Delhi became the new capital of India in 1911 when King George V visited and announced the change. This marked the 100th anniversary of Delhi serving as India's capital. Some important places from Delhi's first 100 years as capital include the Delhi Durbar site where King George made the announcement, India Gate built to honor soldiers who died in World War I, the Jama Masjid mosque, Qutub Minar tower built in the late 12th century, and the Red Fort which symbolizes India. The Viceroy's House, now called Rashtrapati Bhavan, was also constructed in 1911 to serve as the official residence for the British viceroy.
