The document summarizes a research proposal for a graduate student's final project. The student proposes researching how to design an annotation system for professional blogs that uses spatial principles related to physical behaviors to facilitate interpreting hypertext narratives. The research questions examine how annotation systems can support various reading purposes and behaviors, allow juxtaposing different opinions, represent the passage of time, and use spatial viewpoints. Next steps are further research and developing an annotated bibliography.

In this workshop, we will develop and identify key goals of our Graduate Design Network. We will brainstorm together to generate lots of ideas. We will affinity diagram to organize and categorize ideas.
Each workshop will address one of the 4 domains:
Value of Graduate Programs
Future Generations/Legacy
Relationship between Practice & Academia
Inter-institutional Relationships.
Workshop 2: Speed dating + Rapid Modeling and Diagramming = Purpose StatementAlexandria Jarvis
In this workshop, we will create purpose statements for our network through writing, speed dating, and making. We will begin by jotting down ideas that will be visualized during dates. We will refine writing in response to what is made.

Ontology Evaluation Methods and Metrics - This is work I did while I was at The MITRE Corporation. I came up with a framework to support ontology evaluation for reuse that could also be used for ontology construction. I was the sole author of the approach, which was intended to begin a research program and a community of practice around it. It's been on hold and would like that to change. I'm now at the Tetherless World Constellation at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, if interested contact me there.
Semiotics of Interaction: Towards a UI AlphabetJan Brejcha
In our thinking and acting, natural language plays a central part. This language defines a structure even before we form something, and it can be regarded as the architecture of design. To be able to grasp the expression of these structures in HCI, we chose the perspective of linguistics and semiotics. The semiotics perspective in the context of HCI is increasingly popular in presenting a different approach to UX. In our paper, we take this perspective to build a set of semiotic heuristics which we then used to evaluate a complex UI example. We present a semiotic evaluation method and report the results of our in-depth investigation.
