2. Pollution occurs when harmful substances or
pollutants are added to the environment.
There are 4 main types of pollution-
1) Air pollution
2) Water pollution
3) Noise pollution

3. Air pollution is defined as the presence of any
harmful substances (solid, liquid, gas) in the
air.
There are many gases are originated in air
pollution eg. Carbon dioxide, oxides of
nitrogen, sulpher dioxide.
4. Issues of air pollution-
a) Acid rain
b) Depletion of ozone layer
c) Global warming
5. Water pollution is defined as adding of
harmful substances into the water and make
it contaminated.
There are few examples of water pollution-
Industrial waste discharge
Sewage waste
Agriculture runoff
6. Soil pollution is caused due to the adding of
harmful substances into the soil.
It decreases fertility and quality of soil.
Material causes soil pollution are- pesticides,
fertilizers, solid wastes.

to high level of sound.
There are various sources of
noise pollution eg.
Loudspeakers, automobiles,
aeroplanes, industrial activities
etc.
Any noise above 80dB causes
noise pollution.
