The document discusses different methods for learning unfamiliar vocabulary words, including word analysis, context clues, and using superordinates and hyponyms. It explains that word analysis involves breaking words down into their roots and affixes to determine meaning. As an example, it breaks down the word "antidisestablishmentarianism" into its roots. It cautions that word meaning can change over time and context clues are needed for full understanding. The document also provides examples of using context clues and defines superordinates and hyponyms.
The document discusses the problems caused by dumping hazardous chemical wastes. It notes that as populations have grown, dangerous dumping practices that damage the environment have increased. Chemical wastes dumped in landfills leak into soil and water supplies over time, permanently destroying local land and spreading pollution far beyond the original dump site. Proper disposal of hazardous materials is difficult to regulate and even carefully dumped wastes can destroy wide areas.
The document provides information about context clues and how to use context to determine the meaning of unknown words. It defines context as the words surrounding an unfamiliar word that provide hints about its definition. Context clues are facts or ideas that suggest the meaning of an unknown word. Examples are given showing how context in a sentence or paragraph can reveal the definition of a word. Exercises are included for readers to practice using context clues to define nonsense words.
This document is an advertisement for a Martin Scorsese film starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Mark Wahlberg, Martin Sheen, Alec Baldwin, and Vera Farmiga. It was produced by Warner Bros and features a large ensemble cast of well-known actors in a crime drama or thriller directed by Martin Scorsese.

Testing Apache Modules with Python and CtypesMarkus Litz
Writing tests for your Apache module is often a developer's least favourite task, especially if you don't like using the Perl Apache Testing Framework! One of the main reasons for this is that it's difficult to test your C code on-the-fly without a running Apache server. Using ctypes, you can test your modules without a running httpd, just by writing and using simple Python scripts! In this talk we will look at how to compile a specific version of the Apache webserver for testing, and how to use a common Python unit testing framework to write and set up tests. We will also cover examples of writing simple test cases for the Catacomb WebDAV Server module.
Talk from Apachecon US 2009
Catacomb is a WebDAV server module for Apache that uses a relational database to store resource metadata and content. This provides faster search performance compared to other solutions through the use of SQL queries. It supports features like locking, versioning, searching, and access control. The document discusses Catacomb's database schema, search query parsing, history/development, and plans for future improvements.
The document discusses basic sentence patterns in English including subject + verb (intransitive and transitive), subject + linking verb + subject complement, subject + verb + indirect object + direct object, and passive voice patterns. It provides examples of each pattern type.
The document provides information on how to overcome reading difficulties by focusing on vocabulary, grammatical structure, and reading strategies. It discusses analyzing word structures like prefixes, suffixes, and roots to determine word meanings. Common prefixes are listed that convey quantities or negate meanings. Exercises are included to practice identifying prefixes and suffixes.
Context clues are facts or ideas in the text that help suggest the meaning of an unknown word. There are different types of context clues including definition, restatement, examples, comparison/contrast, cause and effect, punctuation, and modifiers. Exercises are provided to help identify context clues and determine the meanings of unknown words.
The document outlines the writing process and prewriting techniques. It begins with the typical sequence of writing steps: prewrite, draft, revise, edit, and publish. Several prewriting techniques are then described such as freewriting, questioning, listing ideas, and outlining. The document also discusses revising content and sentences, editing for grammar and mechanics, nine common patterns of paragraph development, and the benefits of paragraph writing for strengthening various skills. It concludes by noting the connection between writing and thinking according to George Orwell.
There are different techniques for reading text based on one's purpose, the material, and circumstances. Skimming involves identifying key ideas and understanding writing style using headings, introductions, summaries and key sentences. Scanning locates specific information like facts and dates. Rapid reading allows gaining general ideas of a selection under time pressure. Normal reading is without time pressure to gain a general understanding. Analytical reading identifies facts from opinions, draws inferences, and checks accuracy to make judgments. Study reading thoroughly understands substantial ideas to apply to problems or memorize content.
If you use scripting languages to power web, mobile, and/or enterprise applications, this session will show you how to use Oracle Database efficiently. It demonstrates how PHP can take full advantage of new performance, scalability, availability, and security features in Oracle Database 12c and Oracle Linux. Many of these features are available to other C-based scripting languages too, like Ruby, Python and Perl. DBA's will also benefit by seeing how applications can be monitored.
The paragraph discusses various facts about college and university sports team nicknames. While most nicknames are common, such as Bears, Lions, and Tigers, some have more unusual names like Anteaters, Ichabods, Thunderducks, and the strangest of all, Banana Slugs.
The document discusses different types of sentences including simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences. It provides examples of each sentence type and explains the basic elements that make up each type, such as subjects, predicates, and conjunctions. Key characteristics of different sentence structures are outlined.
Critical reading involves analyzing a text to understand not just what is explicitly stated but also how the author conveys their message and any potential biases. There are three types of analysis: restatement is simply restating what a text says, description is stating what a text does, and inference uses clues to deduce what a text implies beyond just the words. Making inferences requires considering what details and implications can reasonably be extrapolated from the information provided, rather than just memorizing the surface level statements. Critical readers must learn to analyze texts to understand both what is being said and meant.

Opdracht module Office en media II- MMA@home
Academiejaar: 2014 – 2015
Opleiding: Office management MMA@home
Module: Office & media II
Onderdeel: Presentatietools (Publ, Visio, PP)
Lector: Patricia Willaert
Versie: 24 februari 2015
1 Inleiding
opgegeven stad/organisatie maakt.
contactmoment of examenmoment in maart of april)
3 Visio
In Visio maak je een aantal schema’s, gedeeltelijk gebaseerd op je eigen werkomgeving
(wie momenteel niet aan het werk is, mag ook gebruik maken van de gegevens van een
vorige werkervaring)
Plaats de volledige benaming van het bedrijf en de adresgegevens in de titelbalk van de 2
schema’s in Visio
tekst in telegramstijl. Geef de presentatie de naam Naam Voornaam Presentatie.pptx
3. 3
Bewaar je presentatie op SlideShare. Deel je presentatie op SlideShare met de lector
patricia.willaert@howest.be
Je maakt ook een digitale hand-out met voorblad (in Word of pdf) van deze presentatie.
Naam Voornaam Hand-out.docx. Steek een uitgeprinte versie van je hand-out in het
Howest-mapje en plaats de digitale versie in de dropbox van de module Office en Media II.
5 Evaluatie
Bij de evaluatie van de opdracht wordt hoofdzakelijk rekening gehouden met volgende
criteria:
originaliteit van het werk en professionele lay-out;
correcte en duidelijke inhoud;
respecteren van de regels van de huisstijl van je thema;
correct toepassen van de vuistregels voor een goede PP (naar vorm en inhoud);
compressie van het beeldmateriaal in de presentatie en de hand-out;
kwaliteit en correct gebruik van het beeldmateriaal;
correcte naamgeving documenten en wijze van indienen;
correct delen van de link naar SlideShare;
respecteren van de deadline.
6 Deadline voor indienen
De datum die hieronder vermeld staat, is de “uiterste” datum van indienen. Niets belet je
echter je documenten en bestanden vroeger in te dienen.
Het niet halen van een deadline wordt verrekend in de evaluatie!
Dinsdag 19 mei 2015:
