5. HMD의 발전과정
1966년에 최초로 MIT의 서더랜드(Sutherland)
가 두 개의 CRT와 를 반투명 거울을 이용한
HMD를 개발.
그 이후 '벨 헬리콥터'라는 회사에서 카메라를
이용한 증강현실 시스템을 실험, 거기에서 탄생
한게 적외선을 이용한 것이 나이트 고걸이다.
이는 사용자의 머리가 돌아가는 것을 인식, 따
라 움직이며 조종사에게 야간 시야를 제공한 것
으로 HMD을 무기체계에 응용한 사례
6. HMD의 연결케이블
HMD는 연결케이블이 가장 중요한 역할을 가지
는데 이는 두가지 경우가있다.
첫번째경우 메인장치가 소형화 돼 헤드셋에 내
장된다면
케이블은 단순히 신호입력 역할만 하게되므로
그리 큰 문제가 되지는 않는다.
하지만 이경우 컨트롤 장치가 머리부위에 위치
하게 되므로 헤드셋의 무게와 비디오시그널 처
리칩의 온도 상승 등의 단점이 있을 수 있다. 두
번째로 헤드셋에는 디스플레이 장치만 위치하
고 별도의 컨트롤러를 이용할 경우에는 컨트롤
러와 헤드셋의 신호, 전압연결 케이블이 라인수

안경처럼 눈에 써 작은 화면으로도 큰 화면처럼 보이도록 설계한 HMD(Head Mounted
Display).
국내에선 통 시장이 형성되지 않고 있지만 이웃나라 일본만 해도 종종 새로운 HMD가
등장하고 있다. 이번에 소개할 제
품은 일본산은 아니지만 안경이나 렌즈 등 광학기기 제조로 유명한 칼 자이스의 모델
이라 더 관심이 간다시네마이저(Cinemizer)
라는 이름의 이 제품은 OLED로 만든 화면과 이어폰으로 시각과 청각적인 효과를 높인
제품으로
IFA 2010을 통해 소개됐다고 한다. 이 제품은 바로 눈앞에 있는 디스플레이를 통해 착
용자가 보기에는 2m 멀리에
떨어진 1,143mm(45인치) 화면처럼 영상을 보이게 하는데 아직 640×480 수준의 낮은
해상도라는 게 아쉽다.
그나마 맘에 드는 건 칼 자이스의 브랜드와 미래지향적인 디자인을 추구한 날렵하고
매력적인 스타일. 그러나 400유로(63만원 정도)라는 가격은 여전히 가까이하기 힘든
벽이 되고 있다.
과연 언제쯤이면 이런 HMD가 대중화, 아니 대중화까진 아니더라도 우리 생활 속에서
어렵잖게 만나볼 수 있는 제품군이 될 수 있을지. 일단은 좀 더 지켜보기로 하자.
9. HMD의 문제점
일반소비자가 접할 기회가 많지않다.
가격이 너무 비싸다.
제품의 무게가 너무 무겁다.
편리성이 부족하다.
10. HMD에 대한 나의 생각
HMD는 기계하나로 대형영상을 즐길 수 있는
것이다.
이렇게 유용한 것이지만 현실은 많은 사람들에
게 알려져 있지도 않다.
나 또한 이 과제를 하면서 HMD에 대해서 알게
되었다.
이처럼 HMD가 많이 알려지지 않는 이유는 비
용과 실용적인 면에서 부족 하기 때문일 것이다.
메스컴과 영화 등을 통해서 HMD를 많이 알리
고 보편화 시켜 가격도 내리고 제품자체도 실용
