The document discusses the history and theological basis of speaking in tongues within Pentecostal Christianity. It provides biblical evidence from both the Old and New Testaments to support the practice. Key figures that promoted speaking in tongues like Charles Parham and William Seymour are mentioned. The document also discusses the origins of the Assemblies of God and the Church of God in Christ denominations from the early Pentecostal movement.

Bible Truths - Prophecy of Daniel and Revelation - A Jar of Oil #23 - This presentation is about the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit. The story of the widow in Elisha's time who owed a large debt and was saved because of a miracle shows us the power of the Holy Spirit. The oil in the Bible represents the Holy Spirit.

What is the Gospel of Jesus Christ? Why is proclaiming the Gospel of Christ necessary? What are some reactions you have had when you shared the Gospel? Why do many people react negatively to the Gospel of Christ? (John 6:60-66; Mark 6:1-6)
_Ministry_Encounter #5_The Baptism of the Holy SpiritRohan Dredge
In this fifth stage in the ENCOUNTER series I teach on the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. One of the most empowering experiences a Christian can have in their spiritual journey.
As I prepared and taught this, I was super mindful of the spectrum of beliefs and experiences around this topic. Even in my home Church we have a series of experiences that are quite different to one another.
That said, I’m convinced in the Baptism of the Holy Spirit as an empowering experience available to believers so they are more useful and effective for Kingdom orientated ministry.
I also cover off on the topic of “speaking in other tongues” and how it is available to believers as an empowering and edifying discipline for our discipleship.
You’re invited to head into a deeper, more dynamic and empowered relationship with Jesus. The key is the personal spiritual revolution that comes from the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Discipleship's Design part 3 of Marching OrdersEd Sullivan
When Christ ascended to heaven he left a series of commands for us. This is making disciples. A task often delegated to a certain few but that is not at all what it's supposed to be.
Discipleship's Design part 3 of Marching OrdersEd Sullivan
The final sermon on the last words of Christ to the Church before the ascension. We need to devote ourselves to Holy Spirit empowered discipleship way of life not just on Sundays.
2. Fundamentalist
The inspiration of the Bible by the Holy Spirit and
the inerrancy of Scripture as a result of this.
The virgin birth of Christ.
The belief that Christ's death was the atonement for
sin.
The bodily resurrection of Christ.
The historical reality of Christ's miracles.
3. Evangelical
Evangelicalism is a Protestant Christian movement
which began in Great Britain in the 1730s. Its key
commitments are:
The need for personal conversion (or being "born again")
Actively expressing and sharing the gospel
A high regard for biblical authority especially biblical
inerrancy
An emphasis on teachings that proclaim
the death and resurrection of Jesus.
4. Holiness Movement
The holiness movement seeks to promote a
Christianity that is personal, practical, life-changing,
and thoroughly revivalistic. The key beliefs of the
holiness movement are
(1) regeneration by grace through faith, with the
assurance of salvation by the witness of the Holy
Spirit; (2) entire sanctification as a second definite
work of grace, received by faith, through grace, and
accomplished by the baptism and power of the Holy
Spirit, by which one is enabled to live a holy life.

9. Biblical Evidence - OT
Isaiah 28:9-13 (King James Version)
9 Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make
to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk,
and drawn from the breasts.
10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept;
line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:
11 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he
speak to this people.
12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause
the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not
hear.
13 But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon
precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line;
here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall
backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.
10. Biblical Evidence - OT
Joel 2:28 (King James Version)
28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour
out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your
daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream
dreams, your young men shall see visions:
11. Biblical Evidence - NT
1 Corinthians 12:8 For one person is given through
the Spirit the message of wisdom, and another the
message of knowledge according to the same
Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, and to
another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10to another
performance of miracles, to another prophecy, and to
another discernment of spirits, to another different kinds
of tongues, and to another the interpretation of
tongues. 11 It is one and the same Spirit, distributing
as he decides to each person, who produces all these
things.
12. Biblical Evidence - NT
Mark 16:17 In my name they shall cast out devils;
they shall speak with new tongues”
13. Biblical Evidence - NT
When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together
in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a
violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole
house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed
to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on
each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit
and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit
enabled them. (Acts 2:1-4)
14. Biblical Evidence - NT
Acts 10:44-47 (King James Version)
44
While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on
all them which heard the word.
45
And they of the circumcision which believed were
astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the
Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
46
For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God.
Then answered Peter,
47
Can any man forbid water, that these should not be
baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
15. Biblical Evidence - NT
Acts 19
1
And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed
through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,
2
He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And
they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy
Ghost.
3
And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto
John's baptism.
4
Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying
unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him,
that is, on Christ Jesus.
5
When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6
And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them;
and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
7
And all the men were about twelve.
16. Biblical Evidence - NT
Acts 8:11-21 (King James Version)
11
And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had
bewitched them with sorceries.
12
But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning
the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were
baptized, both men and women.
13
Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized,
he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles
and signs which were done.
14
Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that
Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter
and John:
15
Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they
might receive the Holy Ghost:
17. Biblical Evidence - NT
16
(For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were
baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)
17
Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy
Ghost.
18
And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands
the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,
19
Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands,
he may receive the Holy Ghost.
20
But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou
hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.
21
Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right
in the sight of God.
18. Biblical Evidence - NT
1 Corinthians 14
1
Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye
may prophesy.
2
For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto
men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the
spirit he speaketh mysteries.
3
But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and
exhortation, and comfort.
4
He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he
that prophesieth edifieth the church.
5
I would that ye all spake with tongues but rather that ye
prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that
speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may
receive edifying.
19. Biblical Evidence - NT
6
Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I
profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by
knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine?
7
And even things without life giving sound, whether pipe or harp, except
they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped
or harped?
8
For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to
the battle?
9
So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be
understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak
into the air.
10
There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none
of them is without signification.
20. Biblical Evidence - NT
11
Therefore if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be unto him that
speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh shall be a barbarian unto me.
12
Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may
excel to the edifying of the church.
13
Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may
interpret.
14
For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is
unfruitful.
15
What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding
also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.
16
Else when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room
of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understandeth not
what thou sayest?
17
For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified.
18
I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:
21. Biblical Evidence - NT
19
Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my
understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than
ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.
20
Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice
be ye children, but in understanding be men.
21
In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips
will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear
me, saith the Lord.
22
Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but
to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them
that believe not, but for them which believe.
23
If therefore the whole church be come together into one place,
and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are
unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?
22. Biblical Evidence - NT
24
But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or
one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all:
25
And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so
falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is
in you of a truth.
26
How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of
you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation,
hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.
27
If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the
most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.
28
But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church;
and let him speak to himself, and to God.
29
Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.
23. Biblical Evidence - NT
30
If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the
first hold his peace.
31
For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and
all may be comforted.
32
And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.
33
For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in
all churches of the saints.
34
Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not
permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be
under obedience as also saith the law.
35
And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands
at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.
24. Biblical Evidence - NT
36
What? came the word of God out from you? or came it
unto you only?
37
If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual,
let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you
are the commandments of the Lord.
38
But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.
39
Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not
to speak with tongues.
40
Let all things be done decently and in order.
Editor's Notes
In 1905 Charles F Parham taught a Bible study course in Houston. He believed that the church was lacking in a key area of power and authority once held by the church.
