This document provides a weekly newsletter update for 1-63 AR soldiers and families with information about upcoming events at Fort Riley from April 11-30, 2013. It includes notices about training schedules, town hall meetings, recreational activities, volunteer opportunities, and more. Key dates and events mentioned are the town hall meetings on April 23-24, mega bingo on April 20, fishing day on April 20, and the month of the military child festival on April 21.

Noise and Training Advisory for April 11 - 21, 2013.
Scheduled training from April 11-12 has the potential for significant noise during all hours. Training slated for April 13-14 is NOT
expected to cause significant noise.
Scheduled training from April 15-19 has the potential for significant noise during all hours, including the potential for intermittent
aircraft noise. Training slated for April 20-21 is NOT expected to cause significant noise.
1-63 CAB Town Hall Meeting 23-24 April 2012 6pm Morris Hill Chapel. Topics will cover information to
prepare Soldiers and Families for the upcoming mission to Africa. Command representative will be there to
answer questions.
Spouses are highly encouraged to attend!

20 April Mega Bingo: @ Rally Point -Its back again this year MEGA BINGO! Open to all DoD card
holders and up to 5 guests, must be ages 16+ to play. Must have a minimum of 75 participants to
play or game will be canceled with full refund. Doors open at 12pm, Bingo starts at 2pm. Tickets
$75 advance, $100 at door. See flyer below.

2. Have you registered the kiddos to Youth T-Ball, Baseball, Softball?

20 April Ft Riley Kids Fishing Day: 8am-12pm Moon Lake, Ft Riley FREE Admission, Age 15 and
under (age 16 and up are welcome to fish but are required to have a Kansas Fishing license).

Sunday, April 21 Month of the Military Child Festival on Noon-3pm on the grounds of the
Forsyth CDCs! We’ll have face painting, photo booth, arts & crafts, train rides, and even a
special appearance from Captain America and your favorite mascots! Everything is free,
including food and drinks!
22 April Ft Riley Environmental Division Day: 3rd Annual Household Hazardous Waste
Collection Event and Documents Shred Day Prizes and gifts will be given away located at Bldg
2210 (New Post Exchange) from 8am-2pm. See the flyer below for more details of what you
can get rid of for household hazardous waste and documents to shred.

3. 24 April Newcomer’s Welcome At Quarters 1: Open to all First Infantry Division Spouses All
Ranks Newcomers Welcome and for anyone new to the 1ID since September 2012 who have
arrived here at Ft Riley. It will be held on Wednesday, April 24th 10am-12pm at Quarters One
on Barry Ave Historic Main Post (Home of Major General and Mrs. Mayville). RSVP by April

24 April Administrative Professionals Day: Riley’s Conference Center hosting a Administrative
Professionals Day Lunch Buffet from 11am-1pm for $10.95. Show your administrative
professional that you appreciate them with a lunch. See flyer below.
27 April Flag Football Tournament: 10am Sturgis Football Stadium single elimination; $50 a
team, Free to active Duty 14 players per team, open to all DOD cardholders 18 years of age

April 28th 2013 Beastie Ballyhoo! Manhattan City Park 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Free fun for the whole family including Children and Pets: Our aim is to honor the importance of
pets in the lives of children, and to demonstrate key principles of proper and humane treatment
of animals...all structured within events intended to provide fun for the entire family.
27 April K-State Kid Cheer Cheerleading Camp: K-State is hosting their annual cheerleading
cheer camp on Saturday, April 27th 9am-11:30am at their indoor Football Facility (located
southwest of Bramlage Coliseum) for Kindergarten-6th grade (boys and girls) cost $40 per
camper. Deadline to register Friday, April 19th. See flyer below.

4. 29 April Resilient Spouse Academy: Registration deadline is 10 days prior to event. FREE
childcare available upon request. Classes are held in Bldg 7285 Normandy Dr. For more details

30 April Mrs. Shand Mayville Farewell: Open to all Spouses on Ft Riley who would like to bid
farewell to Mrs. Shand Mayville on April 30th at 6:30pm at Riley’s Conference Center. More

The Sound of Music April 12-14, and 19-21 at The Columbian Theatre! Starring an amazing

April 26 Fort Riley Marina set to open Renters can get a card after taking a boating safety class. The class is
available through the Outdoor Recreation Center. For more information about the boating safety class, call
785-239-2363.
The marina also offers 20 new primitive camping spots for Families to enjoy this season. Each campground
includes a fire ring and a picnic table. For more information, call the marina at 785-463-5253 or 785-

April 25, 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Prescription Drug Take-Back Day will be observed locally at the PX. The
day is specifically set aside to allow an opportunity to empty medicine cabinets, kitchen drawers, purses
and pillboxes of unwanted, unused and expired prescription drugs, and take them to authorized collection
sites in local communities.

5. Ft Riley American Red Cross: The Fort Riley American Red Cross will be offering a Dental
Assistant program from May 6 through November. The program will provide instruction in
basic and advanced dental assisting skills, to include four-hand assisting in operative dentistry,
specialized assisting skills in oral surgery, endodontic, periodontic and prosthodontic.
Those interested in participating in the program can contact the American Red Cross office at
785-239-1887 to get more information and to pick up an application packet.
Applications are available between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 1 at Grimes Hall next to the Garrison
Headquarters. Applications need to be returned by close of business April 19. Applicants must
be a military ID card holder and have graduated from high school. Interviews will take place
the week of April 23.

GoArmyEd portal used by Soldiers to request tuition assistance is now available again. *This
will allow Soldiers to request tuition assistance for the remainder of Fiscal Year 2013. For the
balance of FY13, the eligibility rules for use of TA, the $250 semester hour cap and the annual
ceiling of $4,500 remain unchanged. For more information, visit www.goarmyed.com.
Sunset Zoo: 4th Friday of the month at 10:00 A.M. ZOOfari Tails is a collaborative story time
with Sunset Zoo staff and children's librarians featuring animal-themed stories

6. Volunteer Opportunities –See Flyer below during the Month of the Military Child for April and
in May Run for the Fallen, Military Spouse Appreciation!
Saturday, April 27th, from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Bike Helmet Fair at Susan B. Anthony Middle
School. In Manhattan. The fair will include FREE bike helmets for children 15 and younger,
bike inspections, safe ride courses, and more! For more information, see the flyer below and

Volunteer Opportunity- MILITARY SPOUSE APPRECIAITON DAY Fashion Show- Special Events needs 20-
25 men or women (preferably no children as they are planning a back to school show as well). Email or
call Caité Kendrick, Recreation Programmer, Special Events @ 785.239.8990 or email:
caitlin.a.kendrick@us.army.mil so she can get your information and confirm that you are available for all
of the times needed for this event. Please CC: Becky Willis @ becky.d.willis.civ@mail.mil as she is the
AVCC for Fort Riley and will be tracking progress on this event. Fitting appointments will be scheduled for
the week of 22-26 APR by calling 785-784-2026 ext 200 and asking for Amaryllis. There will be a dress
rehearsal on Thursday 9 MAY at 1700-1800. The day of the show they will need to arrive at about 1500
and be available until 1800. (show will run 1700-1800).
Friends of the Library Gift Basket Drawing to be Held April 20.- The Friends of the Dorothy Bramlage Public Library's Gift
Basket Drawing is now underway at the library. In it local businesses, organizations and Friends members have donated
more than $2,000 worth of merchandise, coupons and certificates for the creation of twenty gift baskets. Those who enter
will have the opportunity to win the baskets of their choice when the drawing takes place on the evening of April 20 at the
annual Friends Fiesta.
