3. INTRODUCTION
Teaching competence or teacher competence
refers to the teacher’s ability to perform or to
carryout defined tasks in a particular context at
higher level of excellence. It also refers to the
excellence capability which includes knowledge ,
skill, altitudes and experiences to carryout a
defined task. In general view , teacher
performance is a pattern of thinking , feeling,
acting or even speaking that cause a teacher to
be successfully to his or her job.
4. Meaning of teaching competence
Teacher competence refers to the set of
knowledge, abilities and beliefs, a teacher
possesses and brings to a teaching situation.
Competence also refers to concept and skill
which are flexible and applicable into wide
variety of situation. Thus , teaching competence
includes those abilities and skills which become
a part of teachers repertoire which he uses in
teaching.
5. Components Of Teaching
competencies
we can categorise components of teaching
competencies into five kind
1 Competency in personal
• He / she should always be active.
• They should posses eligibility.
• They should posses attitude towards students
and teaching.
• They should personally posses awareness.
2 Competency in professional
Deep knowledge about teaching of content.
Posses and using appropriate teaching skills.
Adopting new innovative methods and
techniques in class room teaching.
6. 3 competency in social
• They should be competent enough to criticizes
openly.
• Achieving the specific objectives of institution.
• They should posses good leadership qualities.
• Working with co-operativness.
• Creating a set of conducive atmosphere.
4 Competency in planning
While planning and preparing for teaching the
teacher should posses certain competency as
follows
• Construction of objectives.
• Selection of teaching methods.
• Analysis of content.
• Content selection.
• Preparation of teaching materials.
• Preparation of evaluation tools.

Teacher while interacting with student they
should posses following competency

and their contextual use
It enhances the competencies of teacher.
It makes to have mastery over subject matter.
It enhances the effectiveness of teaching.
It enhances the quality of education.
It helps to achieve the specific objectives in
classroom.
Develop the time management competency.
It provides opportunity to have new research in
education.
Develops a good leadership qualities.
It enhances a good interaction between teacher
and pupil.
It motivates to design and organise the
curricular and co-curricular activities.
9. CONCLUSION
Teaching competencies deals with the
professional skills of the teacher which enable
them to perform the task with high excellence.
teacher should use the competencies based on
background, situation and need based. If the
teacher have the mastery over the content
he/she should know how to deliberate teaching
in classroom. The teaching skill and
competency should be used according to need
based.
