This document contains summaries of how different biblical figures discuss waiting for Jesus' return according to the Bible. It discusses passages from Matthew, Romans, 2 Peter, James, 1 Corinthians, Revelation, and quotes from Ellen White. The key points made are:
- Matthew describes signs that will precede Jesus' return and teaches we should be prepared, multiply our talents, and help those in need.
- Romans and 2 Peter encourage living faithfully according to God's word as we wait.
- James says faith requires works to be alive.
- 1 Corinthians likens the process to planting and harvesting with each playing a role.
- Revelation describes the new Jerusalem where God and his people will dwell
The fruit of the spirit is joy. Paul’s letter tto the Philippians teaches us that real joy is not dependent on our circumstances, but on being in a right relationship with our Lord Jesus and with our brothers and sisters in Christ.
In order to rightly divide the word of truth, we must understand the context of God's word, which to at least some extent, is impacted by history and timing. This Bible study delves into the dispensations of time, revealing God's relationship with mankind in each.

By examining God’s patience in the days of Noah, with man, with Paul, and in the parable of the Unmerciful Servant we find the keys to our patience. We must be patient in teaching, helping and forgiving.
This is a summary presentation of Chafer's teaching on dispensations. This is not my own opinion and is not necessarily commonly held in the Body of Christ today.
Patience is a virtue that many of us need to work on. What is patience? What can I do to increase my patience? What are some consequences of not being patient? How does God give us patience? Hopefully this lesson will help you answer these questions. Audio: http://w65stchurchofchrist.org/Sermons/Audio_Sermons/2010_04_04_Lord_Give_Me_Patience_Now.mp3
Before His crucifixion the Saviour explained to His disciples that He was to be put to death and to rise again from the tomb, and angels were present to impress His words on minds and hearts. [See Mark 8:31, 32; 9:31; 10:32-34.] But the disciples were looking for temporal deliverance from the Roman yoke, and they could not tolerate the thought that He in whom all their hopes centered should suffer an ignominious death. The words which they needed to remember were banished from their minds, and when the time of trial came it found them unprepared. The death of Jesus as fully destroyed their hopes as if He had not forewarned them.
So in the prophecies the future is opened before us as plainly as it was opened to the disciples by the words of Christ. The events connected with the close of probation and the work of preparation for the time of trouble, are clearly presented. But multitudes have no more understanding of these important truths than if they had never been revealed.--GC 594 (1911).
What is "true repentance?" Repentance is something Every Sinner Must Do - (Lk 13:3,5; Acts 17:30) - Repentance is something God wants & desires every sinner to do - (Rom 2:3-6; 2 Peter 3:9). - This lesson examines the nature & attitude of true repentance from Psalm 51:1-17. Getting to Know Paul | The Apostle to the GentilesNeo Lamperouge
Most of us have heard of Paul in the Bible but how much do we really know of him? Here in this series, we go deeper with some of the biographies of Bible characters.
This presentation examines the character of the Bible - its inerrancy, sufficiency, authority, and more, and also exposes various myths and confusion concerning the Scripture's inerrancy.
This is a study of how Jesus makes it possible for all believers to have eternal rest. Rest is much more that just doing nothing. It is peace from all that makes this earth hard. Heaven will be so much better with the rest of God and Jesus.
The term Kingdom of Heaven has been used frequently in sermons and books but little is known about it. The Gospels spoke of it as a mystery. The Lord’s Prayer mentioned about asking God for His Kingdom to come. Is there a difference between Heaven and the Kingdom of Heaven?

