THREE AREA SCHOOLS READY TO BATTLE FOR TOP PRIZE IN THIRD
ANNUAL MAHONING COUNTY AT&T PROJECT REDIRECTORY PHONE BOOK
RECYCLING PROGRAM!
Damascus Elementary School Seeks Third Consecutive Victory
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio, April 2, 2012 – It’s that time of year when trees bud, flowers bloom, and area
Mahoning County schools try to win some green while improving the environment.
It’s the third annual AT&T Project ReDirectory phone book recycling campaign sponsored by the
Mahoning County Green Team, where a total of $1,000 can be earned by participating schools.
The program, a combined effort of the Mahoning County Green Team and AT&T Advertising Solutions,
begins April 1 and continues through April 30. Last year’s campaign saw more than 10,000 old
telephone directories collected, or just over 5 tons.
“This phone book recycling program teaches our local area youth about the importance of recycling
while also giving the communities an opportunity to participate,” said State Senator Joe Schiavoni.“We
can all be thankful for the tremendous work of teachers and students across Mahoning County and
their contribution to the AT&T Project ReDirectory program.”
Jim Petuch, Mahoning County Green Team director is looking forward to another great year.
2. “We are so delighted to be participating in this program again this year,” said Petuch. “The students
really enjoy collecting old directories, and the schools certainly enjoy and can use the money they win. I
think it’s a tremendous opportunity to teach people at an early age about the importance of protecting
our environment.”
Recycling collection bins will be located at these three participating schools:
Damascus Elementary School, 14405 Pricetown Road, Salem
Martin Luther King Elementary School, 2724 Mariner Avenue, Youngstown
Poland Union Elementary School, 30 Riverside Drive, Poland
Prizes will be awarded to all three schools, with $500 going to the school collecting the most directories
(with a minimum of one ton of outdated phone books), $300 for second place, and $200 for third place.
AT&T Project ReDirectory is part of the company’s corporate citizenship and sustainability efforts.
“We are looking forward to another successful phone book recycling school challenge,” said Vicki
Raymond, AT&T Advertising Solutions area marketing manager. “This is an exciting and important
project for AT&T, and we’re proud to be a part of improving the environment in Mahoning County.”
