Evaluation question one
1. 1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
2. Name of newspaper… This is the name of our newspaper, “Rainford Observer”. We chose a bold font so it stood out on the newspaper, following existing conventions. We also chose to colour it red, similar to many local newspapers, as it is a strong colour and grabs the attention of consumers. We used a similar colour and font to the ‘Wigan Reporter’, but challenged the convention of the placing of the town name.
3. Tagline… Following the general form of a local newspaper, we included a slogan for our newspaper, “Rainford’s new quality newspaper”. Wigan Observer:
4. Contents… We included a contents page, which keeps to the codes and conventions, as we felt it was a necessity in a quality paper.
5. Adverts… On the front page, we included a large advert across the bottom of the page. This is similar to many local newspapers, as they are mainly funded by the advertisers.
6. Articles… On the second page, we featured two articles. They descend in order of importance, but follow a similar layout and colour scheme. The articles are surrounded by adverts, very similar to existing local newspapers.
