The document is a sermon outline on false teachers and counterfeit Christians based on passages from 2 Peter 2 and Jude. 2 Corinthians 12/12-13/14, Cessation, signs, wonders and miracles mark apostl...Valley Bible Fellowship
2 Corinthians Chapter 12/12-13/14, The Signs Of A True Apostle; Miraculous Signs And Wonders Confirmed The Apostle’s Message; Christ In You, But Not In Jehovah Witnesses; God Disciplines Us; Examine Yourselves; Cessation; Signs, Wonders And Miracles; Cessationism
The birth of Jesus Christ is considered the greatest miracle of all time according to the document. It was an unequaled event in human history as no magician or scientist has ever been able to create or manipulate human birth. Additionally, many unparalleled wonders occurred during Jesus's birth, such as angels announcing his arrival to shepherds and a special star that led the wise men. Due to Jesus being born of the Holy Spirit without a human father, his bloodline was heavenly which allowed him to save humanity from sin. The incarnation of God in human form through Jesus's birth remains a profound mystery that cannot be explained through ordinary human means.
This document provides commentary on Jesus' first miracle of turning water into wine at a wedding in Cana according to the biblical account in John 2:1-12. It discusses cultural context of Jewish weddings, symbolism of the six stone water pots used in the miracle, and how Jesus' words and actions established his authority and divine identity apart from his earthly family relationships. The miracle served to meet a genuine need and prevent an embarrassing situation for the families, and prefigured the abundant blessings of Jesus' messianic kingdom to come.

The leaders then let them go as they could find no way to punish them due to the people supporting Peter and John.
The document discusses what makes a good servant based on two biblical examples. It says that Timothy served with a genuine interest in others' welfare, while Epaphroditus served unceasingly and did not want others to worry about him. It argues that both a good heart and good work are needed to be a good servant, and that servanthood must be desired and taught. It also warns of the risk of children of godly parents failing to follow their example due to neglect or bad influences.

This document discusses the origins and biblical basis of Christmas traditions. It argues that:
1) Jesus' birth is mentioned in the Bible but there is no command to celebrate it, and the Bible's focus is on the cross, not the manger.
2) Christmas traditions such as decorated trees and gift giving originated from pagan winter solstice festivals, not from the Bible.
3) Celebrating Christmas cannot truly honor Christ since it is a man-made tradition not founded or authorized in scripture.
4) While individuals can choose to observe days to the Lord, the church has no authority to add holidays beyond what is commanded in the Bible.
Appeal to the Archbishop of Canterbury for an Apology for the Sins of the Jam...Abundant Life Fellowship
The pastor of a small church in Virginia Beach wrote a lengthy letter to the Archbishop of Canterbury requesting an apology from the Church of England and British government for sins committed during the founding of the Jamestown colony in 1607. Specifically, the letter requests acknowledgment and apology for the mistreatment of Native Americans, African Americans, and others during the early colonial period. The pastor believes such an apology could help heal divisions and bring spiritual renewal to both America and Britain. He invites the Archbishop to deliver the apology in person or via letter at an upcoming religious conference in Virginia commemorating the 400th anniversary of the Jamestown colony's founding.

The Israelites were instructed to select a lamb without blemish on the 10th day of the first biblical month of Abib and slay it at twilight on the 14th. They were to smear some of its blood on the doorposts of their houses. That night, when the death angel passed through Egypt, the firstborn of every household without blood on the doorposts was killed, including the firstborn of Pharaoh. But God protected the Israelites in the houses marked with lamb's blood, delivering them from death. This first Passover foreshadowed Jesus Christ, the ultimate sinless "Lamb of God," whose blood would save believers from the death of sin.
This document outlines a daily and weekly Lenten program. The weekly focus is on honoring wedding vows. It emphasizes protecting one's spouse's vulnerability by not exploiting their faults. Honoring vows reflects Christ's sacrifice for the Church to present it as holy. The discussion questions focus on guarding marital purity and honoring one's spouse with speech.

