Students and staff at several Catholic schools in the UK organized various fundraising activities for CAFOD's Harvest Fast Day and Pakistan Appeal, raising over £1,000 in total. Activities included students making money from £1, a raffle with different meal prizes, leg waxing, bake sales, sponsored activities like running and silence, and 'famine lunches' where students paid to eat simple, limited meals to experience hunger. The events aimed to both support those in need and help students understand poverty.

1. Students at All Saints Catholic College in Huddersfield did different Harvest Fast Day activities based on making £10 from £1. Peter Hill, CAFOD local rep, collected a cheque for more than £1,000. Good job All Saints! All Saints, Huddersfield

2. St Benedict’s High School hosted a “Rich Man, Poor Man” meal. Pupils entered a raffle and most received a soup and bread lunch. The five winners gained not only a tasty pizza and ice-cream meal, but also a sense of how lucky they truly are. St Benedict’s, Ealing

3. Leg waxing in support of the Pakistan Appeal, at St Mary’s Catholic College, Blackpool. Ouch, you are a star, well done! An endurance test!

4. Members of the newly formed Loreto High School Justice and Peace group put their baking skills to the test in aid of CAFOD. The group’s Bake Sale raised £120.35 for our work. Our thanks goes to everyone involved. Loreto High, Chorlton

5. King Henry VIII School in Coventry held a series of sponsored activities including a 24 hour silence, a 10km run, bake sales and boys’ leg waxing (ouch!). They bought CAFOD World Gifts including a community water supply, a pair of piglets and a goat. Well done everyone! Sixth formers in Coventry

6. ‘ Enough for All' activity days were attended by Y10 pupils from eight secondary schools in Nottingham diocese. Participants examined CAFOD’s Act on Poverty campaign and looked at the obstacles to aid reaching people in need, and listened to a talk by a former Prime Minister of Haiti. Nottingham Diocese

7. 11 year-old Rachael Doherty makes and sells her own greetings cards using recycled cards. She has raised several hundred pounds for CAFOD and contributed towards a trip for a member of her church to help build a medical centre in Africa. She hopes her story inspires others. Go Rachael! 8. The Chaplaincy team at Holy Family Catholic School in Keighley organised a school “famine lunch” in support of the Pakistan Appeal. Diners paid a minimum one pound in return for soup and a roll. Well done team! Holy Family, Keighley

9. At harvest, Our Lady’s Catholic High held a concert by staff as well as a simple lunch. At the lunch, students chose to eat from a reduced menu of soup and a roll or a sandwich.
