Tagline Ideas
1. Ideas for Our Tagline
As a group, we have used our research and planning to find a suitable tagline that relates to
our narrative and to the subgenre we have chosen to portray, which is slasher. We have
used pieces of work such as the focus group and the pitch to ask the target audience what
they think would sound best out of the few that we could provide. These ideas for our tagline
are listed below.
- WHAT HE KILLS IS WHAT HE EATS
- ALL YOU CAN KILL IS ALL YOU CAN EAT
- HE IS WHAT HE EATS
When analysing the focus group together, we saw that the majority of the target audience
wanted to see the bottom one which is “He is what he eats” as the tagline; this is because it
relates to the genre of the film and connects with the narrative that is being portrayed. In the
film, the killer proceeds to eat his victims, therefore ‘he is what he eats’ perfectly conveys the
nature of the film and gives away certain elements of the narrative including the fact that the
antagonist eats human flesh. The target audience also chose this tagline as they said that is
was an appropriate size and length in comparison to the other options. The shorter the
tagline is, the easier it is to read and so can create more suspense and an enigma code for
the audience to explore as the narrative is revealed.
When looking at popular slasher films, it is seen that the taglines are all short but are very
powerful and relate to the narrative of the film. We took inspiration from the very popular
slasher film ‘Halloween’, who have the tagline “The night he came home”. This is very
effective as it relates to the narrative and the audience want to find out who came home and
what they did. ‘He is what he eats’ creates the question of who ‘he’ is and the story behind
why he eats humans.
