Anthony Cascella, 41, was arrested and charged with robbery, burglary, and larceny for his alleged involvement in two armed robberies in Torrington, Connecticut in the early morning hours. He is accused of invading a residential treatment home around 2 AM, confronting a resident with a knife, and stealing cash and keys. A police K-9 tracked the suspect's scent but did not find him. Around 5 AM, Cascella is alleged to have committed an armed robbery at a convenience store. He is being held on $500,000 bond. Police indicate Cascella acted alone in both cases.

This document discusses opportunities for buying distressed real estate properties due to the current foreclosure trends. It outlines the benefits of buying now including increased affordability and potential for appreciation. It provides tips for successful buying such as getting pre-approved, building a strong team with an expert agent, understanding the differences between traditional and distressed property rules regarding price, speed, decision-making and negotiation. Key points emphasized are that foreclosure inventory remains high, all parties are motivated to sell, and mortgage rates are low, though not for long. Myths about distressed properties are debunked.
This document provides an overview of the history and evolution of foreclosure dispute resolution programs in the United States. It describes how such programs have progressed through three phases from their inception during the foreclosure crisis to ongoing improvements. The first phase focused on setting up mediation between borrowers and servicers. Problems included low participation rates and a lack of understanding. The second phase aimed to increase participation and outcomes through improved screening, preparation and timelines. The third phase seeks to ensure compliance and give borrowers the best chance to avoid foreclosure. Evaluation shows varying results across programs.

It provides tips for active listening skills, asking open-ended questions, focusing on feelings, and setting time limits. The document also presents sample ground rules for mediation and scenarios to discuss roommate conflicts that RAs may encounter.

The document repeatedly lists the address 6700 Alexander Bell Drive, Suite 200, Columbia, MD 21046 and phone number (410) 884-3180 over 30 times. It provides contact information for an organization located at this address and phone number in Columbia, Maryland.
The document discusses the history of the mortgage crisis beginning in 2007 and the fraudulent foreclosure practices that emerged in its wake. It describes how hundreds of billions of dollars in risky mortgage-backed securities were sold globally and collapsed, forcing mass loan modifications and foreclosures. Loan servicers hired inexperienced staff who mishandled modifications while "robo-signers" approved foreclosures without verifying details. Widespread legal issues around mortgage ownership led to investigations and moratoriums on foreclosures. The crisis increased shadow inventories and will likely cause future price drops when properties are sold.
This document provides an overview of topics related to foreclosure mediation, including current foreclosure and bankruptcy statistics showing large increases, methods for finding work as a foreclosure mediator or virtual bankruptcy assistant, the process of gathering client information, different mediation techniques for negotiating with financial institutions, and closing deals through reaffirmation agreements. It highlights that over 2 million homes are in foreclosure in the US, with the top 5 states being California, Florida, Ohio, Texas, and Georgia. Bankruptcy filings have also increased significantly.

Lightning Talk #9: How UX and Data Storytelling Can Shape Policy by Mika Aldabaux singapore
How can we take UX and Data Storytelling out of the tech context and use them to change the way government behaves?
Showcasing the truth is the highest goal of data storytelling. Because the design of a chart can affect the interpretation of data in a major way, one must wield visual tools with care and deliberation. Using quantitative facts to evoke an emotional response is best achieved with the combination of UX and data storytelling.

1. Would you pay $185,000 to live here?
PRE-FORECLOSURE:
1701-03 Frederick Avenue
Baltimore 21223
“List Price $191,498
Estimated Value $67,219”*
* http://www.realtytrac.com/propertydetails/md/baltimore/21223/frederick-ave/50710792
2. To Whom It May Concern:
I purchased 1701-03 Frederick Avenue on December 8, 2006 for
$125,000. The previous owner paid $17,000 for it in September of 1990,
thus realizing a profit of $108,000. He was running a furniture restoration
shop in the building. Besides the $125,000 purchase price, SunTrust
loaned me another $50,000 for renovations. I pitched in another $25,000
when that money ran out.
The fair market value of this property is closer to the $17,000 figure paid
in 1990 than to the $187,000 currently owed. The 2006 selling price of
$125,000 was an inflated value produced by the real estate bubble. The
value of 1701-03 Frederick Avenue, like the real estate market, plunged
soon after I purchased it. Given the conditions of the neighborhood
surrounding this property, it is unlikely that it will ever be worth
$100,000 again, much less the $187,000 owed. At best, it will be many
years, probably decades, before the value ever rises anywhere near what I
have invested in it.
In 2009, during the previous loan modification, I brought this to
SunTrust’s attention and requested a reduction in the principle. I had a
market assessment done which explained why the value was, at best, half
the amount owed. SunTrust refused to consider reducing the principle.
3. The conditions surrounding 1701-03 Frederick Avenue continue to
deteriorate. While the 2000 census tallied 31, 016 residents in zip code
21223, by 2010 the tally had fallen to 14, 343 in 2010. West Baltimore
Street, which used to be a thriving business corridor, is a ghost town today.
Crime has increased since the 2008 recession, as has the number of
abandoned buildings. I dare not walk around at night, and even daytime
can be dangerous.
I could have paid the outstanding balance due in January of this year
when I received $17,000+ in student loan money to begin a Masters
Degree in Instructional Systems Development at UMBC. I chose not to.
After years of struggling to keep this house, I have finally accepted the
reality that paying $187,000+ for this property is foolish.
So today I am prepared to lose my house unless SunTrust reduces the
basis, reduces the total principle owed, to reflect the fair market value of
1701-03 Frederick Avenue.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Joseph Roberson

45. Position Statement
1. If Suntrust reduces the principal to the fair market
value, then I am definitely interested in retaining the
property.
2. If Suntrust allows me to resume paying the
current monthly mortgage payment, adding all
missed payments, legal fees, et al, onto the principle,
then I may be interested.
3. If Suntrust requires payment of all missed
payments, legal fees, et al, as a prerequisite for
avoiding foreclosure, then I am definitely not
interested.
