The readings have different focuses (foci). The
preacher/sharer may focus on greed in the gospel.

 The gospel reading teaches us, Christians,
to avoid greed.
 The world considers it wise to accumulate
and appropriate a lot of wealth and
property (in the name of securing the future).

although it does not explicitly say it.
 But God considers it foolishness.
 Greed is an exercise in futility.
 For your death is just around the corner.
 Wealth does not make you invincible.

The readings have different focuses (foci). The preacher/sharer may focus on greed in the gospel.
  • 20.   • 21.  The gospel reading teaches us, Christians, to avoid greed.  The world considers it wise to accumulate and appropriate a lot of wealth and property (in the name of securing the future).  The world encourages us to be greedy, although it does not explicitly say it.  But God considers it foolishness.  Greed is an exercise in futility.  For your death is just around the corner.  Wealth does not make you invincible.
