This part of the final project is a summary of your ongoing work on the final paper; it should include three paragraphs, one covering each selected work. You should also make sure to re-state what your subject is.

The Three Categories of Orchestral Instruments
The orchestra is a large, organized group of musicians who perform a broad variety of
musical works, such as symphonies, concertos, or more recently, soundtracks. For someone who
is not well acquainted with orchestral instruments, it can be confusing to attend an orchestra
concert and see so many musicians playing on various instruments across the stage. Paul
Mathews, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Johns Hopkins’ Peabody Conservatory, writes
that the orchestra can be viewed as a “human organism,” so that “the strings form the nervous
system…the brass and woodwind form the blood system under its double classification of
arteries and veins, and finally the percussion instruments form the lymphatic system” (93). Of
the several ways orchestral instruments could be classified, arguably the clearest divisions fall
into three groups by evaluation of melodic importance and instrumental similarity: strings, brass
and woodwinds, and percussion.
Stringed instruments form the largest and most important instrument group within the
orchestra—“more than half,” according to David Ewen (381). The string sections are truly the
core of the orchestra and tend to carry the melodic line most frequently. In fact, some musical
pieces are written only for string orchestra, meaning only these instruments are used. A viewer
will recognize them surrounding the conductor in a semi-circle arrangement on stage, including
violins, violas, cellos, double basses, and harps. All of these instruments possess fine strings
stretched over or across wood to create sound, giving them a striking similarity to the range and

Fill in all the details you can identify from the story or poem and add details that you find plausible and that connect to the plot. Write a paragraph that explains how place functions in your story. How is it important? Symbolic? Thematic? You will likely need to be able to scan in your work for this project or submit a photo file.
Choice 3: Draw a Collection of Pieces of Art
Draw a collection of pieces of art and record a talk that reflects upon how the pieces (a minimum of three) connect to the literature. Make sure that you can locate five or more points of connections in each piece of art. (Some ideas: the black and white images represent the piano Sonny played; the cross that has fallen on the floor represents Grace, the child who has died.) The drawings can be realistic or symbolic. You do not need to be an excellent artist to complete.

The Three Categories of Orchestral Instruments
The orchestra is a large, organized group of musicians who perform a broad variety of
musical works, such as symphonies, concertos, or more recently, soundtracks. For someone who
is not well acquainted with orchestral instruments, it can be confusing to attend an orchestra
concert and see so many musicians playing on various instruments across the stage. Paul
Mathews, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Johns Hopkins’ Peabody Conservatory, writes
that the orchestra can be viewed as a “human organism,” so that “the strings form the nervous
system…the brass and woodwind form the blood system under its double classification of
arteries and veins, and finally the percussion instruments form the lymphatic system” (93). Of
the several ways orchestral instruments could be classified, arguably the clearest divisions fall
into three groups by evaluation of melodic importance and instrumental similarity: strings, brass
and woodwinds, and percussion.
Stringed instruments form the largest and most important instrument group within the
orchestra—“more than half,” according to David Ewen (381). The string sections are truly the
core of the orchestra and tend to carry the melodic line most frequently. In fact, some musical
pieces are written only for string orchestra, meaning only these instruments are used. A viewer
will recognize them surrounding the conductor in a semi-circle arrangement on stage, including
violins, violas, cellos, double basses, and harps. All of these instruments possess fine strings
stretched over or across wood to create sound, giving them a striking similarity to the range and

Fargo and Town Manager Harlow are on a slippery slope to corruption. I think that Harlow is handling her position the correct way by trying to remain neutral and sticking to a code of ethics so the problem really comes down to the political actors in the town. It is good that Harlow declined the invite to the dinner party, and cracked down on employees playing politics at work, that is a step in the right direction to removing the possibility of political corruption.

At the end of the article Harlow remembers another city manager saying “you never have more authority than the day you walk into your office” What I get from that, and what I think Harlow got from that is that when you come into a position as a public manager everyone is going to want something from you. Political actors are going to want political favors, quid pro quos, you have something that everyone else wants and they are going to try and get that from you.

I think the best thing to do would be to continue to try to remain neutral. It will always be impossible to please absolutely everybody so the best thing to do is try to avoid doing everything everyone asks and stick to some sort of code of ethics.

You can also pick famous places or peoples: Sparta, Thermopylae, Spartans
Or, you may even pick adjectives derived from names: Laconic, Platonic, etc.
Don’t get stuck on your first choice. After you run a few searches, you may choose to pick a different
one that has more interesting or more substantial material.
For Option 1, go to the New Yorker website (http://www.newyorker.com/search) and search for the
term. Chose 3 articles for analysis. These articles must have been written in your lifetime. At least
one must have been published in the last 12 months. You may not chose book, theatre, or art reviews;

Fargo and Town Manager Harlow are on a slippery slope to corruption. I think that Harlow is handling her position the correct way by trying to remain neutral and sticking to a code of ethics so the problem really comes down to the political actors in the town. It is good that Harlow declined the invite to the dinner party, and cracked down on employees playing politics at work, that is a step in the right direction to removing the possibility of political corruption.

At the end of the article Harlow remembers another city manager saying “you never have more authority than the day you walk into your office” What I get from that, and what I think Harlow got from that is that when you come into a position as a public manager everyone is going to want something from you. Political actors are going to want political favors, quid pro quos, you have something that everyone else wants and they are going to try and get that from you.

I think the best thing to do would be to continue to try to remain neutral. It will always be impossible to please absolutely everybody so the best thing to do is try to avoid doing everything everyone asks and stick to some sort of code of ethics.

I think the overarching theme of this article is that people are going to want things from the government. I agree with Harlow's steps to avoid political corruption in her administration by cracking down on political favors with the snow plows and referring to the ICMA code of ethics.

By way of some context, this photo was taken in 2016 at a protest rally in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The woman in the photo is named Ieshia Evans. The photographer is named Jonathan Bachman. Bachman's photo, which was first published by Reuters, was a finalist for a Pulitzer Prize in 2017. You can use this information to do more research on the image, if you like.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic Imperative
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Step One: Watch both of these videos: The Greatest Theater and Music and Creativity in Ancient Greece Step Two: Do some more research online on Aristotle and Plato’s ideas about music as briefly discussed above.
