Glas The apple sniffer lady story telling
1. The apple - sniffer lady
In September 2014 I was back
at the traditional APPLE
FESTIVAL in Schlat
(Baden- Württemberg,
Germany). Some old apple
varieties in our region are still
available hier. I think it‘s very
important, that the biological
diversity of the apple remains.

2. e.g. the BERLEPSCH
One of my favorite apple is
the BERLEPSCH.
He was bred 1880 and
named after Hans-Hermann
Freiherr von Berlepsch.
Freshly harvested from the
trees of the lokal
„Streuobstwiesen“ he smells
delicious. He has a very high
vitamin content.
Here I will be happy to be an
„apple sniffer lady“ !

3. Friedrich Schiller and the apple
Our great german poet
Friedrich Schiller was born
in our region. (1759 in Marbach
a.N. , Württemberg)
He also was an apple sniffer.
He became intoxicated with
the odors of rotting apples.
He stored the apples in a
drawer for a longer time.
The odors of these apples
were also inspiration for his
artistic work.

4. „An apple a day keeps the doctor away“
Yes , I would say I live by this famous
motto ! Every day an apple is sparing
many doctor visits. I consider myself
for many years to this rule - with
success ! In the apple - there are the
vital vitamins C,E,K,B1,B2,B6.
Especially the vitamin C strengthens
the immune system and protects the
cells. Minerals, such as potassium,
iron and iodine are important for the
hole metabolism, the nerves and
muscles. The apple is the king of
fruits !
Currently every citizen in Germany
consumes an average of 26 kg of
apples per year. This could be more,
because the possible use in the food
and in medicine are almost
unmanageable !!
