1. 1 DIGESTION:
• When you eat you chew the food in your
mouth. The food mixes with saliva so it is
easier to swallow. The food now is called
bolus.
• Then, the food travels down the pharynx
and oesophagus into the stomach.
• The stomach is like a mixer. It has three
important jobs:
1. To store food
2. To mix food with gastric juices,
forming a thick liquid called
chyme.
3. To empty the food into the small
intestine
2 ABSORTION:
All the minerals, vitamins, carbohydrates,
proteins and fats are absorbed into the blood in
the small intestine.
The small intestine is about 7 metres long!
The gallbladder, pancreas and liver help the
small intestine sending juices
3 ELIMINATION OF WASTE
Indigested substances, called like fibre form a
milky fluid called chyle that passes to the large
intestine. The large intestine forms the faeces
that are expelled through the anus.
