TERMINOLOGY
• BUFFER :- The use of landscape elements to reduce or curtail view, sound or dust with plants or earth berms,
wall etc.
• Avenue :- A wide road or pathway lined with trees on either side.
• Contour Interval ;-The difference in elevation or the vertical distance
measured between consecutive contour lines.
• Gradient;-The gradient is a measure of the slope height as related to the length.
• Green Roof ;-A roof surface of a building that is partially or completely covered
with a growing medium and vegetation.
• Green Walls :- A supporting structure completely or partially covered
with vegetation which is grown with soil or growing medium
• Hard Landscape ;- Civil work component of landscape development
such as pavements, walkways, roads, retaining walls, sculptures, street amenities, fountains etc.
SOFT LANDSCAPE ;- Landscape that involves vegetation,water and natural things.
• Heat Island Effect ;- A phenomenon in which air and surface temperature
of an area are higher than nearby areas.
• Microclimate - A local atmospheric zone where the climate
(temperature, humidity, wind, etc) differs from the surrounding areas.
• KerB ;- A concrete or stone or similar hard edging along a pathway, or along a road.
• Xeriscape :-A landscape that requires no irrigation or other maintenance.
Grading plan and design
• Includes service utilities { man holes , water treatment plants etc }
• Is useful to direct stormwater away from the buildings.
• Helps to modify steeps lopes to minimize erosion.
SLOPE CALCULATION
• IN PERCENTAGE = vertical rise *100

• IN PROPORTION = vertical distancerise [1.0m] eg;-1:50 {1m rise in 50m dist}

❖ The grading plan shall be drawn to a scale of not less than 1 in 200 for a site up to one hectare and not less than 1 in 500 for a site up to 10 hectare and not
less than 1 in 1 000 for site more than 10 hectare.
LANDSCAPE DEVELOPMENT
• Open spaces are divided into 3 category ,
1.Public space [ parks and other natural spaces]
2.Semi public space [ community parks]
3.Private space [ private garden].
Planning and design of open spaces should consider
1.Sustainability
2.Accessibility
3.Resilience
4.Easy of maintainance.
TYPES OF LANDSCAPE OPEN SPACES
Hierarchy of open spaces Open spaces may be studied with respect to its relative size
Usage of open spaces should have a certain character based on its usage like public, semipublic or exclusively private spaces.
Regional parks/city parks
Multipurpose open spaces/mela grounds
Theme parks/waterparks
playgrounds/stadium
Landscape elements, such as outdoor furniture, lighting and shading provided horizontal and vertical planes to reduce the ambience
temperature and glare.
A variety of recreational options for different ages and interests should be provided and Spaces should be designed for use by
people of all abilities.
Opportunities for children to explore imaginative play area with natural elements of environment like play shelters, niches, sand
areas, etc.
Hydrology and water flows that attract butterflies, birds, and frogs may be considered and Science play opportunities that stimulate
curiosity about science may be provided
Hard landscape materials and their details may be worked out so that sharp corners, injurious edges and easily breakable materials
are avoided in the public landscape.
Linear parks may be used to provide continuous paths for bicycles and pedestrians and high speed bike lanes may be separated from the pedestrian paths.
Surface treatment of the finishes may be such that it remains anti-skid.
Buildings and roads may be planned so as to generally follow the existing contours.
The height of light fixtures should be decided based on their spacing

The stormwater network
• The urban stormwater network which comprises of sumps, stormwater pipes, stormwater
channels, water quality pond embankments, cut off drains, retarding basins gross
pollutant traps, dams and weirs.
• In natural landscapes such as forests, soil absorbs much of the stormwater. Plants also reduce
stormwater by improving infiltration, intercepting precipitation as it falls, and by taking up water
through their roots.
• In developed environments, such as cities, unmanaged stormwater can create major issues one
related to the volume and timing of runoff (flooding)) and the other related to potential
contaminants the water is carrying
• Stormwater is also an important resource as human population and demand for water grow
Stormwater Management and Filtration Techniques
The surface water flow is increased in urban areas due to predominance of hard surfaces.
Stormwater management techniques assure conservation of water thereby increasing the
ground water recharge. Filters facilitate draining pollutants out from surface water runoff
through straining before discharge into the drainage way. Rain water harvesting and
sullage recycle systems need to be implemented on all new constructions over 1 000 m2
in urban areas.
* Increase in ground water aquifer level due to methods enhancing infiltration.
* Mitigation of the effect of drought.
* Reduction of stormwater runoff into the public drainage system.
* Reduction of flooding of the roads during monsoons.

SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION
This includes the placement of topsoil or other suitable plant material over
disturbed lands to provide suitable soil medium for vegetative growth. Topsoil
laying shall involve replacing fertile topsoil that were stripped and stockpiled during
earlier site development activities; the laid soil shall be stabilized before the next
monsoon by planting grass, shrubs and trees.
Conservation and Reuse of Water for Irrigation
The irrigation system should be designed considering the prevailing wind
direction, slope and proposed grade, type of soil, soil percolation, and the type
of vegetation to be watered.
Spray irrigation to be designed to provide total head to head cover to avoid dry
spots and spray on to paved areas and unplanted surfaces.
Spray irrigation is to be avoided in areas of width less than 3.00

TERMINOLOGY • BUFFER :- The use of landscape elements to reduce or curtail view, sound or dust with plants or earth berms, wall etc. • Avenue :- A wide road or pathway lined with trees on either side. • Contour Interval ;-The difference in elevation or the vertical distance measured between consecutive contour lines. • Gradient;-The gradient is a measure of the slope height as related to the length. • Green Roof ;-A roof surface of a building that is partially or completely covered with a growing medium and vegetation. • Green Walls :- A supporting structure completely or partially covered with vegetation which is grown with soil or growing medium
  • 3. • Hard Landscape ;- Civil work component of landscape development such as pavements, walkways, roads, retaining walls, sculptures, street amenities, fountains etc. SOFT LANDSCAPE ;- Landscape that involves vegetation,water and natural things. • Heat Island Effect ;- A phenomenon in which air and surface temperature of an area are higher than nearby areas. • Microclimate - A local atmospheric zone where the climate (temperature, humidity, wind, etc) differs from the surrounding areas. • KerB ;- A concrete or stone or similar hard edging along a pathway, or along a road. • Xeriscape :-A landscape that requires no irrigation or other maintenance. Grading plan and design • Includes service utilities { man holes , water treatment plants etc } • Is useful to direct stormwater away from the buildings. • Helps to modify steeps lopes to minimize erosion.

SLOPE CALCULATION • IN PERCENTAGE = vertical rise *100 horizontal distance • IN PROPORTION = vertical distancerise [1.0m] eg;-1:50 {1m rise in 50m dist} horizontal ❖ The grading plan shall be drawn to a scale of not less than 1 in 200 for a site up to one hectare and not less than 1 in 500 for a site up to 10 hectare and not less than 1 in 1 000 for site more than 10 hectare. LANDSCAPE DEVELOPMENT • Open spaces are divided into 3 category , 1.Public space [ parks and other natural spaces] 2.Semi public space [ community parks] 3.Private space [ private garden]. Planning and design of open spaces should consider 1.Sustainability 2.Accessibility 3.Resilience 4.Easy of maintainance.

TYPES OF LANDSCAPE OPEN SPACES Hierarchy of open spaces Open spaces may be studied with respect to its relative size Usage of open spaces should have a certain character based on its usage like public, semipublic or exclusively private spaces. Regional parks/city parks Multipurpose open spaces/mela grounds Theme parks/waterparks playgrounds/stadium Landscape elements, such as outdoor furniture, lighting and shading provided horizontal and vertical planes to reduce the ambience temperature and glare. A variety of recreational options for different ages and interests should be provided and Spaces should be designed for use by people of all abilities. Opportunities for children to explore imaginative play area with natural elements of environment like play shelters, niches, sand areas, etc. Hydrology and water flows that attract butterflies, birds, and frogs may be considered and Science play opportunities that stimulate curiosity about science may be provided Hard landscape materials and their details may be worked out so that sharp corners, injurious edges and easily breakable materials are avoided in the public landscape.
  • 6. Linear parks may be used to provide continuous paths for bicycles and pedestrians and high speed bike lanes may be separated from the pedestrian paths. Surface treatment of the finishes may be such that it remains anti-skid. Buildings and roads may be planned so as to generally follow the existing contours. CHARACTERISTICS OF FLOWERING PLANTS Based on the symmetry of the flowers can be described in to following types: 1. Actinomorphic: Flowers can be divided into two halves through any vertical plane. 2. Zygomorphic: Flowers can be divided into two equal halves only along one vertical plane. 3. The stormwater network • The urban stormwater network which comprises of sumps, stormwater pipes, stormwater channels, water quality pond embankments, cut off drains, retarding basins gross pollutant traps, dams and weirs. • In natural landscapes such as forests, soil absorbs much of the stormwater. Plants also reduce stormwater by improving infiltration, intercepting precipitation as it falls, and by taking up water through their roots. • In developed environments, such as cities, unmanaged stormwater can create major issues one related to the volume and timing of runoff (flooding)) and the other related to potential contaminants the water is carrying • Stormwater is also an important resource as human population and demand for water grow
  • 13. Stormwater Management and Filtration Techniques The surface water flow is increased in urban areas due to predominance of hard surfaces. Stormwater management techniques assure conservation of water thereby increasing the ground water recharge. Filters facilitate draining pollutants out from surface water runoff through straining before discharge into the drainage way. Rain water harvesting and sullage recycle systems need to be implemented on all new constructions over 1 000 m2 in urban areas. * Increase in ground water aquifer level due to methods enhancing infiltration. * Mitigation of the effect of drought. * Reduction of stormwater runoff into the public drainage system. * Reduction of flooding of the roads during monsoons.   • 14. SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION This includes the placement of topsoil or other suitable plant material over disturbed lands to provide suitable soil medium for vegetative growth. Topsoil laying shall involve replacing fertile topsoil that were stripped and stockpiled during earlier site development activities; the laid soil shall be stabilized before the next monsoon by planting grass, shrubs and trees. Conservation and Reuse of Water for Irrigation The irrigation system should be designed considering the prevailing wind direction, slope and proposed grade, type of soil, soil percolation, and the type of vegetation to be watered. Spray irrigation to be designed to provide total head to head cover to avoid dry spots and spray on to paved areas and unplanted surfaces. Spray irrigation is to be avoided in areas of width less than 3.00
