Spiritus Sanctus: How the Holy Spirit Renewsdoxologie
On the first Sunday of 2015, it's appropriate to discuss a topic for the New Year: renewal. How do we acquire good habits? How do we drop bad ones? This & more as we discuss the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
Protecting Your Critical Customer Relationships and Trade SecretsAlexNemiroff
Are non-compete agreements really enforceable in our State? What are some special considerations in the financial and medical industries? Is injunctive relief available to protect our customer relationships and trade secrets? Can we terminate an employee and still enforce a non-compete agreement? Should we include a liquidated damages provision in our restrictive covenant agreements? What damages are available to our company should we prevail?

The relationship between Vietnam and the European Union has gone from strength to strength ever since formal ties were first established in 1990. Today, the EU is the fifth-largest foreign investor in Vietnam. European firms had invested a cumulative total of almost US$24 billion in Vietnam by the end of 2018, spread over more than two thousand projects. Indeed, European investors are present in all sectors and industries and in provinces across the length and breadth of Vietnam. The top-three sectors for European investment are manufacturing (US$8.4 billion), the production and transmission of electricity (US$5 billion) and real estate (US$2.6 billion).
In 2018, trade in goods between Vietnam and the EU was worth over €49 billion. The main exports from the EU to Vietnam – amounting to around €11 billion – include high-tech products such as electrical machinery and equipment, pharmaceuticals, aircraft and vehicles. Meanwhile, Vietnam’s largest exports to the EU – worth around €38 billion – include goods such as footwear, textiles and clothing, rice, seafood, coffee and furniture.
Reflecting on the economic impacts, according to the Report “Deepening international integration and implementing the EVFTA” prepared by the World Bank in May 2020, the European Union (EU) is one of Vietnam’s most important and stable trading partners. Meanwhile, the EVFTA is the largest new-generation free trade agreement in the country’s history in terms of direct benefits for Vietnam. The full implementation of the agreement would help Vietnam to increase its GDP by 2.4 per cent and it could reach a further by 6.8 per cent by 2030. The FTA also motivates Vietnam’s domestic reforms, modernising institutions and helping Vietnam to grow faster, become more competitive and innovative.

Recognising healthy ecosystems as the basis for sustainable water resources and stable food security can help produce more food from each unit of agricultural land, improve resilience to climate change and provide economic benefits for poor communities, according to a new report from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), in partnership with 19 other organizations.

In Madagascar, donors have traditionally counted for almost half of the Government’s budget and have been, by far, the main source of funding in social sectors. Since the beginning of the crisis, official aid toward education, health and social protection surged, reaching almost US$260 million in 2010 against US$180 million in 2008. This increase failed nonetheless to improve significantly social indicators. Does it mean that (i) aid works but the country did not get enough of it to counterbalance the effects of the current political and economic crisis, or (ii) aid effectiveness has been limited and there is a need to improve its quality rather than its quantity?

The intent of U.S. UW efforts is to exploit a hostile power’s political, military, economic, and psychological vulnerabilities by developing and sustaining resistance forces to accomplish U.S. strategic objectives. Historically, the military concept for the employment of UW was primarily in support of resistance movements during general-war scenarios. While this concept remains valid, the operational environment since the end of World War II has increasingly required U.S. forces to conduct UW in scenarios short of general war (limited war).
