1) We were made for adventure and living adventurous lives of faith.
2) The Bible shows that people of faith like Abraham lived as strangers on Earth, looking forward to a heavenly homeland prepared by God.
3) Having faith in God leads to the greatest adventures and rewards like joy, which Jesus endured the cross for.
14. Made for the A
Heb 11: 8-16:8
By faith Abraham, when called to
go to a place he would later receive as his
inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he
did not know where he was going.
9
By faith he made his home in the promised
land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived
in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs
with him of the same promise. 10
For he was
looking forward to the city with foundations,
whose architect and builder is God.
15. Made for the A
11 And by faith even Sarah, who was past
childbearing age, was enabled to bear
children because she considered him
faithful who had made the promise. 12 And so
from this one man, and he as good as
dead, came descendants as numerous as the
stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on
the seashore.
16. Made for the A
13
All these people were still living by faith when
they died. They did not receive the things
promised; they only saw them and welcomed
them from a distance, admitting that they were
foreigners and strangers on earth.14
People who
say such things show that they are looking for a
country of their own.
17. Made for the A
15
If they had been thinking of the country they
had left, they would have had opportunity to
return. 16
Instead, they were longing for a better
country—a heavenly one. Therefore God is not
ashamed to be called their God, for he has
prepared a city for them.
18. Made for the A: 1
We are foreigners and strangers of
this earth.
Our home is a HEAVENLY ONE.
19. Made for the A: 2
The greatness of your Adventure is
proportionate to your FAITH in God.
21. If you read history you will find that
the Christians who did most for the
present world were precisely those
who thought most of the next. It is
since Christians have largely ceased
to think of the other world that they
have become so ineffective in this.
C.S. Lewis
22. 17
Join together in following my
example, brothers and sisters, and just as you
have us as a model, keep your eyes on those
who live as we do. 18
For, as I have often told
you before and now tell you again even with
tears, many live as enemies of the cross of
Christ. 19
Their destiny is destruction, their god
is their stomach, and their glory is in their
shame. Their mind is set on earthly
things. 20
But our citizenship is in heaven. And
we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord
Jesus Christ, (Phil 3:17-20)
24. “… ‘What is the use of
climbing Mount Everest?’ and
my answer must at once be, ‘It
is no use.’ But otherwise
nothing will come of it. We
shall not bring back a single
bit of gold or silver, not a gem,
nor any coal or iron. We shall
not find a single foot of earth
that can be planted with crops
to raise food… What we get
from this adventure is just
sheer joy. And joy is, after all,
the end of life.”
George Mallory
26. 23
His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good
and faithful servant; you have been
faithful over a few things, I will make you
ruler over many things. Enter into the
joy of your lord.’
Matthew 25:23
27. Therefore we also, since we are
surrounded by so great a cloud of
witnesses, let us lay aside every weight,
and the sin which so easily
ensnares us, and let us run with
endurance the race that is set before
us,2
looking unto Jesus, the author and
finisher of our faith, who for the joy that
was set before Him endured the cross,
despising the shame, and has sat down
at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews 12:1-2
28. Will your life this year be an
adventure of Faith?
Will the Father’s Joy be your greatest
desired reward?
Editor's Notes
Tintin is a young Belgian reporter who becomes involved in dangerous cases in which he takes heroic action to save the day. TheAdventures may feature Tintin hard at work in his investigative journalism, but seldom is he seen actually turning in a story. He is a boy of neutral attitudes with whom the audience can identify; in this respect, he represents the everyman.

National geographic “Adventurer of the Year”
Helen keller: life is either a great adventure or nothing
What comes to mind when we think of adventures?
challenges, risk, unknown
We are not in our own territory, foreingers, strangers to a new land, culture, environment and landscape.
We have an end destination, we know where we are headed despite the long uncertain trip, we have a map/ bearings/compass
Explorers and adventurers usually travel light, not like paris Hilton and her entourage. One 70 liter backpack, with only your essentials- swiss army knife, tents, cooking utensils, warm clothing, emergency aid and the rest is left at home.
Explorers are prepared for anything and everything
What do they feel: excitement, trill, anticipation, reflection, journaling, unplanned encounters
Attitude: “bring it on”, I am up for anything!
What do they adventure on: trekking through mountains, deserts, caves, underwater diving, snow trekking, swimming across oceans, ,mountaineering, space exploration etc

Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines forth.
why do we adventure/ explore: because we are captivated by the unknown and by the beauty of this world. Adventures are best when they are going through unexplored beauty of God’s creation, a sense of awe and admiration for the world
Today, people who go an adventurous persuit might do it for charitable purposes, to find deeper meaning and purpose in life, — to raise awareness of climate change (note: we’re aware) or generate funds for some worthy charity.

Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation. These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens

For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.
But what is the most beautiful thing God has ever given to us? LOVE. His love for us through his son Jesus Christ.
There are two kinds of adventurers: those who go truly hoping to find adventure and those who go secretly hoping they won t.
We are burdened by life and its baggages, we cannot bring our selves to travel “light” in this world. We accumulate, not let go
We see challenges in life as an end to itself, not as part of a greater adventure that has a greater end goal., life has became adversity instead of adventure. (1 John 4:4 says we are more than overcomers)
We have become fearful of life, fearful of failure, fearful that life is too harsh for us to bear… so we decide to live, safe, comfortable, predicatable lives when deep in our hearts, we secrertly long for an adventure.
Our design, make up, our instincts are created to long for more than just the ordinary, we want the supernatural, the excitement, the joy etc. just look at our God, does he look boring to you? Look at the bible, miraculous events, out of this world incidences happen when God isin charge.

