Find hope in Christ as you are reminded of His amazing promises. This reading plan comprised of articles from a variety of Bibles by Zondervan Publishers offers insights into having hope during a various aspects of life.
What Is Control? Control seems to be a problem in every time of transition from an old wave of God's glory to a new wave, such as we are experiencing today. The power of control affects every circle of Christianity. The abuse of control holds people in unnecessary bondage and hinders them from fulfilling the purpose of God in their lives. There is a natural control that people can exert over others, and there is a self-control that must be exercised within the individual. But there is also a demonic control that can be exercised by one person over another. While this book will deal with the abuse of control, we will also examine the positive side of control, which is called "commitment." This God-given authority is placed on an individual who is committed to fulfill the plan of God in the earth and who looks to the Lord—not to people—for personal security and promotion. Each of us needs to exercise self-control in order to keep ourselves free from sin. We exercise that control by applying the Word of God to our lives. The Word is the balance, and we must all use discipline in our daily experiences. But people who exercise abusive control seek to become the deciding factor in the lives of others. Such individuals replace the Word of God as the balance in the lives of those whom they dominate; they react negatively if they are not the control point of all decisions made. We must realize that what is happening in the spiritual realm is being reflected in the natural realm. There is a great struggle going on in the world today for control of people's minds. This struggle is between the forces of light (Christianity) and the forces of darkness (Satanic powers).

Not long ago, I was in Dallas holding aseminar. My daughter, Zona, was with me,helping with the book and tape sales. Zonaowns two exercise studios and had a financialneed for $3,000. She told me about it, but Ididn't respond. I've taught her for years totrust God. Sometimes the pressure of asituation will nag at you so strongly that youwill bypass God and look to a person—especially one who has what you need. That night, Zona had a night vision—avision that occurs when you are asleep. God speaks to your spirit and shows you what youneed to see. It's from God—not from the pizzayou ate earlier! The next morning, she told me about thedream she received, saying, "Daddy, Daddy, Idon't like it!" She said, "I dreamed I was aninstructor in an exercise place.""Well," I said, "that's what you are.""But, Daddy, I was just an instructor in theexercise place and not the owner."She continued to describe the dream. In it,there was a man who owned the place.Because Zona needed financial help, she askedher boss for more money. He refused and heaped abuse on her. The dream had greatlyupset her. She didn't understand the truth thatGod was trying to reveal to her in this dream, but I immediately did.I said, "Zona, Zona. That dream was for you.God was showing you what happens whenyou prostitute your faith. I've told you foryears what to do, but you flounder around andlook to man for help, and God doesn't like it.Why don't you change?"You might say, "That seems very harsh,Brother Norvel.' But, in these last days, God isrevealing the truth so we won't have tostumble around in darkness for the rest of ourlives. Yes, when I said that, it was harsh.Sometimes the truth can be offensive. But if welisten and apply it, it will always set us free.Meanwhile, Zona sat in a chair mumblingtearfully, "Oh, Daddy, oh, Daddy." I said to her, "Zona, honey, little darling, Jesus lovesyou! Why don't you start thanking Jesus for what you want and Jesus will give it to you.
Youcan be free from your prostitute faith.Don't go to man. God says, 'Forget not togive God thanks in everything.' Why don't youdo it?"Crying, she said, "Okay, Daddy, I will, Iwill.'After this conversation on Saturdaymorning, we both began thanking Jesus forhelping her. Later, she went to work behindthe tape and book table during the seminar.Soon, a person walked up and said, "Zona,God has been dealing with me for two days. Here's a check the Lord told me to give you."She looked at the check—
four thousand dollars!

Now you can uncover God’s truth on good days or hard days, in the car pool line or the doctor’s office with devotions designed to meet you where you are.

Someone very wise has said, “You don;t know what you believe until you have to.” Few things tell us more about ourselves or about what we believe about God than tough times.
Everyone has or will face tough times. This message of timeless biblical truths will refresh our minds and hearts no matter where we are in life, especially if we are in a storm so dark and confusing that we feel somewhat helpless to rescue ourselves. If that is you, relax. Our Heavenly Father is already working to make that situation turn out for your good in some mysterious but wonderful way. This is what this message is all about.
Beth starts off the message with a real illustration of how good God is from her life last week!

"All preachers want is your money!" Iam sure you have heard these faith-destroying words before. You may haveeven said them.Think about it. Have you ever heardanyone say, "All the breakfast cerealcompanies want is your money"? You probably haven't. Yet, if you perform thefollowing test, you will soon find out whatcereal manufacturers really want. Pick up a box of your favorite cereal at the grocerystore, and tell the clerk at the checkoutcounter you are not going to pay for it, because all the cereal makers really want isfor you to have a wholesome breakfast. If you try this test, you will find out that all they really want is your money! With that thought in mind, let me pose afew interesting questions. Why don't we ever hear people say, "All grocers want is your money"? "All automobile dealers want isyour money"? "All insurance agents, theater owners, gas station attendants, and fast-foodclerks want is your money"?All of these organizations have one primary purpose. They want to get your money! Everyone knows this is true, so whydo we continue to hear that it's the preacherswho want our money? If you think about it, you will have toconclude there is a sinister plot at work against preachers. It is a devilish plan to break your confidence in godly ministers.Christians must wake up to the fact thatthe devil is interfering with the way theythink about preachers and their reason for being in the ministry. Satan knows if he cantrick you into believing that all preachers really want is your money, it will block youfrom receiving God's best.

