2. OVERVIEW
• Coronavirus disease(COVID-19) is an infectious disease by newly discovered
coronavirus
• It spreads primarily through droplets of saliva or discharge from nose when an
infected person coughs or sneezes, therefore necessary to perform the
respiratory etiquette(sneezing on flexed elbow).
• The symptoms can be mild to moderate but could be severe in persons with
underlying chronic diseases and those are fever, dry cough and tiredness
• At this time, there is no specific vaccine or treatments for COVID-19. However,
there are many ongoing clinical trials evaluating potential treatments.
• The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is by being well informed
about the virus, the disease and how it spreads

6. PREVENTION – PROTECTING
YOURSELF & OTHERS
1. Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or
wash them with soap and water. WHY? Because it kills viruses that maybe on your
hands.
2. Maintain at least 1metre(3feet) distance between yourself and others because
tiny droplets from sneeze or coughing can be inhaled.
3. Avoid going to crowded places to decrease the probability of close contacts
with someone who has COVID-19.
4. Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth because as our hands touch many
surfaces and can pick up viruses which can infect us.
5. Make sure you and people around you practice & follow good respiratory
hygiene – covering mouth & nose with bent elbow or tissue while
coughing/sneezing and dispose immediately.

7. 6. Stay home & self-isolate even with minor symptoms, until you recover. If needed to
leave the house, wear a mask to avoid infecting others.
7. If you have fever, cough & difficulty breathing, seek medical attention but call by
telephone before and follow directions of local health authority.
8. Keep up to date on the latest information from trusted sources, such as WHO or
your local & national authorities.

THE CONTEXT OF COVID-19
When to use a mask?
• If you are healthy, you only need to
wear a mask if you are taking care of
person with COVID-19.
• Wear if you are coughing/sneezing
• They are effective only when used in
combination with frequent hand-
cleaning
• Also follow proper way of using it &
disposing it.
How to wear a medical
mask?
• Before putting mask clean hands with
alcohol based hand rub/ soap & water
• Cover mouth & nose and make sure
there are no gaps between your face &
mask
• Avoid touching mask while using it
• Replace the mask once it is damp & do
not re-use single use masks
• Remove it from behind & discard
immediately in closed bin & clean hands
