This document provides guidance on structuring exam answers and includes a mock exam question about how digital distribution affects marketing and consumption in the film industry. It outlines the key points that should be addressed in an answer, including discussing different forms of digital distribution, the impact of film piracy, the importance of social media marketing, and how technology has empowered amateur filmmakers. The document also analyzes sample student answers using a mark scheme, with one answer scoring in the middle level for having some errors and lacking wider examples, and a higher scoring answer fully addressing the question through an excellent case study and discussion of marketing and consumption.

Breakdown: EAA 12, EG 10, T 06
The candidateās response contains some error in context, but
clearly has good knowledge of Disney as a film studio. The
attempt to formulate a debate over marketing of film is evident
and rewarded as such, but there is also a lack of development of a
wider range of examples used, hence the level two mark awarded.
EAA just meets the demands of level three although the focus of
the candidateās response is āoff the markā in the last two pages,
focussing on distribution rather than marketing.
6. Using the mark scheme
ā¢ Read another example answer from the exam board
ā¢ Using the mark scheme, estimate the band of this
answer
ā¢ Is it higher or lower than the previous attempt?
Give reasons for this.
7. What the examiner saidā¦
50/50
Breakdown EAA 20, EG 20, T 10
Full marks have been awarded for this candidateās response. There
is an excellent case study on film which fully addresses the
question. The examples focus on The Avengers ā with a range of
examples utilised. It is a clear and coherent argument which is
meticulous in its use of detail and exemplification of ideas. This is
linked to the marketing of the concept and the permutations
available in the global/national consumption of these films. The
candidate has successfully discussed both marketing and
consumption with accurate knowledge of the film text and
institutional context. Excellent use of terminology.