The document discusses various views about the end times, prophecies, and the return of Christ. It cautions against those who claim to know exact details of prophecies and set dates, as the biblical standard for prophets is to be 100% correct. It notes many past failed predictions and commercial motives of some prophets. While some signs could point to the last days unfolding, the document advocates focusing on Jesus' own words about his return and comparing world events to biblical prophecies, rather than interpretations of cryptic symbols.

It discusses the key points that Peter makes about the return of Jesus, including that scoffers will deny it but God has intervened in history through events like the Flood. The sermon notes that Peter's letter serves as his "swan song" warning of coming apostasy. It outlines the chapter and explains that the day of the Lord will come suddenly for unbelievers but believers should not be surprised as they watch and wait in light of Christ's promise to return.
John writes a letter to a church and "the chosen lady and her children" whom he loves. He greets them with a blessing of grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Jesus Christ. He encourages them to walk in truth and love according to God's commandments. John warns of deceivers who do not acknowledge Jesus, and instructs the readers not to welcome or assist those who do not bring the true teaching.
Sabbath school lesson 11, 2nd quarter of 2017David Syahputra
Peter warns the early church about false teachers who will infiltrate and spread destructive teachings. These false teachers are motivated by greed and selfish desires. They promise freedom but instead lead people into bondage through licentious lifestyles and denying core Christian teachings. Peter cites examples from the Old Testament like Balaam who loved wealth over righteousness. Ultimately, those who follow these false teachers return to lives of sin, like a dog to its vomit, after experiencing truth. The epistle of Jude contains similar warnings about mockers and lustful people in the end times.
Fellowship refers to the shared spiritual bond and community between Christians. While some groups isolate themselves due to fears of mixing with those of different doctrinal views, the Bible shows that Jesus and the apostles fellowshipped with and welcomed all who came to them in faith, regardless of minor theological differences. The warnings in scripture about avoiding certain groups were directed at those preaching false gospels of works-salvation or denying core Christian teachings like the resurrection, not smaller interpretive disagreements. Christians are called to unity and fellowship based on our shared faith in Christ.
The apostle Paul would disagree with Prosperity Theology based on several biblical passages. Paul suffered greatly for spreading the gospel, as did other apostles and early Christians. Jesus and his disciples lived in poverty and humility. The Bible warns that wealth can become a snare and distract from God. True prosperity comes from God and should be used to help others and spread the gospel, not for personal gain.
In this lesson we consider 9 ways in which we can twist the Scriptures if we are not careful in studying the Scriptures.

This document provides a summary of a sermon given at First Baptist Church in Jackson, Mississippi on June 21, 2020. The sermon discusses two types of wisdom - worldly wisdom and heavenly wisdom - based on passages from Proverbs and James. Worldly wisdom is characterized by envy, selfish ambition, and leads to disorder, while heavenly wisdom from God is pure, peace-loving, merciful, and impartial. The sermon encourages applying heavenly wisdom to life.
This document discusses distinguishing between true and false prophets. It says that false prophets are numerous, indistinguishable externally, bear inappropriate or fake fruit, and are invalid Christians. False prophets appear like sheep but are inwardly ravenous wolves. One can discern them by their fruits, as a good tree bears good fruit but a bad tree bears bad fruit. The document warns that many will claim to have prophesied and performed miracles in Jesus' name, but he will declare that he never knew them.

