WIND ENERGY
Project Procedure
8th Grade - Cohort 8A
Project Lead the Way/Gateway to Technology
Introduction
• Alternative energy refers to ANY non-fossil fuel
energy source.
• Renewable energy refers to energy that can be
replaced when needed
• Exhaustible energy refers to energy that is limited
and cannot be replaced with used.
• Non-Renewable energy refers to energy that
CANNOT be replaced.
• Inexhaustible energy refers to energy that will
never run out.
Wind Energy Project
NEEDS:
• GTT Notebook
• Pencil
• Display board
• Adhesives
• Computer for Internet research
• (2) Book Resources
• Printer paper
Project Procedure
1. Become an expert on Wind Energy using
Internet research and Book resources
2. Prepare a Display Board and include the
following items:
• Charts, graphs, tables on how much wind energy is used in
the US compared to other sources of renewable energy
• Photos, pictures, illustrations
• Description of how wind energy works, its applications,
advantages and disadvantages
• STEM careers involved
3. Answer the CONCLUSION questions in a
separate Word Document (2-3 pages)
CONCLUSION QUESTIONS
• Which alternative energy source(s) are not
affected by the sun? Why?
• Which alternative energy source(s) creates
electricity, but not by turning a turbine?
• Which alternative energy sources are practical
for use in businesses, homes or schools now?
Give examples of how they are used.
CONCLUSION Questions (cont’d)
• With all of these options for renewable
energy, why is there still an energy crisis?
• “Green technology, green construction, green
energy, buying green, working green, green
government” – in your own words, describe
what is meant by these terms.
Objectives & Goals
SWBAT:
• Conduct extensive research on Wind Energy
• Create a display board that clearly demonstrates
what they have learned
• Explain in detail what Wind Energy is, how it is
used, how it compares to other energy sources
and specific careers associated with Wind Energy
DUE DATE: Three (3) weeks from today
