The document discusses building a 40-ton cement silo in a narrow space. Soil tests were performed and bore piles 18 meters deep were used for the foundation. Finite element analysis of the steel structure showed a safety factor of 4-6 with maximum displacement of 1.6 mm. Four load cells with 20-ton capacity each were used to measure the 45 tons of cement. The silo was successfully erected on site using hoists and construction methods shown in the appendices.
This document discusses storage bins, silos, and hoppers used to store bulk solids. It covers various design considerations for hopper discharge including throttling material flow. Mass flow and core flow hoppers are described. Recommended proportions for hopper dimensions to store a given volume are provided. Caking issues and common causes of silo failure are also summarized. Different types of mechanical feeders used to regulate discharge from hoppers are introduced, including belt, apron, rotary table, and screw feeders. Pneumatic and vibrational methods for discharging material are briefly outlined.

Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle is a campaign which aims to reduce the production of waste. Industry used plastic bottle and cans to store the beverage. A research was done by University of Georgia, United States and was published by Wall Street Journal stated that Indonesia is the second predicate country which produced and mismanaged plastic waste in the world. This condition shoud be overcome and this research project was intended to develop reverse vending machine (RVM) to sorting waste of beverage containers either plastic bottles or cans as a campaign to reduce the production of waste. This RVM machine uses barcode scanning as the sorting system to determine whether the plastic bottle or can could be recycled or not. In order to check the weight of the beverage container, a load cell sensor is used to check whether the beverage container is empty or not. The machine will receive the container from the conveyor station, check the weight, and finally transfer it to the sorting station. The container will be sorted as cans or plastic bottle by the aid of barcode scanning and compare it to database. Furthermore, the plastic bottle will be sorted as clear or colored plastic bottle. Unrecyclable plastic or can container or any unemptied container will be classified as rejected container and be returned to the user through the outlet passage. The performance testing was done with 12 different types of plastic bottle and can and 10 samples for each type, so there were total 120 items tested and the result showed that the success rate was 94% while the processing time was varying in between 8 to 13 seconds.

Are Your Cement Silo’s
Half Full Or Half Empty?
How It Works In Simple Terms
On Command The Remote Device
Mounted At The Top Of The Silo Is Asked
To Take A Measurement, A Motor Releases
A Strong Stainless Steel Cable From The
Supply Pulley And A Weight Sensor Probe
Descends To The Surface Of The Material.
During The Decent, The Device Measures
The Cable Dispensed. When The Sensor
Probe Touches The Material Surface,
Measurement Information Is Transmitted
And The Motor Then Reverses Retracting
The Sensor Probe Back To The Original
Position. It Then Displays The Amount Of
Material In The Silo...

For Example:
80 Psi At 50 CFM Through 150' Of 1/2" Hose Or
Pipe Will Lose More Than 30 Lbs. Of Pressure Due
To Friction Loss. Fittings And Bends In The Line &
Other Obstructions Will Also Reduce The Air
Pressure. A General Rule For Estimating Com-
pressor Output Is 5 CFM To 1 Hp Compressor.
Operation Recommendations
Air Pressure:
Do Not Run Vibrator Over 80 PSI Too Low Air
Pressure & Lack Of Adequate Air Supply (Too Small
Line To Vib.), However, Is One Of The Primary
Causes For Poor Performance Of Air Vibrators.