This passage from Isaiah 58 discusses God's condemnation of empty worship rituals among his people that are not accompanied by righteous living and care for the oppressed. God explains that true worship requires loosening bonds of wickedness, sharing with the hungry, and clothing the naked. The prophet Isaiah lived during a time of rebuilding after the exile when the temple had been reconstructed but the city walls remained in ruins. God promises blessings of light, guidance, strength, and renewal for those who repent from sin and pursue justice. The sermon references other passages emphasizing that God desires mercy over sacrifice and that true salvation will come through God himself acting as righteous judge and redeemer through the coming Messiah.
This document provides a summary and analysis of Isaiah 58:1-12. It examines God's condemnation of hypocritical worship among his people, who were going through the motions of fasting and prayer but without true repentance or care for the oppressed. God explains that true worship requires acts of justice, mercy, and humility. The document places this passage in historical context during the post-exilic period when the temple had been rebuilt but Jerusalem's walls remained in disrepair. It concludes by connecting Isaiah's prophecy to the ultimate salvation God provides through Jesus Christ.
1) The document discusses Isaiah 53, which prophesies the coming of Jesus as the suffering servant who would bear the sins of humanity.
2) It analyzes various verses from Isaiah 53 that describe Jesus' humble upbringing, rejection, suffering, and death on the cross in fulfillment of these prophecies.
3) The author argues that the chapter paints a clear picture of Jesus and his redemptive work, though some Jewish people did not accept that it referred to him.
This document provides an analysis and commentary on Isaiah 53:1-12. It discusses how this passage prophesies Jesus as the suffering servant who would bear the sins of humanity. Some key points made include: Jewish people historically did not believe Isaiah 53 referred to Jesus as they were expecting a conquering messiah; the passage depicts the servant as having no beauty or majesty and being despised and rejected; it describes how he would bear our sorrows and be wounded for our transgressions so that through his suffering we can be healed. The document analyzes various verses in depth to draw connections between the prophecy and Jesus' life and crucifixion.
The document provides an overview and analysis of Isaiah 49:1-13. It summarizes that:
1) The passage promises comfort for God's people and the coming of a Messiah who will be a servant and bring salvation to all nations.
2) Jesus fulfills the prophecies as the suffering servant who is called and named by God from birth to be a light to the Gentiles.
3) The passage prophesies that the servant will be rejected but later worshipped, establish a new covenant, and guide God's people to salvation.
1) The document provides an overview and analysis of Isaiah 49:1-13 from a Sunday school lesson. It examines how this passage prophesies comfort for God's people through a coming servant Messiah and how Jesus fulfills this prophecy.
2) Key points include how Isaiah 49 promises a Messiah who will bring salvation for Israel and all nations, depicted as a servant who is named and empowered by God.
3) The document analyzes how Jesus fulfills this prophecy by being God's chosen servant who is rejected by men but brings salvation, being made a light to the Gentiles and worshipped by all through his death and resurrection.
This document contains the summary of a sermon given at First Baptist Church in Jackson, Mississippi. It discusses Isaiah 46:3-13, focusing on God's care for his people and how he alone is worthy of worship unlike idols. It includes quotes from the Bible passage and hymns like "His Eye is on the Sparrow" to illustrate the theme that God watches over and protects believers.
This document provides a summary of a Sunday school class discussion on putting God first in all things and trusting in His care. It includes summaries of Bible passages from Isaiah, Psalms, and Matthew discussing not worshipping idols and trusting that God watches over His people. The hymn "His Eye is on the Sparrow" is analyzed, inspired by verses on God caring for even sparrows. The class discussed how tragedies can humble us and that God saves those who recognize their need.
