Farmers' markets and large-scale medical cannabis grows will no longer be legally defensible after July 1, 2016 due to changes in Washington state law. The collective garden statute that allowed up to 10 patients to jointly grow and share cannabis will be repealed. Under the new medical cooperative model, only 4 patients can form a cooperative to grow a maximum of 60 plants total. Membership changes will also be limited, preventing the rotating membership models used by farmers' markets. Dispensaries that relied on collective gardens will also lose their legal protection and could face prosecution if they continue operating.
