Task 1: Deconstruction of three film posters
1. Sian Hopkins
The colour green represents
nature and happiness. The grass
is used to show the happiness
within the two people.
With the two characters lying
on the grass together it could
suggest the genre of romance
and that they are very close.
Both of the characters are
smiling and look very happy it
could show that they are in a
relationship or that they are
very good friends. The
friendship is very mutual .
The title is very bold and the colour blue is very bright and bold to the page.
Blue is a friendly colour this could suggest they are friends rather than lovers.
Their clothes are very modern
which implies they are young
and have are just like everyone
else in line with fashion and
relationships. They are
represented to look as if they
enjoy each others company.
The young girl has tubes on her
face which could foreshadow an
illness in the film and
foreshadows serious situations
to come. This could either be
sad or happy situations.
Her short hair could represent
an illness as most girls
stereotypically would have
long/ mid long length hair. The
characters are a young adults
and symbolise the age for the
film.
Her face is still happy despite
she has tubes on her face this
represents she is a strong young
girl. She represents purity and
happiness within her self.
Grass is usually associated with
a park or children. As they are
laying on the grass this could
suggest they are in a young
environment or the young are
surrounding them.
In the title the #TFIOS is aimed
at young people and social
media so the film receives
ratings and good reviews.
The hash tag is aimed to young
people on social media such as
twitter and Facebook. It also
influences the film and the
characters to show that it is a
young nature.
Their facial expressions
influence the film and its good
and bad points.
They are both wearing leather
jackets which represents they
are both influenced by each
other and symbolise one
another. The jackets also
represent a young nature of
fashion.
The title at the top of the page suggest its American and is a good rated
film.
2. Sian Hopkins
He is wearing a black leather
jacket which represents that
he is very masculine and this is
a typical type of clothing that
would be worn in an action
and adventure film.
Liam Neeson stands out very
much and is bold with the title
Taken 3 it is showing that he is
the hero and the main
character and is willing to go
far to achieve. Liam looks as if
he is confused & searching for
somebody.
The title is highlighted in red
and is very bold to stand out
and reflect the movie. This
could reflect the film that the
film is very bold and has many
parts that stand out.
The black smoke in the air suggests that there is going to be some main
and key events in the movie that could potentially be very explosive and
cause damage.
The helicopters represent that there is going to be an issue with
explosive’s and the gun is very bold to the picture and you automatically
look straight to the gun.
The side shot enables you to
see him reflecting back on the
film and the events that
happened. It’s a plot device
that he is holding the gun to
the side so the audience can
see he is a typical hero.
His dark facial features and
dark hair represents that he
has had to get really involved
in something to achieve his
mission.
His face is very confused and is
looking for somebody.
The tall standing buildings are
very sharp looking. The
buildings look as if they are
being blown up as there is an
explosive in the background.
The gun is the main part of the
poster and represents the
events to come and how far
Liam will go to achieve a
mission. A gun is also a typical
prop for an action and
adventure film. The gun also
represents power and control.
With dark colours surrounding
the poster it stands out
because there are no bright
and cheerful colours however
black is a very dark and
meaningful colour that can
represent very dark inner body
characters.
The atmosphere is very critical
and looks almost like a war
zone and is very explosive
which creates attention the
page and gives us a clue to the
film genre. The background
suggests that it’s a dark place
to be.
3. The movie poster contains standard poster features such as a
picture, credit block, release date and the producer/directors
name.
The main colours are red,
white, black and brown. These
colours are very dull and eerie
which could reflect the film.
The colours represent and
reflect the films genre. These
colours are very bold and dark
which could reflect the genre
of the film which is horror.
The symbols used are the
figure/shadow that is
standing tall behind the young
boy. The figure stands out on
the poster because its
presented as a bright figure
that stands out on the page.
Another symbol used is the
young boy's teddy that he is
holding. The teddy seems to
be destroyed and missing
parts of it which could
foreshadow that the young
boy will be destroyed by
someone or something.
Another form of a symbol is
the young boy although he
represents a child he also at
the same time could
represent evilness and
something destroyed.
From the poster we get a
lot of representation and
there are parts that
foreshadow future events
to come.
The shadow represents
that the young boy may be
followed and haunted by
this ghost. It could also
represent that the ghost is
evil as the colour red is
associated with blood and
evilness. Also from the
poster we see a range of
different colours such as
black and red. Black is
usually associated with
death and sadness which
could reflect how the
young boy is feeling.
The intended audience are
adults/teenagers. From the
cover of the poster we can
see that the target audience
are mainly older and young
adults. The dark and eerie
colours represent and clearly
show the audience who the
target audience are.
The genre conventions in this
poster are the dark and eerie
colours that clearly show this
movie to be a horror. Also the
colours and themes of red,
black and white mainly. The
colour red is usually associated
with blood, the colour black is
also usually associated with
death. The ghost is a typical
genre convention of a horror
movie. The teddy that the
young boy is holding is also
another typical convention as
its broken and destroyed.
4. The bright colours will
attract the target audience
of young children.
The action figures will
automatically catch
people’s eyes. For example
Batman is a well known
character and he stands out
very well and clear on the
page.
The colours are very bold
and stand out on the page.
Bright colours are likely to
catch young children's eyes
and they will want to watch
this. The colour red
suggests danger and chaos.
The colour blue represents
happiness and survival. The
colour orange represents
power and fire. The
explosives going off in the
background show a chaotic
situation.
The construction and
buildings on the page will
defiantly attract the target
audience of young boys as
stereotypically they are
known to like cars and
things to do with
construction. Other things
like the title is held by a
crane is very fascinating to
the audience.
The characters facial
expressions are very
scared/angry and you can
tell that this movie is very
chaotic and there are many
scene’s in which relate to an
action and adventure film.
The typical conventions of
an action and adventure
film are the helicopter and
the explosives in the
background.
The characters are typical
action and adventure
characters because they are
very fierce and you can see
that they are in action and
ready to bring on the
challenge.
The characters are Lego
figures which are also
associated with the film and
will also promote for people
to buy their products.
The slogan gives the audience an idea of what the film is about and things
that may happen in the film.
