This presentation completes our “Guard Your Heart Series.” Hopefully it has made us all aware of how vulnerable it is when not given to God. So, “Open up your heart and let the Son shine in!”
2. The Word falls upon four types of hearts.
Hardened Hearts, Luke 8:5 w/ 8:11-12
The Word is stolen by Satan.
Rocky hearts, Luke 8:6 w/ 8:13
The Word does not take root.
Thorny Hearts, Luke 8:7 w/ 8:14
The Word is choked out by other cares.

The Heart Is Where the Word Is Sown
3. Prepared, Receptive Hearts, Luke
8:8 w/ 8:15
The Word thrives and produces much
spiritual fruit.
Luke 8:8 (NIV2011) 8 Still other seed fell on good soil.
It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was
sown.” When he said this, he called out, “Whoever has ears to
hear, let them hear.”
3
4. Luke 8:15 (NIV2011) 15 But the seed on good soil stands
for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it,
and by persevering produce a crop.
4
5. Romans 10:9-11 (NIV2011) 9 If you
declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart
that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
5
The Heart Is Where We Must Believe for
Salvation
6. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is
with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. 11 As
Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to
shame.”
6
7. This privilege is ours because we have
been adopted into His family.
Galatians 4:6-7 (NIV2011) 6 Because you are his sons,
God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out,
“Abba, Father.” 7 So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since
you are his child, God has made you also an heir.

The Heart Is Where God Dwells Within Us
8. God, the Holy Spirit, lives within us as
the guarantee of our eternal
inheritance.
2 Corinthians 1:21-22 (NIV2011) 21 Now it is
God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He
anointed us, 22 set his seal of ownership on us, and put his
Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to
come.
