Project Status: Ongoing
Project Items: Solar lamps, jetty,
boat
April 2013
99+1’s Latest Updates!
Overview:
Project Light Up’s goal is to bring
solar-powered light to Pulau
Mendol and Pulau Tiga through
innovative and sustainable
programs. An exchange of
labour to build community jetty
for a solar lamp was
implemented in Pulau Mendol
while a community fund
contribution for a solar lamp was
introduced in Pulau Tiga.
Current needs:
- Boat: We encountered an
obstacle when the boat that
served as a transport between
Pulau Mendol and other islands
broke down. It was evident of a
need for a new boat for Alfa
Omega’s (our Indonesia partner)
ministry. It will also serve as a
transport of materials required
for our jetty building program.
Overview:
Project Living Water is an
initiative sparked from our
observations that access to clean
drinking water is a pressing need
in the villages of Pulau Mendol
and Pulau Tiga.
Currently in the planning stage,
our team is researching about
water safety and education,
water quality and water
treatment. We are also in touch
with organizations running
similar projects, and corporate
CSR programs.
Current needs:
- Contacts: Introduce us to
people in the water industry/
have expertise in clean water
and rural sanitation
- Contributions to water testing
kits: one can cost as much as
$50!
Overview:
We have adopted Project
Learning Tree in response to the
need for a pre-school
schoolhouse on Kg Baru, Pulau
Tiga. Slated to open its doors to
students in June 2013, the
schoolhouse will accommodate
25 students in its first batch. The
school’s syllabus will be based on
Christian values taught by
teachers trained by Alfa Omega.
Current needs:
-School needs: While funding to
obtain land for the school has
been secured ($4,000), the
school is yet to be fully furnished.
If you have a heart for children
and/or education, do consider
extending your support here.
