After the production companies are shown there is a non-diegetic piece of music which begins. It is called My
Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion. The music is slow, relaxing and very emotional which hints at what the film is
going to be. The beginning shots are edited to look as if it’s some old footage, or from someone’s memory. This is
in the past and this indicates we’re going to find out their future. The opening credits reveal themselves again in
white, making it stand out. In the shots you see the people on the ship and people on land waving to each other
merrily. There is no diegetic sound to accompany them but from their body language and facial expressions you
can tell their spirits are high, this is a contrast to the music being sad and mellow.
Between each shot there is a cross fade which continues the joy shown and doesn’t break it up with a sharp cut. It
also allows a smooth flow between each transition. The title ‘TITANIC’ is presented largely and centred in front of a
deep blue sea where the reflection is used in a graphic match for the next shot which introduces a submarine.
There are diegetic noises of the water as the submarine nears and there is a beeping noise which reminds me of
something you would see on a grid locating something. The non-diegetic music continues until the submarine is
almost out of sight. This is the first two minutes.