Growing up, my teen life was a constant adventure in Sabah.
Jumping out of moving car, a slowww moving car I mean, walking through graveyards in the dark to go home, living alone in a jungle plantation, crossing flooded rivers and getting stuck in mud, reading books on nancy drew, hardy boys, famous five and Tintin!
What is the most repeated phrase here? “by faith”
Faith= obedience
All great men and women of God in the bible and this world have a great adventure story to tell because of the kind of faith they have in God. They complete obedience to God enabled them to live the most exciting, fulfilling life ever!
e.g. Hudson taylor, brother Andrew, Florence nightingle, smith wigglesworth, missionaries all over the world, people who follow God.
We are on earth because God takes pleasure in our relationship with Him. We are made for his joy and pleasure, and for our joy and pleasure. We are also on earth to reflect God’s glory to all the earth through the things we do and who we are. We were created to rule and extend dominion over the earth as ambassadors to God’s kingdom.
But when sin corrupted the earth and we lived in suffering on earth and eventually eternal damnation of hell (for all have sinned against God), God sent his son Jesus Christ to die for our sins and given us all power and authority demonstrate God’s righteousness, love, joy, peace and glory on earth.
Look at the world today: Who will ease the suffering of people? Who will make this world a better place? Who will show mankind that there is still hope, love and compassion abounding? Who will ensure that justice and righteousness prevail for the sick, marginalized and downtrodden? Who will rule governments and nations with justice? Who is called to bring hope to lost people? Who is called to save souls that are eternally lost?
WHO? The church. That is you, the people of God. Billy hybels passionately states that “the local church is the hope of the world”. You, through the gospel are the hope of the world. Your live of adventure isn’t merely about climbing mountains and exploring seas. The adventure you were meant to live is to live exactly what God has called you to do.. To be the church that is the hope and light of this world. What has God called you to do in this life? How is the life you live FOR HIM?
All great men and women on this earth, well deserving of the crown of Life did only one thing right their whole life, to live a life that pleases God. If you do exactly what God calls you to do, being/ working as a plumber, clerk, teacher, housewife, manager, student, doctors, domestic worker will be the most exciting job in your life.
I am a lecturer in a university, what I do is teach psychology. And that itself can be boring after some time. But what makes my life, I think very exciting? Is when among other things, I see my students engaged in their belief system, seeking for truth and answers to life and eventually finding and discovering the God who made them. That for me, makes every waking morning exciting.. Who can I engage the gospel? Who can lead to experienced a transformed life in Christ?
E.g. winnee in cyber church. Works in a banks. So boring. But every morning she wakes up asking God to give her opportunities to show hope, compassion, love, gospel and reflect God’s glory to her colleaugues. Guess what? Its been happening, she excited every morning to be ambassador of Jesus to the world.- FAITH
Other examples: Jaja- “God’s Vision, God’s Provision, God’s Will, God’s Bill.” (Scholarship, plane ticket to Malaysia, 5-6 salvations in 4 months, being a campus missionary and excellent scholar student.: FAITH
Smith wigglesworth- plumber- salvation army- street evangelist, preacher with a stutter, healing signs and miracles- FAITH
Ps Tim:
Greg Mortenson- mountaineer to school planter in Pakistan
Missionaries- Nepal, Pakistan,
Hudson taylor
George Muller- Orphanage manager
If I live everyday of my life knowing that I am here only temporarily and live in light of eternity, I will live radically different life. Every opportunity will count, every person is worth the gospel.

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is an award bestowed by the President of the United States and is—along with the comparable Congressional Gold Medal, bestowed by an act of U.S. Congress—the highest civilian award of the United States. It recognizes those individuals who have made "an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors“
If you are an employee, what is the best reward you can get? – a raise? Become boss? New positions?
If you are a student, what is your greatest reward?- As, stars, scholarships, PHDs, becoming first?
If you are a housewife, what is your great reward?- good kids, helpful husband, nice dinners, a break?
But if you are above all, an adventurer, soujourner and foreigners of this earth, being on earth for a mission to live your heavenly citizenship on earth, what is then your great reward?
Jesus talks about the great reward in heaven: the crown of life, the victor’s crown, the tree of life, the morning star (rev), to sit with Jesus on his throne etc… the martyr’s crown.
Mount Everest climber George Mallory talks about why he climbed mount Everest, what was he looking for? What rewards did he envision?
Our greatest happiness is usually not in the earthly material rewards we get itself. It is often the rewarding, pleasureable emotions that come with it. At the end of the day, we all want to be happy. Often circumstances enable this happiness.
You can have the same joy I have, and that joy will be the fullest possible joy. (John 15:11)
In the same way, our heavenly reward that is non comparable, unspeakable, indescrible JOY that comes from experiencing our Father’s pleasure in heaven! No money, relationship, status, investment returns, travel experience, selfies can truly offer this JOY that only comes when we have run and finish the adventure of faith on earth.
In fact, this was why even JESUS, Son of God focused on the joy that was set before him to endure the suffering, shame on earth.
In the same way, many have gone before, witnesses and forerunners of our faith… they are cheering us on, David, Abraham, Esther, great men and women of God.
