Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

There is increasing confidence that cell therapies will soon play a role in the treatment of autoimmune disorders, but the extent of this impact remains to be seen. Early readouts on autologous CAR-Ts in lupus are encouraging, but manufacturing and cost limitations are likely to restrict access to highly refractory patients. Allogeneic CAR-Ts have the potential to broaden access to earlier lines of treatment due to their inherent cost benefits, however they will need to demonstrate comparable or improved efficacy to established modalities.
In addition to infrastructure and capacity constraints, CAR-Ts face a very different risk-benefit dynamic in autoimmune compared to oncology, highlighting the need for tolerable therapies with low adverse event risk. CAR-NK and Treg-based therapies are also being developed in certain autoimmune disorders and may demonstrate favorable safety profiles. Several novel non-cell therapies such as bispecific antibodies, nanobodies, and RNAi drugs, may also offer future alternative competitive solutions with variable value propositions.
Widespread adoption of cell therapies will not only require strong efficacy and safety data, but also adapted pricing and access strategies. At oncology-based price points, CAR-Ts are unlikely to achieve broad market access in autoimmune disorders, with eligible patient populations that are potentially orders of magnitude greater than the number of currently addressable cancer patients. Developers have made strides towards reducing cell therapy COGS while improving manufacturing efficiency, but payors will inevitably restrict access until more sustainable pricing is achieved.
Despite these headwinds, industry leaders and investors remain confident that cell therapies are poised to address significant unmet need in patients suffering from autoimmune disorders. However, the extent of this impact on the treatment landscape remains to be seen, as the industry rapidly approaches an inflection point.

✅What is C++ Programming?
C++ is an enhanced and extended version of C programming language, developed by Bjarne Stroustrup in 1979 as part of his Ph.D. project. Bjarne developed what he called ‘C with Classes’ (later renamed C++) because he felt limited by the existing programming languages that were not ideal for large scale projects. He used C to build what he wanted because C was already a general-purpose language that was efficient and fast in its operations.

Major Factors that Influence Heart Rate
- 2. According to the National Institute of Health, the average resting heart rate is 60-100 beats per minute for those 10 and older. For well-trained, in shape athletes, that number is lower, from 40-60 beats per minute. As the human heart can beat 45 million times a year, there are a number of factors that influence the rate. Dr. Satyabrata Chatterjee of Chatterjee Cardiology explains those contributing factors in the following presentation.
- 3. Contrary to many people’s belief, age does not have a major factor in changing the resting and daily heart rate average. What is affected as you get older is your maximum heart rate. The older you get, the more your maximum heart rate changes. This is due to physiological effects that occur due to aging.
- 4. Your body temperature and heart rate are directly connected. As your body’s temperature changes, so does your heart rate. Dr. Satyabrata Chatterjee explains that this interconnection between the two body functions is thermoregulation of your body not achieving a temperature greater than 98.6°F. The direction of your body temperature determines the direction your heart rate takes (increase-increase/decrease-decrease). Factors such as climate, feelings, and movement can affect your body temperature and heart rate
- 5. While the body is digesting food, you heart rate tends to increase. This increase in heart rate helps aid in the digestion process. As more blood is being directed towards your gastrointestinal tract. The more food your body needs to digest, the faster your heart rate will increase.
- 6. Exercise is a crucial part to staying healthy. Regular activity helps with staying in shape, maintaining a healthy body weight, and improve movement. During exercising, the body demands more oxygen. Through this process, the heart rate can potentially increase 2x- 3x more than the resting rate. However, Dr. Satyabrata Chatterjee notes that the more you exercise, the more you reduce your resting heart rate, ultimately becoming a benefit of a regular exercise regimen.
- 7. There are general differences between the heart rates for people based upon their gender. The biggest influence in gender- based heart rate factors is due to the size difference in men versus women. As women are typically smaller than men, their heart rate beats at a faster pace to help aid their metabolism.
- 8. Dr. Satyabrata Chatterjee has over 25 years of cardiology experience. He earned his medical degree from Delhi University College of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, India. After graduation, he completed his cardiology fellowship at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Dr. Chatterjee is the founder and chief cardiologist at Chatterjee Cardiology in London, Kentucky. He specializes in General Cardiology, Echocardiography, Nuclear Cardiology, and Non-Invasive Cardiology.
