Annual Charleston Bed Race to Benefit Camp Happy Days
The Bed Race to take place at Hampton Park on Sunday, April 27
Charleston, SC –Racing past the Eiffel Tower, soaring over the ocean and dodging the fire spewing
from a dragon’s mouth; the imaginations of children piloting their hospital beds have them battling
far more than cancer. They dream of summertime and living without childhood cancer.
Come see imagination take flight at the 5th
Annual Charleston Bed Race! Set to take place on Sunday,
April 27 at Hampton Park in Downtown Charleston; the annual event races decorated beds on wheels
to raise money for childhood cancer through the non profit organization, Camp Happy Days. The
local charity hosts a summer camp and other life-changing programs throughout the year for
children in South Carolina battling cancer.
The Bed Race will begin with a parade of decorated beds through Hampton Park at noon, with the
Beer Garden opening at 12:30. Beds will start racing at 1pm in a time trial fashion two beds at a time.
At the end of the race, awards will be given in a variety of categories, including Fastest Bed, Slowest
Bed, Best Decorated Bed, Most Outrageously Decorated Bed, Best “What Were You Thinking” Bed,
and the People’s Choice Award. Votes are $1 a vote and members of the Charleston community are
encouraged to cheer and vote for their favorite bed!
To enter the 2014 Charleston Bed Race or for more information, please go to
CharlestonBedRace.com. The fee is $125 per team. Teams consist of 5 participants.
Since 1981, Camp Happy Days has offered support and encouragement to children diagnosed with cancer and their
families by providing cost free year-round programs, special events and access to crisis resources. For more
