ž  Our
goal is to arm interested citizens with
the knowledge that will enable them to grow
their own food and, in turn, help their
  neighbors do the same.

ž  Ourfirst benchmark is to work to get 1,000
  friends, neighbors, community centers, etc
to grow their own food. ~250 per year
(Is 1,000 too modest a goal?)
ž  “Backyard Farming” is:
¡  Any amount of personal food growth
¡  Gardening, in your yard or windowsill, in large
raised beds or in small containers
¡  Small space gardening, container gardening,
      square foot gardening, micro-farming….
¡  It is fun and immensely rewarding
¡  Tastes great, is healthier & safer and provides variety
¡  It is educational!
¡  Saves you trips to the grocery store - saving you time
    and money!
¡  Increases self-sufficiency
¡  Communities save by keeping production and
    consumption local
¡  Others?
ž  Thereare examples throughout the country
of communities coming together to grow
their own food and to share that food locally
  with neighbors and other community
  members

The city of Albuquerque is trying to get 2012 new gardens by 2012. Their
mission is to help new gardeners learn how to grow fruits and vegetables
in their backyards and on their terraces.  They want to see growing
nutritious food become possible for everyone.