God instructs Isaiah to comfort God's people with three messages: 1) God is sovereign and in control, even during difficult times. 2) God will fulfill his purposes, such as forgiving Israel and sending a Redeemer. 3) God will sustain his people, though all humanity is transitory except God's eternal word. The prophecy looks forward to Israel's restoration after the coming exile.
The document provides an overview of a Sunday school lesson on Isaiah 40. It discusses the historical context during Isaiah's time, the message of comfort God instructed Isaiah to provide to Judah facing exile, and how this message still applies today. The lesson focuses on how Isaiah conveyed that God is sovereign, will fulfill his purposes, and sustain his people. It also provides biblical references on God's comfort and plan of salvation through Jesus Christ.
The document provides an overview and summary of Isaiah 34-39 from a sermon given at First Baptist Church in Jackson, Mississippi. It discusses the historical context involving King Hezekiah of Judah rebelling against Assyria, the confrontation with Rabshakeh representing Sennacherib, Hezekiah's prayer to God, and God's response promising to defend Jerusalem for his own sake and for David. Key themes are God hearing and answering prayer, defeating the enemies of his people, and bringing hope and salvation.
The document provides a summary of Isaiah 34-39 from a Sunday School class. It discusses the historical context involving King Hezekiah of Judah rebelling against the Assyrian king Sennacherib in 701 BC. It describes the Rabshakeh threatening Jerusalem on behalf of Sennacherib, and Hezekiah praying to God for deliverance. God responds through Isaiah, promising to deliver Jerusalem and put a spirit in Sennacherib so he returns to his own land.
Isaiah 31 discusses God's promise to protect Israel and Judah if they trust in Him rather than forming alliances with other nations like Egypt. It warns that those who seek protection from Egypt will be put to shame, as the Egyptians are merely mortal while God is all-powerful. The chapter promises that God will come down to defend Jerusalem from Assyria, represented as a lion, and will shield and deliver His people. It calls the Israelites to repent and return to God to receive His protection.
The document provides an overview and analysis of Isaiah 31. It summarizes that the chapter warns Israel and Judah against forming an alliance with Egypt and relying on Egyptian horses and chariots for protection against Assyria. While Egypt can provide military strength, God promises to protect Jerusalem himself. The chapter exhorts the people to repent from idolatry and return to trusting God for their defense. It prophesies that Assyria will fall not by human hands but by the sword of God in response to their threats against Judah.
God will judge the earth and its inhabitants for their sins and breaking God's covenant. This judgement is described in Isaiah 24-27 and referred to as Isaiah's Apocalypse. However, God also has a plan for salvation and will deliver the remnant of people from the ends of the earth who worship him. Ultimately, God will reign eternally in Jerusalem and provide salvation for all people through his son Jesus Christ.
God will judge the earth and its inhabitants for their sin and breaking of His covenant. Isaiah 24-27 discusses this coming judgement, including how God will devastate the earth and punish both earthly kings and the hosts of heaven. However, it also promises ultimate salvation and a banquet for all people on God's holy mountain when He defeats death. The passage encourages believers that though judgement is coming, God has a plan for hope and salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.
This document provides a summary and analysis of Isaiah 23:1-18. It discusses Tyre's historical relationship with Israel as an important Phoenician seaport city. God prophesied Tyre's destruction through Nebuchadnezzar and Alexander the Great because of the city's pride. The prophecy warns that no place, including Cyprus, will provide rest for Tyre's inhabitants. It also foretells that Tyre will be forgotten for 70 years but trade will slowly resume. The document applies lessons about God's sovereignty over nations and his hatred of pride.
The document provides commentary on Isaiah 23, which prophesies the destruction of the Phoenician city of Tyre. It discusses Tyre's history and relationship with Israel, highlighting its pride and role in commerce and idolatry. The commentary explains how Tyre was destroyed multiple times according to prophecies by Isaiah and Ezekiel, and applies lessons about God's sovereignty over nations.