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

3. WAITING ACCORDING TO JESUS “but the one who
stands firm to the
end will be saved.”
(Matthew 24:13 NIV)
In Matthew 24, Jesus depicted the signs that would
announce His Coming:
False Christs.
Wars and rumors of wars.
Famines, pestilences and
earthquakes.
Nations against nations.
Religious persecution.
False prophets.
Love growing cold.
The gospel being preached worldly.
The abomination of desolation.
Deceitful signs and miracles.
The sun and the moon being
darkened.
Stars falling from heaven.
Heaven being shaken.
4. WAITING ACCORDING TO JESUS
“but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.” (Matthew 24:13 NIV)
In Matthew 25, Jesus taught us how to wait for His Return:
Be aware, prepare
in advance and
care about our
own spiritual
condition (v. 1-13)
Multiplying the
talents and the
money God has
given us by
investing in God’s
cause (v. 14-30)
Taking care of “the
least”; that is,
those who need
our help (v. 31-46)
5. WAITING ACCORDING TO PETER
“Therefore, beloved, looking forward to
these things, be diligent to be found by
Him in peace, without spot and
blameless.” (2 Peter 3:14)
In 2 Peter 3, Peter wants to “stir up our pure minds”
and invites us to study the messages from the
prophets (OT), Jesus and the apostles (NT).
Peter encourages us to avoid skepticism and
despondency as we wait for Jesus’ Coming, “but
grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ.” (v. 18).
1. Personal repentance and preparation.
2. Living “without spot and blameless.”
3. Focusing on mission and service.
The revival and reformation that
Peter depicts involves:
6. “A revival of true godliness among us is the
greatest and most urgent of all our needs. To seek
this should be our first work. There must be
earnest effort to obtain the blessing of the Lord,
not because God is not willing to bestow His
blessing upon us, but because we are unprepared to
receive it. Our heavenly Father is more willing to
give His Holy Spirit to them that ask Him, than are
earthly parents to give good gifts to their children.
But it is our work, by confession, humiliation,
repentance, and earnest prayer, to fulfill the
conditions upon which God has promised to grant
us His blessing. A revival need be expected only in
answer to prayer.”
E.G.W. (Selected Messages, vol. 1, cp. 16, pg. 121)
7. WAITING ACCORDING TO JAMES
“For as the body without
the spirit is dead, so faith
without works is dead
also.” (James 2:26)
James states that waiting involves action.
The Church and each Church member has
a mission to fulfill; to preach the eternal
Gospel all over the world.
Faith is not enough to do so. There must
be action that supports our faith.
Clothing the naked is not just telling
him, “Depart in peace, be warmed.”
We’ll fulfill that mission by preaching, teaching
and healing. We must bring a plan of holistic
restoration to the souls to save; physical, mental
and especially spiritual healing. A better life here
and forever.
8. WAITING ACCORDING TO PAUL
“I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. So
neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who
makes things grow. The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose,
and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor.” (1 Corinthians 3:6-8 NIV)
The mission of the Church points to a
certain end; THE FINAL HARVEST,
preaching the Gospel to the whole
world.
Getting to the harvest takes a long
process. First, the field must be
prepared. Then, the seed is sowed and
the fields are watered cared. Finally,
the harvest is gathered.
Each one of us is part of that process.
We are driven by the Holy Spirit.
There is a battle for the heart and
mind of every human being, and God
is calling us to help people choose
Him.
9. WAITING ACCORDING TO JOHN
“And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, ‘Behold, the tabernacle of God
is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God
Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear
from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There
shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.’”
(Revelation 21:3-4)
Revelation tells us the story of two cities. People in Babylon love sin. People in
Jerusalem love God.
There’s a call to get out of Babylon, to
leave sin and to be transformed in
citizens of Heaven. That’s a miracle
that’s fulfilled through the blood of
Christ and the work of the Holy Spirit.
God transforms us from sinners to
servants.
Once the Great Controversy is over, the
joyfully noise will resound in Jerusalem.
Every tear will be wiped away. We’ll
have been restored to God’s image and
we’ll live joyfully with Him forever.
I want to be there by God’s grace. Do you?
10. “At times as I see a cloud in the sky, I involuntarily
exclaim, “Come, Lord Jesus, and come quickly.” Such
times as this will reveal character. I long to see the
deceptive power of the enemy broken. But we will not
let our faith fail. The only real comfort I find is to look
beyond this conflict, and see the final triumph, the
glory of God reflecting brightness on the overcomers.
Prophecy points out the sure result of the conflict, and
by faith we may see it...
The restraining power of the Spirit of God is being
withdrawn from the earth. Our work must be done
quickly. We must put forth every effort in our power
to save souls from death. Soon the Lord God of heaven
will set up His kingdom, which shall never be
destroyed. Now is the time for us to develop a pure,
heavenly character. The work will increase more and
more in earnestness and intensity until the end. We
need an increase of faith. We must watch unto prayer.”
