar, an DG
rank IPS officer died
during treatment for
Corona while serving
in Central government.

senior leader Sunil Rai
demanded the removal
of state chief Ajay Ku-
mar Lallu. Addressing
a press conference at
the Uttar Pradesh Press

apprehended a threat
to his life and sought
police protection.
The Congress leader
has written a letter to

UPCC president had an
anti-upper caste mind-
set and did not allow
leaders, other than
those belonging to the
OBC category, to ac-
tively work for the par-
ty. Sunil Rai, a former
state secretary, said
that he had filed an FIR
against Ajay Kumar
Lallu six months ago
when the latter tore
down a hoarding put
up by him.
“I had put up hoard-
ings around the PCC

Thereafter, Rai lodged
an FIR at the Hussain-

“However, the police,

argument of the peti-

the State do that? If

The Court also ques-

the petitioner, stating
that the plea was more
in the nature of a pub-

The Court further de-

The Court dismissed
the petition, remarking
that it is inclined to im-

THERE IS A LOT OF DIVERSITY BUT OUR
DEMOCRACY IS STRONG AMID ALL THIS: BIRLA
z How have you spent
the 2 years of your
tenure and taken
ahead your responsi-
bilities?
Indeed, it is the highest
institution of the Indi-
an democracy in the
largest democratic na-
tion in the world. When
I took charge of the 17th
Lok Sabha, it was quite
challenging. Lok Sabha
is the best institution
from where we can do
'public- welfare' in the
country and make plans
in this direction. I made
efforts to run the House
properly, regularly, and
make it result- oriented
with support of all the
members, leaders of the
ruling and the opposi-
tion parties, and the
Prime Minister.
z A number of intel-
lectuals have occu-
pied this Chair. How
much pressure did
you feel, of expecta-
tions etc., when as-
sumed the Chair?
This is indeed right that
it was very challenging
for the former Speakers
under whose tenure the
Constitution was made
and various important
amendments were in-
troduced. And, I thank
all those former Speak-
ers, who installed the
democratic values and
introduced the consti-
tutional values. They
worked hard to enhance
the integrity of this
Chair by working im-
partially and in an un-
biased manner.
z What challenges
were there to hold
Parliament sessions
during the Covid-19
pandemic?
When I assumed the re-
sponsibility, the first
session was held for 37
days, which was un-
precedented, and 35
Bills were passed. And
the special thing was
that the session was
held without disruption
with support of all the
members of the House.
In the very first session,
we achieved 125% pro-
ductivity and all mem-
bers ensured active par-
ticipation. I thank all
the members, who sat
till late in the night dur-
ing the proceedings as
the new members were
to raise their local is-
sues. Especially with
regard to female mem-
bers, this House had
maximum number of
female law makers and
they all participated
with zeal, which was a
special aspect of this
session. With support
of all, this session had
been unprecedented
and historic as well.
z During the Corona
pandemic, you had to
adjourn the House as
some members got in-
fected. How did you
handle it?
Amid the global Corona
surge in March, it was
not only tough to hold
the budget session
while upholding the
constitutional values,
but also to save people’s
lives. I thank all the
members, who during
the Covid surge, ful-
filled their responsibili-
ties and sat in the ses-
sion till late in the
night. In the 4th ses-
sion, the productivity
was 167%, which is his-
toric. We received ad-
vice from experts about
how to run the House.
We held meeting with
the Vice President and
decided to run both the
Houses while following
the Covid protocols. We
worked in unison so
there was no difficulty
.
z There is a challenge
of third Covid wave.
Is virtual session pos-
sible?
We held a discussion
but most of the mem-
bers were of the view
that the session should
not be held virtually, it
should be physical. For
committees, some peo-
ple demanded virtual
meetings, but the rules
and regulations for the
committees and the
session are different.
The meetings of com-
mittees are confiden-
tial as such virtual
meetings are not possi-
ble. And rules will have
to be changed in the
House.
z How do you handle
disruptions in the
House?
Elected representatives
from different regions
and different ideologies
are present in the
House, . There is a lot of
diversity, but our de-
mocracy is strong amid
all this. The speciality
of the democracy is to
sit, talk, discuss and re-
solve the issue. We also
listen to them, have dia-
logue, and find a solu-
tion. Our efforts remain
that the House operates
despite arguments, de-
bates, and disagree-
ments. This time the
highest 107 Bills were
passed this time where-
in, about 1,742 mem-
bers participated.
z Members across
party lines expect
your call on birth-
days, sickness etc.?
All members are our
companions and it is
our responsibility to
share their joys and
sorrows. It is my re-
sponsibility to take all
parties along and make
efforts to resolve their
problems. I try to keep
in touch with their
families.
z Many members,
who earlier did not
speak in the House,
have started to raise
their voice. Is there
any vision behind
giving time to all?
I have made an effort of
urging all the members
that they are elected
and people have expec-
tations from them to
raise their issues in the
House. In a day, 161
members raised their
issues during the Zero
Hour. The government
also answered ques-
tions and tried to re-
solve the issues.
z Do you think dur-
ing your tenure, a
law for defection
should be brought?
Defection law is already
there, but some draw-
backs are there and we
hold meetings to im-
prove the law.
z How do you per-
ceive the political tus-
sle in Rajasthan?
Well, political people
can tell more about this.
My responsibility is
constitutional. My ef-
fort is to work more for
thewelfareof thepeople
of Rajasthan, how to
change life of a person
standing at the end of
the societal line. Ra-
jasthan is my karmak-
shetra (work place) and
janmasthal (birth place)
so my efforts remain to
take Rajasthan forward.
z Do you feel you
have got away from
Rajasthan?
We should fulfill what-
ever responsibilities
come our way. I have
been tasked with re-
sponsibility of Lok
Sabha Speaker and my
effort is to fulfill it ac-
cording to the people’s
expectations. Our ef-
fort is to make this
democratic institution
stronger and more pow-
erful. I do not look into
future prospects and
live in the present and
try to work to the best
of my ability.
l There is no question of distance from Rajasthan, which is my Janmabhoomi
(birthplace) and Karmabhoomi (work place), but whatever responsibility is given, is
to be fulfilled with dedication. Om Birla said this in an Exclusive Interview with
First India’s Aditi Nagar, on completing 2 years as Lok Sabha Speaker. l My effort
is to work more for the welfare of the people of Rajasthan, said the LS Speaker
LS Speaker Om Birla with Aditi Nagar in New Delhi on Friday.

