1. THE PLANETS
We live on the Earth. The Earth is a planet. It
has got air we can
breathe. 71% of our
planet is water.
The Sun isn’t a planet.
It is a star at the
centre of the solar
system. It formed 5 billion years ago from a cloud
of gas and dust. The sun's diameter is 1,392,000
kilometres.
There are nine planets in the solar system. All
nine planets go around the sun.
DISTANCE FROM THE SUN
Mercury: 57 million km
Venus: 107 million km
Earth: 147 million km
Mars: 228 million km
Jupiter: 777 million km
Saturn: 1,247 million km
Uranus: 2,864 million km
Neptune: 4,489 million km
2. PLANETS FACTS
• Mercury is the nearest planets to the sun.
• Pluto is the furthest planet from the sun..
Pluto is the smallest planet. Some scientists
think Pluto isn’t a planet because it is so small.
• Jupiter is the biggest planet.
• Venus is the hottest planet (There are thick
clouds around Venus).
• Mars is called the red planet. There are
deserts and canyons on Mars. Mars is a very
exacting planet. The
largest volcano in the
solar system is on
Mars. It is bigger
than Mount Everest.
It is 24 kilometres
high and 500
kilometres wide at the base. It is 6,4
kilometres deep and 241 kilometres wide.
Some planets are very big. Jupiter
is the biggest planet.
