1889
The Michigan Retail Lumber Dealers
Association was formed mostly by James B.
Ware a lumber salesman.
1891
The association held its second annual
convention in Saginaw due to the number of
mills in the area.
5. MLBMA History
1909
The association was represented at the Lumber
Trade Congress where the code of ethics was
developed to help create fair mindedness within the
trade.
1916
The National Association selected Fred Lowrie of
Detroit as the president for it’s first year.

Did you know?
– Within our history, William and Richard Judd Jr.
have served as president and were grandfather
and grandson. William in 1903 and Richard in
1985.
– In 1948 the Association was the first in Michigan
to receive Insurance Commission permission to
institute an association-sponsored group
insurance program.

– Within our history, the Association has had four
father and son combinations serve as president.
They were:
• Reinhard & Arthur Kleinpell- 1915 & 1936
• Fred & Edwin Westover- 1925 & 1947
• Charles & Edwin Weeks- 1927 & 1932
• Walter & William Peacook- 1951 & 1979