born and brought
up in a Sikh family
of Jaipur. At a very
young age, she
started learning
acting from Rahul
Sood at Star Stuck Acting
School and worked in vari-
ous projects like Pyar Tune
Kya Kiya (Zing), Raja Beta
(Zee TV), Hum Paanch
Phirse (Bindass) and Love

Talking about her jour-
ney in modelling, she said,
“After taking modelling
training from Cocoaberry,
Mumbai, I cracked the au-
ditions of Miss Rajasthan
2019 and was crowned as its
runner-up. After that, a se-
ries of opportunities were
coming my way. I was just
grabbing all of them and
was wishing for more to
come.”
Later on, Mittali secured
a position in the top 10 of
Glamanand Supermodel
India 2019 and was awarded
the titles of ‘Best talent’
and ‘Best Skin’. She said,
“Miss Rajasthan organisa-
tion is the only organisa-

mentorship of Miss Ra-

Mishra, I won the title of
‘Miss Global India’ and
went to Mexico to represent
India among 64 countries
which was very challeng-
ing yet the greatest experi-
ence of my life.”
Giving up has never been
an option for this beauty
queen and this attitude led
to her being awarded the
‘Tejaswini Samman 2021’.
Mittali shared that authen-

biggest and most important
learnings for her. She said,
“People live with a fear of
being judged by others and
they always try to meet
their expectations but this
makes us somebody that we
are not. We should be com-
fortable with what, how
and who we are.”
The message this radiant
beauty wants to give to the
youth is, “Being a pranic
healer I believe that there
are things beyond our per-
ception. You can be thrown
in a spin where pain and
heartbreaks are a part of
life and everything is tran-
sient. This life is a class-

tribulations are a test, you
will pass because you are
destined to.”