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375

Introduction to 2 Peter 2: (Lessons from 2 Peter 1)
1. God has given us everything we need for life in knowing Jesus.
2. God has given us everything we need about knowing Jesus in the Bible.
3. You have everything you need because you participate in His divine
nature.
4. In Jesus, you escape the corruption from evil desires.
5. Sin is now the enemy and not your master.
Introduction to 2 Peter 2
• 2 Peter 1 is about “all the good” you have because of Christ and
describes the “True Christian”.
• 2 Peter 2 is all about “Counterfeit Christianity”.
• Alongside truth you will find error.
• Alongside genuine you will find counterfeit.
• Alongside wheat you will find the weeds (tares).
• Your eternal destiny is either heaven or hell.
Lesson Outline
• The 7 characteristics of a false teacher or Counterfeit Christian.
• Applications of these characteristics.
• How do I know if I am a real Christian?
• (The mark of a true Christian according to Peter.)
• The outcome for Counterfeit Christians and for True Christians.
2 Peter 2:1 NIV
1 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false
teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even
denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on
themselves.
3. Peter knows about denying the Lord
• This was probably a hard statement for Peter to write.
• Even though Peter denied Christ 3 times, he was not a false teacher or a
“Counterfeit Christian”.
• Peter’s denial was a sin that was forgiven by Christ.
• “Counterfeit Christians” can become “True Believers”.
• We should pray for the salvation of false teachers.
2 Peter 2:2-3 NIV
2 Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into
disrepute. 3 In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have
made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their
destruction has not been sleeping.
Jude 16-23 NIV
16 These men are grumblers and faultfinders; they follow their own evil desires;
they boast about themselves and flatter others for their own advantage.
17 But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold.
18 They said to you, "In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their
own ungodly desires." 19 These are the people who divide you, who follow mere
natural instincts and do not have the Spirit.
20 But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in
the Holy Spirit. 21 Keep yourselves in God's love as you wait for the mercy of our
Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.
22 Be merciful to those who doubt; 23 snatch others from the fire and save them; to
others show mercy, mixed with fear—hating even the clothing stained by
corrupted flesh.
Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing
4. Jesus’ words about false teachers
Matthew 7:15-17 NIV
15 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but
inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do
people pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise, every
good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot
bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not
bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will
recognize them.
7 Traits of False Teachers (Counterfeit Christians)
1. Different Source – Where does the message come from?
• True Christian
2 Peter 1:16
16 For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about
the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses
of his majesty.
• False Teachers
2 Peter 2:3
3 In their greed these teachers will exploit you with fabricated stories.
• The false teacher relies on his own creativity and not God’s word.
• The Bible is viewed without authority and not the source of truth.
• They make the Bible fit their theology and lifestyle.
2. Different Message – What is the substance of the message?
• True Christian
2 Peter 1:3 NIV
3 His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life
through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and
goodness.
• False Teacher
2 Peter 2:1b NIV
1b They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the
sovereign Lord who bought them —bringing swift destruction on
themselves.
• They secretly introduce heresy.
• Movement away from the centrality of Christ is subtle.
• The false teacher will speak about how other people can help
change your life, and Jesus is not essential to his message.
5. 7 Traits of False Teachers (Counterfeit Christians)
3. Different Position – In what position will the message leave you?
• True Christian
2 Peter 1:4c NIV
4c having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
• False Teacher
2 Peter 2:19 NIV
19 They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of
depravity—for "people are slaves to whatever has mastered them."
• The true believer is escaping corruption, but the counterfeit believer
is mastered by it.
• 2 Peter 2:13b, c
13b, c Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are
blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with
you.
4. Different Character – What kind of people does the message produce?
• True Christian
2 Peter 1:5-7 NIV
5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness;
and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to
self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to
godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.
• False Teacher
2 Peter 2:10, 14 NIV
10 This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the
sinful nature and despise authority. Bold and arrogant, they are not
afraid to slander celestial beings;
14 With eyes full of adultery, they never stop sinning; they seduce the
unstable; they are experts in greed—an accursed brood!
5. Different Appeal – Why should you listen to the message?
• True Christian
2 Peter 1:19 NIV
19 And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you
will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place,
until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
• The true teacher appeals to Scripture.
6. 5. Different Appeal – Why should you listen to the message?
• False Teacher
2 Peter 2:18 NIV
18 For they mouth empty, boastful words and, by appealing to the lustful
desires of sinful human nature, they entice people who are just
escaping from those who live in error.
• The false teacher asks, “What do people want to hear? What will
appeal to their flesh?”
• They adapt the church to the culture.
6. Different Fruit – How does the message affect people’s lives?
• True Christian
2 Peter 1:8 NIV
8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep
you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our
Lord Jesus Christ.
• The true believer is effective and productive.
• False Teacher
2 Peter 2:17 NIV
17 These men are springs without water and mists driven by a storm.
• The false teachers promise much but produce little.
• Their teachings are not soul nurturing but shallow and teach you to
