3. Electric Go-Kart
• A maker project to participating schools and a contest
• Goal:
• To allow students in participating schools to collaborate in building and
customizing an electric go-kart for demonstration and for visitors to test-drive
during Maker Faire Hong Kong 2017.
• We are looking for electric go-kart which are functional as well as giving us
surprises
• Participating schools can also contribute to the design of the go-kart race
track to provide a fun experience for those visitors experiencing the electric
go-kart.
10. Overview (1)
• Welcome two categories of teams to participate:
• Junior category
• Open category
• Each team design/customize its own electric go-kart, for demonstration during
MFHK2017, and for supporting visitors to test-drive
• Basic requirements of the electric go-kart
• A one seater
• Dimensions: 1m (w) x 1.5m (l) x 1.2m (h)
• Maximum speed: 15km/hr
• At least three wheels
• Electrically-powered motor, and with an “Engine kill switch” for cutting off power to the motor
• With a brake
• Must have a car body
11. Overview (2)
• Junior category
• For students in primary (P1 to P6) or junior secondary schools (F1 to F3)
• Each team with at most 10 students and one teacher
• Each team can use an existing electric go-kart/vehicle with power and
steering system as a base for modifying/enhancing its functions as well as
appearance
12. Overview (3)
• Open Category
• For students in secondary schools or above, or general public
• Each team with at most 5 members
• Each team should construct its own steering system and chassis. Electric
motor, driving system and battery system can be purchased from outside. No
other restriction on design, as long as it satisfies the basic requirements

• Each participating team will
• Exhibit its electric go-kart
• Participate in two parades (once on each day)
• Participate in a race
• Support visitors to test-drive its go-kart
• Show-and-tell their design process
• Participating teams can contribute to the design of the race track for
use in Maker Faire Hong Kong 2017
14. Certificates and Prizes (1)
• Certificate of Participation
• For each member of each team which successfully exhibited its electric go-
kart, and completed at least one lap in the race track during MFHK2017
• Best Use of Technology
• For the team which demonstrates best application of technology in design
and construction of its electric go-kart
• Certificate for each member of winning team
• A trophy for the winning team
• Junior Category: Cash Prize HKD2000
• Open Category: Cash Prize HKD3000

• Best Car Body Design
• For the team which has the best car body design, including aesthetics, use of materials and
craftsmanship
• Certificate for each member of winning team

• For the team who can best present their design process, from initial ideas to the final work
