1. IS THE OFFICE PRINTER DEAD
The speculations about the paperless office are here for years, but the
office printers are not going anywhere despite the change in the digital
age.
This is the prediction from Gareth Brenchley, the Managing Director at a
services company called Itec in Cape Town, South Africa. He added that
many companies prefer the office printer even with the current
advancements, smart mobile networking, and digital collaborations. The
reason is that they are more reliant in workplaces.
Brenchley said that businesses are more reliant on printing, but the
print environment has definitely grown up. The printer isn't just a
machine anymore. It has become a part of the work environment. The
modern multifunction printers that are on the rise help in producing
new outputswith modern digitization.
Interestingly, printers that came out a decade ago are still printing.
While staying online may be a choice for this generation, a report
showed that 77% of the millennial generation still print documents with
paper, and printers are here to stay in the workplace for about 5-10
years from now.
While there is no doubt about the usage of paper going down, printers
are adapting to become a part of the evolution towards digitized
workplaces. Users do not have to print the document on paper. They can
simply print it to the cloud to access it anytime. The managed print
model gives better insights into printing environments with an even
better ability to reducethe volumeand managecosts.
2. The office printer will die only if the print vendors become partners to
the business. This will identify what business really needs to offer
services that will satisfy the IT sector's requirement.
Epson is already planning a full-on assault on the office printing market
because it targets oneof the profitable businessesin today'sworld.
Though Epson is known for industrial and consumer operations
(scanners included), the brand is taking on its arch-rivals with a number
of new products. This is in the hope of capturing the market share from
Canon and Brother printers.
Security has become important in the print environment. Authentication
can take control of the access to ensure documents reach only the
recipient. Security in printers often includes biometrics and digital
signatures to ensurethe documentsremain protected at all costs.
To conclude, Epson strongly believes that printing can become far more
flexible and provide business benefits considering the energy usage and
efficiency.