live for your own pleasure.
• Their teachings change with the times.
7. Different End –Where does the message ultimately lead you?
• True Christian
2 Peter 1:11 NIV
11 and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
• Your citizenship is in heaven, not on earth.
• False Teacher
2 Peter 2:1c, 3b
1c bringing swift destruction on themselves.
3b Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their
destruction has not been sleeping.
• They do not realize the path of destruction they are on.
• They live like there is no tomorrow.
7. Who are these people? Jesus’ answer.
Matthew 7:21-23 NIV
21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven,
but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to
me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your
name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23 Then I will tell them
plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'
How do we apply the warning of false teachers among us?
2 Peter 2:1 NIV
1 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false
teachers among you.
• Don’t be naïve! They are among you!
1. The church needs to be protected.
2. The existence of the counterfeit is never a good reason to reject the
genuine.
1. The church needs to be protected.
• Satan will plant counterfeit believers among us and we must be alert.
(Parable of wheat and weeds)
• They have religious interests, but a different message.
• Examine their message using the 7 characteristics.
• They must be welcomed, but have no influence.
• Pray for them to accept the true Gospel of Jesus.
The Parable of the wheat and weeds
Matthew 13:24-26 NIV
24 Jesus told them another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like a man
who sowed good seed in his field. 25 But while everyone was sleeping, his
enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away.
26 When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also
appeared.
• Satan will plant counterfeit Christians and false teachers among
believers.
2. The existence of the counterfeit is never a good reason to reject the
genuine.
• Some use the excuse of Christians being hypocrites for their reason to
reject Christ.
• Peter tells us that there will be counterfeit Christians in Churches
because we are in a fallen world.
• Don’t miss out on what is real when you have seen counterfeits.
8. According to Peter, how do you know if your or someone else’s Christianity is
real?
• It is a hidden mark you cannot see in other people.
• Do Not make judgments of others about this criteria.
• You can only know it for yourself with Peter’s test.
• Lot is the example according to Peter.
The example of Lot – a righteous man.
2 Peter 2:7-8 NIV
7 and if he (God) rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the filthy
lives of lawless men 8 (for that righteous man, living among them day after day,
was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard) —
• Lot described as righteous 3 times.
• Lot was righteous because he was “distressed over the sins of the people
around him”.
What is the mark of a righteous man in an unrighteous world?
• Godly (righteous) people are distressed over sin in the world around them
and their own sin.
• The distinguishing mark for Lot was not that Lot was without sin, but that he
was distressed over his own sin and the sins of others.
• If you are distressed (in sorrow) over the sin around you, that is a defining
mark of your righteousness.
How do “Counterfeit Christians” view their own sin and the sin of others?
• They find a way to accommodate sin in their own life, to live with it, to get
comfortable with it, to justify it and to see it as the way of the world.
• 2 Peter 2:22
22 Of them (unrighteous) the proverbs are true: "A dog returns to its vomit,"
and, "A sow that is washed goes back to her wallowing in the mud."
• The unrighteous keeps returning to his sin and change is only temporary.
9. The Counterfeit Christian is worse off now than if they never knew about Jesus.
2 Peter 2:20-21 NIV
20 If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and are overcome, they are
worse off at the end than they were at the beginning. 21 It would have been
better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known
it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to
them.
The “Counterfeit Christian’s” Judgment.
• You are judged by what you did with what you knew.
• Greater revelation has greater accountability.
• Did you accept the truth or reject and counterfeit the truth of the Gospel?
• Every time the Gospel of Jesus is preached, you are either softened and
come nearer to Christ or you are not affected and another layer of
hardness is placed over your life.
How does God deal with the unrighteous and the godly in 2 Peter 2?
2 Peter 2:4-7a, 9-10 NIV
4 For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting
them in chains of darkness to be held for judgment; 5 if he did not spare the
ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected
Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others; 6 if he condemned the
cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an
example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; 7a and if he rescued Lot,
9 if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold
the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment, while continuing their
punishment. 10 This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the
flesh and despise authority.
Summary of what happens to the unrighteous and the godly.
• The Unrighteous
• Sent to hell, burned to ashes.
• God is holding them for more punishment on the day of judgment.
• The Godly
• God protected Noah, God rescued Lot and God rescues the godly
from trials.
10. What can we learn from the examples of sinning angels (demons), Noah and
Lot?
1. The Lord knows how to rescue godly people from trials (2 Peter 2:9).
• This is your promise for whatever you face this week.
• Your distress over your sins and the sin around you is a mark of
God’s grace in your life.
2. God knows how to hold the unrighteous while continuing their punishment
(2 Peter 2:9).
• There is worse to come for the unrighteous at the judgment.
Closing Scripture – A Benediction Prayer.
Jude 24-25 ESV
24 Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you
blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, 25 to the only God, our
Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority,
before all time and now and forever. Amen.

Revelation 21:8.
Revelation 21:8 ESV

8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for
us.

be my son.”
Romans 10:9-10 explains to us how to be conquerors.
Romans 10:9-10 ESV
9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your
heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart
one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
Romans 10:13 ESV
13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