The laziness mechanism turns on when our subconscious mind begins to classify the work or job at hand as a useless, resource and time wasting undertaking, even if the person knowingly understands the importance and the need to perform the job. Knowing the causes of laziness will help in overcoming it because the only way to overcome laziness is to understand its nature and particularly its causes. Six (6) causes of laziness are discussed in the these few slides.

Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

17. Scriptures Help Us Become Good
. . . the purpose of the gospel is . . . to
make bad men good and good men
better, and to change human
nature
Thus, the journey of a lifetime is to
progress from bad to good to better and to
experience the mighty change of heart--
and to have our fallen natures changed.

Good
May I suggest that the Book of
Mormon is our handbook of
instructions as we travel the pathway
from bad to good to better and to
have our hearts changed.

18. FEAR: To the restored Church the Lord has stated time and time again that
fear is not of God and will not enter the hearts of those who love the Lord and
live righteously: "Wherefore, be of good cheer, and do not fear, for I the Lord
am with you, and will stand by you" (D&C 68:6).
DUTY: Men who only carry out that which is within their duty and go no
further have no claim to any reward beyond the scope of that duty and are
unprofitable servants. (Luke 17:7-10)
LOVE: "And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all
thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first
commandment…The logic of this is simple, clear, and unequivocal: the proof
of love of God is love of one's brother. This becomes the fundamental
commandment of Christianity. (Mark 12:30-31).

words which had been spoken
by my father; wherefore, I did
not rebel against him like unto

36. Things of a Testimony
Throughout my life, I have gained spiritual strength
from the phrase “we heeded them not” (1 Nephi 8:33).
In 1 Nephi some who are making their way to the tree
of life don’t heed the mocking voices. Fingers of scorn
are pointed at them, but they don’t falter.
They don’t listen. Likewise, we hear many loud,
tempting voices today. Sometimes it can be a real
struggle not to heed those voices, but Lehi shows that it
is possible.
Pure Testimony - M. Russell Ballard
37. Things of a Testimony
My experience throughout the Church leads me to
worry that too many of our members’ testimonies linger
on “I am thankful” and “I love,” and too few are able to
say with humble but sincere clarity, “I know.”
As a result, our meetings sometimes lack the testimony-rich,
spiritual underpinnings that stir the soul and have
meaningful, positive impact on the lives of all those who
hear them.
Pure Testimony - M. Russell Ballard
38. Things of a Testimony
Our testimony meetings need to be more centered on
the Savior, the doctrines of the gospel, the blessings of
the Restoration, and the teachings of the scriptures. We
need to replace stories, travelogues, and lectures with
pure testimonies.
Those who are entrusted to speak and teach in our
meetings need to do so with doctrinal power that will be
both heard and felt, lifting the spirits and edifying our
people.
Pure Testimony - M. Russell Ballard

41. “Happy Is the Man That Findeth Wisdom”
Principle #1 — We must desire the companionship of
the Holy Ghost.
And when they had ministered those same words which
Jesus had spoken—nothing varying from the words
which Jesus had spoken—behold, they knelt again and
prayed to the Father in the name of Jesus.
And they did pray for that which they most desired; and
they desired that the Holy Ghost should be given unto
them. 3 Nephi 19:6-9
42. “Happy Is the Man That Findeth Wisdom”
Principle #2 — We must invite the companionship of
the Holy Ghost
We cannot compel or coerce or command the Holy
Ghost. We must invite Him into our lives with the same
gentleness and tenderness by which He influences us.
Frankly, I am bothered by frequently repeated language
that suggests we can "call down the powers of heaven."
Certainly we can invite such power, but I would never
suggest we can "call it down" according to our will and
timing.
43. “Happy Is the Man That Findeth Wisdom”
Principle #3 — We must heed simple promptings.
The law of the harvest is real; we cannot gather crops in
the fall which we did not properly plant and cultivate
during the spring and summer. And we cannot
realistically expect to recognize "big" promptings if we
consistently fail to heed the "small" ones. The Lord’s
pattern is to teach us ". . . line upon line, precept upon
precept, here a little and there a little . . ." (2 Nephi
28:30).

Principle #3 — We must heed simple promptings.
Thus, revelation from our Heavenly Father comes most
frequently in small increments and, like all knowledge,
is granted according to our preparation. Misguided
attempts to get spiritually supercharged through
unusually long prayers, lengthy and unwise fasting, and
intensive, short-term temple attendance certainly are
no substitute for gradual, consistent, and conscientious
attention to the promptings of the Holy Ghost

Principle #4 — We must heed promptings quickly.
Have you ever received and recognized a prompting
from the Holy Ghost, and then decided to respond to it
"later"? And then when later arrived, you found that
you could not remember the prompting. I have learned
that acting upon promptings quickly greatly increases
our capacity to receive and recognize the influence of
the Holy Ghost.

I have also learned that properly recording spiritual
impressions demonstrates to the Savior how much I
treasure His direction. The simple practice of writing
down spiritual thoughts and feelings greatly enhances
the likelihood of receiving and recognizing additional
promptings from the Holy Ghost.
