On a telemetry floor when two new nurses, each with different educational background, that is BSN
and ADN started working, it was noted that they both competed with each other in terms of the

According to the Threat Interpretation Model proposed by Todd et al. (2015) recently, the degree of
perceived threat of pain has an impact on whether an individual will demonstrate cognitive bias
towards the stimuli. The association between perceived threat and cognitive bias is mediated by
sustained attention. When threat is in medium level, chronic pain patients have difficult disengaging
from pain–related stimuli while healthy individuals can disengage quickly in order to maintain

Rhetorical Analysis Essay: "Is Google Making Us Stupid?" Nicholas Carr's article on The Atlantic
asks us to question what effect the Internet has on our brains. At the time this article was written, the
Internet was becoming more and more apart of our daily routine as many find themselves using it
for work purposes or simply for leisure. Carr, as a seemingly literary type himself, says, "Computers
are changing the normal thinking process" causing not only him but also many others to struggle
reading. Nicholas Carr wrote this article to bring to attention the webs effect on our mind and how it
has turned us into page skimmers and information decoders who can no longer focus on reading a
piece in its entirety. In "Is Google Making us Stupid?" published on to The Atlantic's issue in
July/August of 2008, Carr, through emotional, and logical appeals, imagery and structure,
successfully crafts his argument on the drifting concentration due to computers and internet use. In
the opening paragraph of his essay Car alludes to a sci–fi movie 2001: Space Odyssey, using this
movie as a metaphor for how the Internet and computers might be shaping our thinking. This is an

wait . . . what were we talking about? Let me Google the answer really quick. Oh, too bad; the
article is so long, I don't want to read it all. I'll just skim the text and hopefully we can piece
something together. This scene can be played out in virtually anyone's life nowadays. But, why?
Why can one's attention span be so short? Is this dangerous? Summary Nicholas Carr, Harvard
alumni and member of Encyclopedia Britannica's editorial board of advisors, questioned the effects
of search engines on our minds in his article to The Atlantic entitled, "Is Google Making Us
Stupid?" claiming that the use of search engines causes a loss of the ability to deeply read and as
therefore causes our minds to lose the ability to process information. He used personal stories to
depict the apparent change in his and others ' minds from having the ability to "read deeply," to
habitually skimming over the text in an effort to hastily extract information. Specifically targeting
the leaders of the Google search engine – whom he said believe that, "Ambiguity is not an opening
for insight but a bug to be fixed," – he related several causal reasons as to why the engines affect our

Speciesism is the belief that humans are inherently superior to all other animals, solely based on

However, though that may seem positive, I have understood that I have also had many flaws and
weaknesses whilst writing my essay, which I had not kept in mind during its writing process. Firstly,
I have a weakness in citing and using references to support the information I had implied within my
work piece. Also, another weakness found is that whilst writing my essay, I tend to go for into my
thinking stream and write up long sentences that in the finalized version of the essay need to be

Skepticism about the external world is one of the most widely discussed arguments in the history of
philosophy. Barry Stroud defines skepticism as the idea that we cannot have knowledge about the
external world (Stroud, page 1). This conclusion is the result of Rene Descartes' Dream Argument
and has been a topic of discussion ever since. No matter how we attack the argument, it seems that
we inevitably arrive at skepticism. In this paper, I will argue that the skeptical conclusion is true and
why it seems to be compelling as a necessary condition for knowledge. I will describe the Dream
Argument and take a look at Moore's promising response to the conclusion as an inconsistent proof.
In the end, Moore's argument for evidence of an external world will fail to disprove the skeptical

argument, I cannot logically do so but will argue against full–blown skepticism and explain how

The Importance Of A More Effective Type Of Teacher...
Danielson's main purpose in writing the article is to explain the need for a more effective type of
teacher evaluation system. She wants to describe the weaknesses of the checklist type of teacher
evaluations that has been used as the norm in the past. Danielson describes a more effective form of
teacher evaluation that will be useful for the administrator and also the teacher. Teacher evaluations
are very critical in decision making for schools because this is a way for them to credibly show the
school board that they have highly effective teachers and at the same time allow those highly
effective teachers an opportunity to grow and learn in the situation. Danielson suggests that in the
past administrators have been more worried about the decision making process and being able to
give evidence that the teachers they have hired are doing an high quality job.
Danielson describes two main reasons why we should evaluate teaching including making sure that
you have high quality teaching and for professional development. She makes the point that these
two reasons are not able to be met by the old method of checklist evaluation. For a teacher
evaluation to be effective and useful they need to be able to meet both types of criteria including
evaluating high level teaching and professional development. Danielson explains that when thinking
about the criteria of evaluating high level teaching that there are important parts of the process that
creates a valid evaluation process.
