The document summarizes Operation Granit, a German plan during World War 2 to capture the Belgian fort of Eben Emael using airborne forces. It describes the fort's history and defenses, built after World War 1 to protect Belgium. It then details Germany's plan in 1940, called Case Yellow, to use gliders and explosives delivered by the Koch Storm Detachment to surprise the fort's garrison. On May 10th 1940, the detachment landed at Eben Emael and used hollow charges to disable its gun cupolas, allowing Germany to capture the fort within a day and open a route for their invasion of France and the Low Countries.
